Agreed completely. Doing it that way, you can actually get 3 grunts and a leader in one day, just off the balloons (if you're willing to time them all up). Great alternative for rural players.

I've cut back my spending for this game a lot, but decided to splurge this weekend as well since I really wanted the shiny shadow charmander. Spent about $50 in poke coins as well, and I had a lot of fun and felt it was worth it. Stopped once I got the charmander. I think a healthy way to spend on this game is only do it if its something you really want, rather than FOMO of getting XLs for some legendary while its in raids, for example, which I've certainly been guilty of in the past.
You could walk away with no shiny even after $100. Anything with gamble like shiny hunt and eggs is not a wise investment. XL actually is the better investment because it's a sure thing.
I did end up spending $15 to get shiny Mewtwo last month. Otherwise, only putting in $5 a month. Just enough to get at least one of any new legendary or mega evolution to fill out my Pokedex. I do decent enough with making coins at gyms that $5 is enough to accomplish my goals.
Got a shiny shadow Bulbasaur. Had the same thing happen, too. The leaders were not at a ton of pokestops even downtown. Sending shiny luck to everyone hunting these shinies, too.
I got extremely lucky and got a shiny shadow bulbasaur on my FIRST encounter with Cliff! I have been so lucky recently randomly finding shinies, especially with the kanto starters. Hopefully I can pass my luck on to you Nick! Always appreciate your content for the community!

Unfortunately i forgot to give it a second move after TMing frustration away, before evolving but oh well. They should have these events more often honestly. But knowing Niantic they'll rather put a magnetic lure in the 1 coin box than do that.

I caught the Shadow-Shiny Charmander at the pike, it’s a 3 star. It has 15 Attack & Defense with 6 HP….only thing is I caught it near the end of the event & I ran out of TMs so that was bitter sweet.
Just hopped back into Pokemon go about a week or 2 ago. Was unaware about the odds. Actually got a shiny on my second Charmander with decent ivs. Thanks for the vids they're really helping me get back into it!!
Nick, it was actually a great weekend with community day moves for the starters and the team go rocket shadow gen 1 starters. I got a 15-14-13 charmander from Arlo, TM frustration off and evolve it right away to shadow charizard (planning to max it to Level 50). Shiny wise, I got a shiny Squirtle from Sierra and my friend got a shiny Bulbasaur from Cliff. I drove around and found grunt to battle. I also live close enough to a pokestop, which the grunt would pop up every 30-45mins. I tried to get enough components for every two hours ballon to battle the leaders from the ballon
Honestly, catching so many shadow pokemon, catching good-IV-starters from the researches, TMing frustration away, making starters learning CD moves… it felt like I am cheating the game. Way too much benefits for a weekend… x1.5 XP for raids… x5 dust for pvp. These weekend were super busy
I got shadow shiny charizard and now it has blast burn… I also got lots of shadow machops and ralts. I taught my several 3* shadow mudkips CD moves. Wtf?! Have only spend money to increase Pokémon storage (so many good Pokémon) and to do a raid in addition to 2 passes per day to earn rare candies as I was lacking them to evolve my lucky hundo tepig to learn CM move. Random hundo oshawot appeared as well… and a hundo bulbasaur from trade… damn

Since I reached lv 50 I have been saving up my radars for the time thst they switched their teams. Ive went through roughly 100 radars since they got the Kanto starters. So far no shiny, sadly.
I "wasted" $50 on Rocket Battles - Fixed it for you! I really wish there was a base IV for leaders because it's disappointing to put in the work and get a 0/1/1 shadow pokemon. I know they are technically better for battling, but I'm not going to put extra candies into that when I already have maxed out non-shadow versions.
Oml imagine clicking on the radar for the leaders and it actually working!! Holy crap, I live in a small town and have no luck with the pokestops- I’ve never even actually seen a radar work. It’s always the “none around try later” message
I didn't spend this weekend, but I was blessed with a 15/15/12 shadow Charmander. Like yours, it was weather boosted when I caught it. My shiny hunting has been focused on Pansear. No luck so far, but 21 hours left.
2016 player here, being playing less and less every time, but still do timed research and special research here, got blessed with the last encounter, got shiny shadow charmander, couldn't believe it, I used only the radars that I was getting while doing the steps, so I'm very very happy for it.
I wasn't really able to play much until 7/11, and by then they had ended the wild spawns a day early. Not to mention none of the charmanders from wild spawns, field research breakthrough, or Alro rewards had a party hat when they should've. Only way I was able to get the party hat was through Charizard raids.
One thing about the weather boost - you're not going to get the best PVP ivs for the pokemon....unless you're just trying for master league - but for Ultra and Great league you want the lowest attack possible.

I did around the same number of leader battles if not more and I also got none, but I got a 98% shadow venusaur at least. My friend didn't do nearly as many as I did but he got 2 shiny charmanders. Figures.

Its a 40% iv but i powered it up anyways to 2488 with the justification that i've heard lots of creators say that bad shadows are better than a hundo normal (I already have a hundo normal charizard) so I am ok w spending stardust on it bc man it is so cool im actually nerding out about it, maybe ill get a better shadow shiny while they're still here and regret it but for now I am so happy w this guy

I was really lucky this weekend to be staying in a hotel based around 6 stops, with a sunny weather boost the whole time. Basically played the whole time and I ended up with a 96% shadow charizard, a 100% shadow feraligatr (my first shadow hundo, after 3714 shadow encounters) and a 93% blastoise.
My First Rocket Leader battle of the event gave me My Fist Shadow Shiny Bulbasaur, I didn't realize how hard it was to get a shiny from this event! guess it's now that much more Exciting to have! Love the Vids!

