The idea of just spending a day on a sketchbook, nothing else, sounds SO fun, I immediately imagined my perfect weekend day just like that...! I love the little drawing of the character (you?) lying down at around 13:40 and again at 30:40 haha, and loved the Sailor Moon and Kim Jung-Gi mentions, too. It was really interesting to see your drawings evolve throughout the day.
hahaha TY yeah thats me lmao I love drawing my sillylittleself as filler between drawings - definitely try it! it was such a memorable experience for me I think you’d have so much fun with it🫰
amazing accomplishment! i really love the variety (but with limitation) of materials and references you used. it seemed JUST challenging enough without too much fatigue/burnout. great work and love your line quality, esp with ballpoint pen
thank you!! yeah totally I have a bad habit of like setting out to do things that was wayyy to much work for no reason lol I felt like this set of rules was like a good happy medium between challenge and rest🙏🫶
Found this video, watched the first 2 hour/ rest sessions, and then decided that this is what I'd do with the rest of my day!!! Started at 8pm and finished at 4 am (it's Ramadan and I'm fasting which is why I'm doing this dead in the night ) I was on the last spread of a sketchbook so I managed to finish that, and get about 70% through a digital painting WIP that I had started in like ??? January??? But never worked on it past the sketch. Overall this felt very rewarding but difficult!! I seem to have struggled more 🫣 but that adds up since I also didn't really plan before starting this. Thanks sm for the idea!! I ended up rewarding myself for finishing with watching the rest of this video ✨
aw yay thats awesome!! good on you for challenging yourself thank you sm for watching!🫶🫶🫶
I started drawing way early but realized I really enjoyed it in basically the same way, my best friend in 3rd grade loved anime & “showed’ me how to draw in that style to the best of her 8 year old ability and those times drawing together helped fuel my creativity and love for character drawing today. I expanded beyond it, but it is at the core of my time as an artist.
what a wholesome memory🥹❤️❤️
I'm so stealing this idea, this sounds like it'd make the perfect sunday
i’ve been drawing my entire life and i just now realized i’ve been taking my sketchbook entirely too seriously and i should treat it more as a cute little diary this inspired me to romanticize sketching
😄i love the way you played with the curse words....i kinda felt like relaxed ..no restrictions....i love. you now have a new subscriber.
Congratulations on doing this! Takes a lot of dedication🎉
Very inspiring. I loved all your cute little self portraits 😊
The first major drawing you did looks a lot like the style you see in persona character portraits - really cool!
thank you!🫰🫰
I love this idea!! I’ve been trying to be more intentional about setting time constraints around my paintings to help me loosen up, and I think this could be a really great way to do that and to encourage play. Thank you for sharing this- I’m definitely going to try it out!
This video is honestly inspirational! Spending that much time drawing but also having the breaks. I'm definitely gonna try this and if I enjoy it maybe ill do it semi-regularly! Keep making awesome content !!
I'm not even half into the video and I wanna tell you that this idea is amazing, specially for people that are trying to recover space and time for their art ;; I've been dealing with an art block for years but just acknowledged it for what it is less than a year ago (': It's been an slowly and harsh learning process and i've finally been able to draw some stuff in my sketchbook and it feels so weird and incredible. Gotta give this a try and already separated the day i'll be doing this! ;; The 30 min doing nothing is specially perfect for me so it doesn't feel like a big big challenge knowing i can rest!
Also, the working 8 hrs doing stuff that u really don't wanna do spoke to my soul lol. Thank you so much for the idea and I'll continue listening to the insights on your sketching (': (loving everything).
you’re so sweet thank you!!🥹🫶 wishing u all the luck in easing yourself back into creating, try to be kind to yourself & have patience with your process❤️
This video WAS soooo inspiring to me. I have a lot of fatigue issues so I'm not sure I could start with 8 hours but i might try to do 4-5 soon and work my way up! and the sketches you made in this video were so wonderful, and the video itself really fun to watch!
The intro was so dramatic hahaha I love it 😭 Great challenge !
LOL thank u I love ✨drama✨
I like this idea. I’ll have to try it.
