Hi, I have a small garden area for my birds and Hummingbirds and butterflies. I need to know, what mulch, if any, should I use in my garden?

Great question - for our perennial gardens, we typically use leaf mulch by Midwest Trading. It is a fine-shredded natural product that is great for covering perennials over winter and preventing weeds, without inhibiting the growth of the perennials. For new plants it is good to cover them completely over winter, and then pull the leaf mulch away in the spring.
Fine shredded mulches are fine as well, just make sure not to bury the plants or have mulch touching their stems while they are actively growing.
