    I have to keep coming back t watch these videos in this series because I'm still so new, there is so much info to take in and remember. At 38 years old the impact of skating has really been hard on my knees and heels, this tip really helped with that impact a surprisingly large amount. I mean it makes perfect sense but sometimes those simple things elude us and once some one points it out, its like a light bulb goes off "Ohhh, damnnnn, how did I not realize this on my own" lol.
    I've said it multiple times but thank you so much for these videos. I'm a broke ass atm but I'm strongly considering joining your patreon at your lowest tier, I have never joined any ones patreon before but there's a first time for everything and I have you to thank for most of my "first times" one my skate so I feel I need to pay it back..

    Thanks Norman, this is great. Just reinforces how mental this is. I am definitely going to apply this mindset for my next session. I tend to want to slam it down too. Being less tense is also a goal of mine. Amazing how complex it can be. Peace!!

    This is so true and relates so much to my skateboarding progression. I am still kind of stiff legged and it’s hard to relax more on the board and land tricks in a more fluid motion just waiting to sink until I touch the ground.
    Working on it now more consciously and it really makes a difference to me. Thanks for the nice analysis and advice. I love the beginner mistake series. Please keep it up 🛹🤘

    Some pro skaters seem to kind of stomp down their tricks pretty hard though, Luan for example. Great advice anyway, thank you so much!

    • @NormanWoods
      @NormanWoods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He still lands with his knees bent. But you can’t skate like Luan as a beginner. Gotta learn the basics, and then you’ll be able to change up your style.

      True, thx for your great comment.
      I think the impression of stomping mostly comes from his insane pop, plus he has tons of arm movement which you referred to in another rookie mistake video!

    • @NormanWoods
      @NormanWoods  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes! He’s explosive, and his movements are animated. I had to watch a few of his parts before responding. Tricks happen so quickly. I’ll keep making these videos.

    I actually sprained my ankle by doing this mistake a week ago trying to polish up my kickflip. I brought my foot down too early and ended up rolling it off the side of my board.
    This is a really tough habit to get over. Glad it's being addressed!

      Great series! I had broken my femur w/plateau fracture of the tibia from hyperextending running out of a failed ollie over a gap. it was a really dark location so I couldn’t see how far the ground was from my foot, leg was straight when I landed (SNAP!!).
      AWESOME instruction!

    This tip is so universal and so important I’m just trying to hear more people talk about it.
    You can be the best skater in the world technically, but if you stomp your tricks *too* much, you’re sacrificing style, height, and of course: injury.

    Thanks for this one. This def explains a bunch of ankle sprains. I just feel heavy (so it's more like my legs come down fast rather than me pushing them down), but I need to think about keeping my legs up. I need to visualize floating. Time for some box jumps or something.

    • @NormanWoods
      @NormanWoods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Box jumps will definitely help. Body weight or weighted squats as well. Plus some ab training.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great insights! What's a "cue" you can use to make yourself wait longer before extending the legs? Should you tell yourself to "keep your knees up" or something like this? When I jump straight up on the ground (without a board), this happens automatically for me, so I guess it can become a "natural thing" once you get super comfortable on your board?

    I feel like i have the opposite problem, I thought it"s bad to always land that low. I checked some of my footage from tricks. I always squat down, straight back and jump up, bring my knees up to my chest and always land pretty low. As example, if I ollie up heights which are taller than my knees i noticed how I always land extremly low. My friends land straighter, still low but way straighter than me. Is this bad?

    • @NormanWoods
      @NormanWoods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you’re good. Watch and Andrew Reynolds part, and see how low he lands. It’s the way to go. You must naturally have it. That’s rad. Took me years. I was so stiff in the beginning.

      @@NormanWoods maybe you're right, thanks for that quick response. I guess everyone has his own problems. For me it's actually really hard to get flip tricks consistent maybe it has something to do with how I started, I used to never bend my knees when i did tricks after some months i fixed it, I had to learn my tricks again kinda.
