You did a great job on creating the story and acting on it. You did a great job portraying a pirate princess who appears to be sassy and makes plenty of snarky comments, but is not a bad person and wants to save peoples' lives from the terrible situation that the Protagonist's father has created. At the part when the monsters were attacking, the situation was getting really dire and Kiyoko was getting worried they might not make it, and so it was a such an awesome moment when the Protagonist instinctively stepped in and used his trigger to defeat those monsters. The Protagonist knows he could of easily escaped in the midst of the chaos, but decided to stay behind and help Kiyoko and her crew despite being a hostage. I was really impressed with his excellent display of character and virtue. It's really cool how he keeps those powerful abilities hidden, and surprises everyone when he reveals them. And it was really interesting how his father pretty much betrayed him and lied to him throughout his entire life. Makes me wonder what does the Protagonist thinks and feels now that he's been lied and abandoned by his father. You do a really great job making your stories suspenseful and excited about the plot.

His eyes wander around the wooden deck, carefully avoiding to look at the pirate-princess. „You better not get your hopes up too high…“, he mutters under his breath, barely loud enough to hear. Instantly captains Kiyoko‘s mood changes. „You don‘t wanna help us out, you spoiled brat?!“, she barks harshly, „You are on my ship now! It‘s not like you have a choice!“ „It‘s not that!“, the boy shouts nervously, quickly tuning down his volume, „… but i know the reason why my father won‘t bother to get me out here… “ The pirate-princess gives him a piercing stare and orders impatient: „What is it then? Spit it out! Or i‘ll have my men tie you to the mast till you tell us!“ „I-well, um… I- i- my…“, the admirals son stammers wide eyed, tacken aback by the sudden threat. His mind is racing in the search for words, until he just blurts out: „My trigger is broken! I-, i can‘t use it like any other vernovian !“ „Broken?!“, asks captain Kiyoko bewildered, not really trusting the words of the boy: „Explain.“ The eyes of the captain and everybody on deck rest upon the admirals son. He swallows, before he starts with his explanation: „Firstly, my trigger is NOT the same as my fathers. It‘s not a barrier i can put up, but rather a wave or a pulse i send out that wipes out every wretch in close proximity. But i can‘t send out pulse after pulse after pulse, i just can‘t…“ „Why?“, Kiyoko inquires persistent, but still doubtfull. The boy sighs, then he continues: „That‘s what is broken with my trigger. I- i just can‘t! It hurts, it steals my energy!… Using my OWN trigger causes ME a lot of pain!“ After this sentence the admiral‘s son pauses, awaiting the reaction of the pirates. The captain scratches her head for a moment, before declaring: „I think you‘re spinnin‘ a little sailor‘s yarn here, so you don‘t have to help us! I never-“ „I KNOW!“, interrups the son of the admiral rather frustrated, „You never met a vernovian who can‘t use his trigger however he pleases!“ And adds in a sad tone:„That‘s what everybody at home tells me…“ „Alright, so what happens if you try to use your trigger „to much“?“, asks Kiyoko in a mocking tone, „ let‘s entertain that thought for a bit. How often can you use it?“ „Depends“, answers the boy a bit annoyed, since the pirate captain doesn‘t seem to take him seriously, „One time is no big deal. But already using it twice in quick succession, and i will hardly be able to stand on my own feet! It‘s awful!“ „What if you try to use it quickly for more than two times in a row?“, interjects one of the crew. The admiral‘s son lowers his head, whispering: „Three times and i‘m in for a really bad time…“ After that he asks the pirate-princess: „Do you want to know any more? Or have you heard enough? It‘s not like i wanna talk about this problem of mine with a bunch of strangers…“ Captain Kiyoko ponders for a bit, before saying: „You seem genuine, but i don‘t know about the things you are telling me here. Stay there for a bit, i gotta talk to my crew for a moment.“ The captain and her crewmen gather out of earshot of the admirals son. One of the guys approaches Kiyoko with a wicked smile: „If we really want to know if the boy is telling us the truth, we could probably force the boy to use his trigger. But what if he does it on his own accord?“ While holding up a really odd looking whistle. Upon seeing the whistle the captain‘s face turns sour: „If that thing works, it‘s like inviting disaster. Do you really want to take that risk?“ „We danced with death before“, the crewman answer in unison, „even if that boy really can‘t help us out, we‘ll manage.“ So Kiyoko gives them a stern nod: „If you really want to test him, do it. But if that thing works, we maybe are biting off more we can chew.“ The pirate takes a deep breath and blows into the whistle with all his might. Out comes the most gut churning sound you could possible imagine, everybody is startled by it. As the whistle goes quiet again, the captain orders: „No going back now! Everybody on battle stations!“ And hurries back to their little prisoner. „What was that noise?“, asks the admiral‘s son terrified, but before anyone can answer big waves starting to rock the ship from bow to stern. „HERE THEY COME!