This was an awesome video, made me extremely motivated to draw, thanks!
i absolutely love the way you sketch and draw! my spring break just started so I have time to do something like this finally, ty for the inspiration & motivation! ❤️
❤️❤️❤️ good luck!
i love these types of experimental/challenge videos! you got a new subscriber :D
yay welcome!! glad you liked it👼🙏🫶
thanks for a great vid, i love this idea
i couldn't help but admire your beautiful setup and space. love all your shelves and plants :-)
thank you my plants are my pride and joy🥹🫶
What a fun challenge! I especially loved the fashion segment too!
thank you!! it was a gr8 experience highly recommend🙏🫶
Hi, this is my first time watching your video. I was just looking for something inspirational to accompany my drawing time, and that's when I came across your channel. I was listening to what you were saying about being ashamed of drawing in an anime style, which is exactly how I've been feeling lately. I just finished my BFA final year, and everyone has been telling me that my art style is too inspired by anime. It's not entirely based on it, but the influence is definitely there. I've been feeling stuck and kind of depressed, thinking that four years have passed and now they're saying I should do something else, something more original. It made me feel like my art wasn't 'arting,' if that makes sense. But hearing about your experiences, and knowing that you went through similar things with your teachers, really touched me. It made me feel like it's okay to feel this way about my own art. Thank you for sharing your story.
❤️❤️❤️ don’t listen to them - your art is an extension of you as a person and if you are inspired by anime it wouldn’t be right to try to stop your art from showing that. Like i said in the video anime is so much more than what the mainstream perceives it as, (while I do agree a lot of it is a rinse and repeat cash grab lol like any genre of “art”) so much if it can only be described as “true art” and all past the shame I’ve felt growing up loving anime, I’m now super grateful that that’s what has influenced me and still does to this day. Try to be kind to yourself and listen to what you feel is right, not what other people tell you🙏
Thank you so much for your understanding and encouragement. Your words lifted my spirits and made me feel reassured about embracing my artistic inspirations. I appreciate it 😭
Great Challenge! Love the loose sketching and colors
oh man this is such a good idea I kinda wanna try this too.... Ive been loving your videos, they're all so inspiring!
yay good luck with it!!! thank you for watching🥹🙏🫶
I just finished my final art exam and though the idea of sitting in silence for hours again is giving me flashbacks, it definitely helps. Managing to get an entire piece done is such a great feeling of accomplishment :)
Ahhh!! I love your style. Honestly this sketchbook challenge had motivated me to get back into drawing 😍
🫶🫶🫶 draw draw draw!!
What an interesting and great idea and experience. Love to see a lefty that holds the pen like that btw. ;)
19:21 the cigarette upside down just make me laugh
LOOL oopsie👼
you have inspired me to draw, thank you
This is a great challenge!! I will definitely do it myself this weekend. 😊❤
yaayy good luck!!🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing this experience,
Que bueno que lograste este gran trabajo. Sigue así.
Love it !
Good job 👏👏👏
Love this idea. Will def try to do this challenge soon as well! I think not sleeping during break time would be my worry haha
hahaha I get that - 30 mins really seems like an eternity when you’re bored LOL
im stealing this idea for my casual drawing/studying
well maybe not the 8 hour part but maybe a few hours
i desperately need to spend more time writing so im gonna watch this and follow along! (tho i also have a lot of schoolwork so im probably going to watch in 10 minute bursts)
aw amazing good luck with your writing!!🫶
@@leechuts thanks!
UPDATE 1: i tried this for like an hour because i wasnt busy and i was able to start the characterization for my play (2/6 characters done)
I wanna try this one day
i definitely want to give this idea a go myself! it was refreshing to hear someone verbalize the stigma against anime art and being able to release the shame behind creating/being inspired by anime. i needed to hear that, thank you!
+ what supplies are you using in this video? (specifically your sketchbook & the markers!!)
I’m glad it resonated🫶🫶 still def tryna unpack the shame around it for myself but all with time innit🥲
The sketchbook was a gift from a friend (she got it in hongkong, not sure the brand or anything - the paper is rly nothing special I’m just tryna fill it up lol) and the markers are muji highlighters!! they are soooo great to use for filling in blocks of colour, don’t bleed, and the colours they come in are excellent💎
This is very interesting, thank you.
Like the concept
this is such an interesting concept !! i think i will give this a try and maybe even make a video about it LOL :P your videos have been really inspiring me on my art journey and learning to make art for the sake of art instead of making "content" :33
yay go for it!! I’m so happy you’re enjoying making art, keep keep going!🫶🫶❤️
Your notes when you're writing are so honest I love it - at 13:55 "maybe its a caffeine crash - maybe its maybelline" aha my brain would have the same response and would also have written it in my sketchbook 😅 - well done on doing the challenge, very inspiring to see how you reflected on each session and how your work progressed throughout ☺
LOL why is “maybe its maybelline” so iconic that lives rent free in my brain at all times😮💨 thank you sm!!! glad you enjoyed it🫰🫰🫰
Definitely going to try this, I've been following a lot of content about controlling dopamine. Setting a whole day aside for sketching is a great way to incorporate that!