I got shadow shinies of Charmander on Day 1 (Saturday) and then Squirtle Day 2 (Sunday) - then got shiny shadow Bulbasaur this morning. I cannot believe the luck! No Rocket Radars were bought either - all F2P. Only thing was that Bulbasaur hasn't been TM's and evolved because I missed the window but I cannot complain at all!
They should allow users to keep collecting the rocket parts after you get a rocket radar. Sometimes I look in 3 areas and there are no leaders and waiting 6 hours for one is a pain. Also Sierra at least for me is in 95% of the rocket leader stops I find…when I want the other 2. It usually takes me around 1,000 leader battles to get a shiny with 2-4% IVs (I am still hoping for a shiny shadow nundo).
I got a shiny charmander battling the first team go rocket leader. I guess its better to try your luck then spending lots of money without any warranty.
My first ballon at midnight when the event started was a 3 star shiny Charmander, my wife then did her ballon and asked me to do her shiny check and her Squirtle was also shiny!
Great vid. Your frustration is shared by many, me included. I am becoming much more aware of how much money I've been spending in Pokemon Go, especially since the recent changes in the shop and box contents Because of this, I am using far less incubators now and being very selective on how I use remote raid passes.
Ended with a Shadow Venusaur at 2497 for ultra league and a shadow Charizard I need to invest some stardust in at 2499 cp. Might wait on the dust though. I didn't spend any money or hunt really hard but I did go out of my way to mainly do Cliff and I battled 4-5 Cliff and 6 or so of the other two. Not bad all things considered.

Why would you need to teach it a second move before evolving it? Or are you saying you didn't do that or tm away frustration?

My best shadow this weekend was shadow Murkrow (15/13/13). Did each leader once for the tasks but focused on regular Rocket battles over the leaders.

I got a shadow 10,15,15 bulbasaur which I evolved and was my best catch. But also got lots of 12 eggs and a couple of decent hatches in there too.

I was really lucky this weekend to be staying in a hotel based around 6 stops, with a sunny weather boost the whole time. Basically played the whole time and I ended up with a 96% shadow charizard, a 100% shadow feraligatr (my first shadow hundo, after 3714 shadow encounters) and a 93% blastoise.

I was able to get a shadow shinx in the last 5 min before midnight. Plenty of time to TM, got super lucky because it took me an hour to find one.
My First Rocket Leader battle of the event gave me My Fist Shadow Shiny Bulbasaur, I didn't realize how hard it was to get a shiny from this event! guess it's now that much more Exciting to have! Love the Vids!
Same here. I did not get any shiny shadow pokemon but I did find a shiny charmander with the hat. Maybe next time I will get the shiny shadow one.
I was glad to have this event. Got a hundo shadow Charmander a while back. So I more have a level 50 100% Charizard. Great video keep yo the things you do
Got lucky and got the Charmander and Bulbasaur, but no dice on Squirtle. Will keep trying for that one and maybe TM it if they bring the event back for HC.
I got shadow shinies of Charmander on Day 1 (Saturday) and then Squirtle Day 2 (Sunday) - then got shiny shadow Bulbasaur this morning. I cannot believe the luck! No Rocket Radars were bought either - all F2P. Only thing was that Bulbasaur hasn't been TM's and evolved because I missed the window but I cannot complain at all!
Shadow Pokémon in all leagues are good so I actually prefer when there isn’t a weather boosted time.
They should allow users to keep collecting the rocket parts after you get a rocket radar. Sometimes I look in 3 areas and there are no leaders and waiting 6 hours for one is a pain. Also Sierra at least for me is in 95% of the rocket leader stops I find…when I want the other 2.
It usually takes me around 1,000 leader battles to get a shiny with 2-4% IVs (I am still hoping for a shiny shadow nundo).
I got a shiny charmander battling the first team go rocket leader. I guess its better to try your luck then spending lots of money without any warranty.
I GRINDED the hell out of Arlo over the weekend. JUST before the end I finally got a shiney Charmander. Terrible IV but whatever. Lol
in downtown huntington there was only 3 leaders. i had to drive all over the place to get them idk what was going on
I did a good 5 to 7 leader battles at the weekend. No shinies and 1 stars across the board:( but I suppose we can still get the starters for a while.
My first ballon at midnight when the event started was a 3 star shiny Charmander, my wife then did her ballon and asked me to do her shiny check and her Squirtle was also shiny!
Great vid. Your frustration is shared by many, me included. I am becoming much more aware of how much money I've been spending in Pokemon Go, especially since the recent changes in the shop and box contents Because of this, I am using far less incubators now and being very selective on how I use remote raid passes.
Caught a perfect IV shadow charmander at like 7am Monday morning right after the event ended... guess im.waiting til December to tm/evolve it
Ended with a Shadow Venusaur at 2497 for ultra league and a shadow Charizard I need to invest some stardust in at 2499 cp. Might wait on the dust though.
I didn't spend any money or hunt really hard but I did go out of my way to mainly do Cliff and I battled 4-5 Cliff and 6 or so of the other two. Not bad all things considered.