“, yells Kiyoko to her crew, as two giant monsters emerge from the depths of the ocean. Drawn to the wooden ship infront of them, barreling through raging seas. The bowchasers open fire, but the smaller cannons aren‘t really doing much against the murderous beasts. The wretches are closing in fast, but all of a sudden the monsters vanish. Like it happened just a few minutes ago. Kiyoko turns laughing toward the admiral‘s son: „You did it again! Was that so hard?“ But the smile quickly fades from her face, making way for a worried expression: „Are you okay? You look totally pale!“ The boy just stares back at her, breathing heavily with sweat dripping from his forehead. His hands are clasping the guardrail of the wooden stairs leading to the ships wheel. He seems really unsteady on his feet, his legs visibly shivering. Like he said, he can barely avoid falling over. Then everything seem to happen all at once. Another ear piercing scream echoes across the ocean. Another. And another. A second wave of the monsters appears. A flying wretch descends out of the clouds, while at least three more monsters ascend from the ocean around the ship, closing in fast. The wretches are bigger than any the pirate crew has ever seen before, panic is getting a hold of the men. Cannons roar on both broadsides, they fire as fast as their crews can work can them. Bright green blood stains the water. The situation quickly turns, the ship getting tossed about by the waves the movement of the giant wretches creates. One of the beast attacks the men on deck with its uncountable number of tentacles, and before she knows it, captain Kiyoko is grabbed too and dragged over the deck. She desperatly grabs onto the handle of a hatch, but she quickly feels her fingers slipping. Just before she looses grip, she slumps down onto the deck, the tentacle that had a hold on her dissolved into thin air. And suddenly the sea becomes calm again, no sign of any trouble in sight. Kiyoko‘s head snaps in the direction where the admirals son last stood. He‘s down on his knees, one hand pressed against his chest, the other arm propped against the deck to not fall over completely. He is gasping for air, but for every breath he get‘s in, he coughs up a load of blood. While everybody tries to wrap their head around what just happened, the pirate princess makes her way over to him as fast as possible. A shock hits her, as she tries to help the boy to his feet. His whole body is shaking voilently, and he is not only coughing up blood, but bleeding from his nose and his now bloodshot eyes too. „Can‘t…“ „…breathe…“, the words of the admiral‘s son are barely understandable. He forces out a „please… don‘t“, then he collapses unconcious into the arms of the captain. When he awakes again, he finds himself tucked into a bed. His head still throbbing as slowly looks around. In an armchair next to bed sits captain Kiyoko, a slight smile forming on her lips. „Welcome to my cabin, boy“, she says in a softly manner, „Glad you are back with us.“ She chuckles: „You have the most comfortable bed on the ship for yourself for now. But don‘t flatter yourself. I‘d give up my place to sleep for any of my crewmen if they would get an injury like yours.“ It doesn‘t take long before captain kiyoko notices a confused expression on the face of the admirals son. So she asks: „What‘s bothering you?“ The admiral‘s son answers hesitantly: „You… you didn‘t throw me overboard?“ „WHAT?!“, captain Kiyoko is tacken aback by the question, „Why should we do THAT?!“ „Well“, the boy grits his teeth, „my father said: ‚a man who can‘t hold himself on combat is dead weight on a ship. Worth less than the balast stones, cause they don‘t need rations to keep the ship on a even keel‘. He sure as hell would have thrown me in the sea, if i colapsed after using my trigger...“ Have a nice day to everyone who read all of this ;)

That is only *part* of my trigger, and i didn't even use a quarter of my full strength. Kiyoko: 😕 ? Me: 😒 I can only produce a temporary barrier. However, at higher levels? The barrier acts almost like a shock wave, traveling over a hundred miles and destroying any Wretch in its path. Kiyoko: 🤔 Me: 😞 But using full strength requires so much concentration, so much focus, and so much energy, that doing so could kill me... Kiyoko: 😠 [Selfish bastard... Just like his father.] Me: 😒 If i could find where they live, i could destroy them all...
If I am correct, she wants to help other nations and wants our nation to get involved in monster battles despite our nation being perfectly safe. I am feeling a bit mixed. I can see both points of view. On one hand, the pirate princess brings up a good point that our nation has largely abandoned the others around us. Nation's armies are being battered and helpless refugees are struggling to survive. Refusing to at least let other nations transport supplies through the listener's country to fight in the monster war is a bit cold and unnecessary. That being said, there is some rational logic behind the father's actions. The monsters are no threat to our nation so why should we put our men on the line for other nations? Depending on the financial situation, taking in refugees may not be possible. The refugees may attract the monster to attack the listener's nation. Most importantly, the relationship between the nations is not established. The listener's country may have a good reason for refusing the transportation of men and weapons through the nation.