Also what's the sketchbook you're using? I need one that sits flat and does well with alcohol markers.
it was a really nice experience!! definitely felt good/clear afterwards and am trying to maintain a level of non-distraction now in the days after I did it🤞& im sosorry I don’t actually know what sketchbook this is🥲 it was a gift from a friend who got it in hongkong - I really recommend moleskin sketchbooks though, they’re def pricey but honestly drawing in a moleskin and then going back to a non-moleskin sketchbook, the paper is just hits different😮💨
every page looks amazing! well done for completing the challenge 👏👏
thank u thank uuuu🙏🙏❤️🫶
now im motivated to do this aswell omg
hell ya go for it💪💪💪
Wow....i have to do that! 😍😍😍
Lovely
This is a really good idea! I might want to try it and maybe do a video, too (if that's ok with you?). Awesome work by the way! ❤
yes ofcourse!!! good luck widdit!🫶🫶🫶
@@leechuts thank you! 🙌
Great video! What was the pencil and lead type used n Hour Two? I have trouble finding mechanical pencils and the right lead that seems to flow dark like yours does.
thank you! the pencil is a pentel graphgear 500 0.7 (very solid and weighty which i love) and the lead is 0.7 Pentel hi-polymer super B - i used to draw in like 0.5 or 0.3 H lead bc I was always afraid of smudging, but switching to a thicker, softer lead has made drawing so much more satisfying (and honestly if you’re righthanded or just careful with your movements the smudging is minimal) - hope this helps!!!
@@leechuts Thank you for taking the time to respond! I'll try those leads. I find the thinner lines I'm used to are constraining. Like I'm aiming for perfect in the sketch phase. The looser I draw, the better I can make the end results! When I'm really in a rut, I'll just break out some crayons and experiment without expectations. Thank you again.
LOL omg. I love this XD
EHEH ty it was fun to edit😌🫶
I live in Japan, and for some reason it never occurred to me to look for art books at book off. My husband and I got there and get used dvds to watch but I've just written off all the books because I'm not a native speaker. I'm going to go back with new purpose next time!
yes totally!! looove book off - books are better for their pictures anyways💅
@@leechuts Success! I was able to find 3 books at my local store! There's a bigger book off a few stops away that I want to try next. Thank you for the suggestion
Awesome vid.
& Subbed!
OneNote to share:
Ahmed Aldoori mentioned in a podcast with Jason Brubaker that his first name is just pronounced AH-med. No need for the affectation @ the end of the syllable.
Cheers, friend 😃
not me watching this with my ipad in my lap waiting for me to draw
ahaha u can do it!!!🌱
This sounds like a fun challenge! But I'd probably have to start off with 4 hours 😅
I love this! What is the black thing you’re wearing on your left hand? I’m also a leftie 😊
its a smudge guard! if you google like “smudge guard glove” or “tablet two finger glove” you should be able to find lots of different ones
@@leechuts thank you! :)
Beautiful voice.
Honestly, if people disparaged the anime/manga art styles, it had to come from a place of jealousy or even misunderstanding of the weight such a thing carries in japan. If they only knew the struggle these japanese artists go through amiright?
period☝️
tho i’m not a fan of the anime/ manga style, i respect japanese artists a lot, drawing books and books of comics with a due date is difficult
At least I'm early.
What is that black thing you are wearing? @7:27
its a smudge guard! or a tablet two finger glove - if you search on google theres lots of different ones, it’s to prevent smudging graphite on paper or drag against your skin against a tablet screen
@@leechuts Thanks!
What pencil is this???
Pentel Graphgear 500 0.7 with Pentel B lead!
heard you talk about how you like drawing women in dinamic and fun poses an you NEED to look for bailarinas flamencas pics for reference!! you know, the typical spanish olé dancers, so so passionate and fun poses. you also get great unique hand references at once haha
WOW love this amazing thank you for sharing!! there is so much goodness in all kinds of like dance/martial arts/sports photography - I will definitely be fitting this in my reference rotation!💃💃💃
Are you on rent or its your own place
Interesting video, but let down by the unnecessary swearing
so good!! i've been wanting to try a challenge like this - love how you make it approachable and acknowledge the difficulty ❤ vv inspiring
🫶🫶 go for it!! it was super insightful I def wanna do smth like this again in the future
Great work! You inspired me with that idea and tomorrow I will do something similar, I hope I will get through it.🫣 btw I love the drawings from your last hour, and the Art book you used for it so beautiful I really want that book too. 😍
