She is now being invited to a bipartisan dinner meeting at the Capitol (Washington) to discuss paid leave. So, yeah, she is doing her best to make a difference in some people's lives. The hate and the name calling? Well, it seemed that she is not bothered by it. In actuality, the haters are more bothered because they have so much hatred in their hearts that it is eating them alive like cancer. So, yeah, people who continue to hate will continue to be the losers in life.
People have a choice how to make their life productive and worthwhile.

I am honestly confused with this "initiative". What jobless women(or men) need are jobs, simple as that. If Meghan asked 40 of her influential friends to give 40 women(or men) jobs in their businesses, corporations, etc., that would be a much more concrete and tangible help to someone who badly needs an income. "Mentoring"-what does that even entail? Like, how would Melissa, for example mentor an out of job receptionist or dental assistant or whatever to get back to the workforce? Is it like giving someone a pep talk? How would that help if there is literally no job to be had due to businesses closing down or establishments trimming down their workforce due to Covid? Sadly, this is just another publicity stunt. It's really getting old, Megs. I think you need serious mentoring(from the Queen, perhaps?) on how to do public service correctly.
Another idea: how about 40 of Meghan's rich friends grant loans to 40 small businesses/ family run businesses on the brink of closing down due to Covid?
I was a mentor, and it entailed several hours with my mentee every week for more than six years. I took her out for a meal every time we met. It is developing a relationship where you teach someone how to get ahead and where you also try not be be some sort of savior. You just do it to help. And it was a big effort and commitment on both our parts. I taught her how to study and took her to my office after hours so that she could become comfortable in a professional environment. I took her to study at Adelphi University (which was nearby) so that she'd be comfortable on a college campus. Complete strangers saw us together and knew why we were there, and they'd pay for our pizza - that was astounding. I brought her to visit my family on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I bought her clothes. We had many important conversations and some very difficult times. I have been to all her graduations, except that one for her Ph.D. She got tired of graduations and skipped that one, too! And I learned just as much from her as she learned from me. We are still close and she is now in her 30s. That is successful mentoring in a nutshell. Best experience of my life.

@@sandraasokwa8460 My age is irrelevant. What matters is that I walk the talk. I mentored an extremely disadvantaged young woman of color from age 12 through 18. She is now a Ph.D. I have been to all her graduations and she is like a daughter to me. It is the best thing I have ever done. I made a huge difference in her life, and she has made a huge difference in mine as well. Enjoy your day - and let's all make the world a better place.

I have a lot of respect for Reese Witherspoon after I learned how she handled her invitation to Meghan and Harry’s wedding: she had never met either Meghan or Harry and was wise enough to see that Meghan was trying to use her to boost her status in Hollywood (unlike Orca Winfrey, the Clooneys and others). She must be fully aware, that no significant support can be achieved in that short amount of time. So the duty will be downhanded by the powerful to a personal assistant/ employee aka less powerful. This person then will be under pressure and will invest many hours if not days into the task so that the powerful have something to show up . Credit then will be given to the powerful but foremost Markle herself for her grande idea and her generousity. Weather or not the whole initiative will have a positive effect on any woman at all doesn't matter.

I like Meghan and Harry but I don't think they thought this one through. Most celebrities have celebrities friends so who would they be mentoring? A random stranger? It just doesn't make sense. If you really want to help struggling out of work single mother's, "Why not ask 4 or more if they choose, to donate 40,000 dollars to help these women pay off some miscellaneous bills, or pay their children's daycare expenses for a year until they're able to find stable work. Also, food in their refrigerators sounds good too. Maybe offer them some money to go back to school, or offering to pay for their tuition would be something to consider too. Idk, It's very hard for me to feel like this is actually sincere when Meghan is practically sitting there in the lap of luxury. @@kimarmstrong6791 why can't they mentor others ...Melissa can mentor somebody interested in films, Misha can mentor somebody who wants to get her job back in fashion industry, Stacey Abrams can help a young person who wants to work in government agencies, Dr. Nadine Burke can mentor a young women wanting reenter job market in field of medicine....the only qualification for mentoring is having gone through due process, ups and downs to make a name in their field...people pay money for these services that sometimes lasts only for 30 mins and so why frown upon it being offered for free?
