    Glenallachie 12 is half the price and much better imo.
    There are some high age stagement independant bottles of Macallan sherried releases like Signatory 17/18 year cask strength and especially the Speymalt 2000/2021CS(among several other vintages) releases from G&M that are so much more reasonably priced.

      @@jamesbroadfoot5269 Last 3 bottles I bought were $48 Cad each. Mac 12 is between 150-180 Cad and Glenallachie 12 now ranges 75-90 Cad depending on the province or store. For me it's half price. Even if it was the same price it still would be better imo.

    So stoked to see these Scotch Sunday's. Tried the Octomore 14.3 the other night with my brother. Price and age aside, it was phenomenal.

    This was my first scotch whiskey love 25 years ago. It was so reasonably priced back then. As much as I love this, there is no way I would pay $90 to100 for it. A year ago I found it at super target on clearance for $45 so I picked up 2 bottles. At that price it is definitely worth it every day. But the regular prices today are out of this world. There are better whiskies out there for what they are asking for today.

    Keep these Scocth Sunday reviews coming. I don't really like the fact that a lot of Sherry finished or matured Scotch whisky use Sherry seasoned casks instead of old, legit Sherry butts.

    Really enjoying Scotch Sundays. I differ in this bottle as the couple I've purchased had a phenomenal nose and just an average palate. I agree at $100 it's an easy skip over for now, I'd like to see it at $60 and I'd think about this a little bit more.

    Appreciate the review. Being new to Scotch I would find it helpful to hear the better alternatives. I only ask because I respect your opinions. I think Jason C. and you are the best describing whiskey Thanks

    The small liquor shop up the street doesn’t have the new MSRP on this I guess. I paid $70 May 2024.
    I thought it was pretty good, way better than I was expecting based on the comment section. I’m new to Scotch tho, so I’m open to suggestions and definitely taking notes!

    Great honest review Cam. Just a thought for your American whiskey viewers curious about scotch, the Glenfiddich 14 finished in ex-bourbon casks is an excellent entry, in my opinion.

    Solid review Cam. Agree with you that I won't buy another (last one i have left is the dark red box bottled Jan 2013. I believe newer ones are in a black box).
    If i was a noob I'd try Glendronach 12 $50. Or if you want to spend $70 Glenallachie 12 is a solid sherried experience.
    Like to see more scotch videos for those of use who were scotch drinkers first, Cheers!

  • @keithpetersen560
    @keithpetersen560 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The standard 12 yr and other distillery releases have gotten out of price control. I just bought a Redacted Independent Bottle for $55. It's a non-disclosed Macallan with a 6 yr label, but it's actually a 12 yr. They have to label it as a 6 yr because it got a splash of 6 yr grain whisky added. The nose and palate is Macallan all day long, non-chilled, natural color at 46%. It is so good and crushes the standard release. You just have to do a little work, but there are great buys out there for scotch. Great review.

    Great review, Cam. About 15-20 years ago, Macallan 12 was always on my shelf. Yep, back when my shelf had just 3 or 4 whiskeys. Lol. I haven't bought it since it was just under $50, which was over 10 years ago. Question for you or others: Have you compared this classic 12 (sherry) with the double and triple cask?

    Agreed. . . Mac is but a shadow of itself. . . I drammed snice 1991, Mac12 was 45-60$ WAY back then . . .quality is dwindling, especially the Classic Cut 2023 thing, like a 4 year-old stuff . . .

  • @bigal4702
    @bigal4702 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Really interesting results, macallan is often known for the palate not living up to the nose due to the low proof! I think of macallan a lot like blantons at its new $84 MSRP - it’s a good whiskey, just not worth its MSRP, but is riding the wave of its hype of yesteryear. I enjoy it, but I totally agree that there are better available for less

    I was a Macallan fan for many years but the quality has fallen off as the price has risen dramatically. They have a very effective marketing machine and they have become the BMW of scotch whiskey. Very overrated compared to what it once was back in the day IMO. I'll take Glendronach over Macallan any day of the week for the money and Rachel Barrie is doing some great things there. Aberlour A'Bunadh Cask Strength is a spectacular pour to check out as well if you haven't had it. Keep up the great work!

    One of my favorites. I wish it were higher proof I think if it was 50abv it would be better. As far as the price I’m okay with it here around me in NE Ohio it’s like 95. Again it’s about the name here and what they are doing. If you can get the 18 that’s a banger.

    One of my band mates has the same bottle of McCallen that I have and his doesn’t have that rubber note . My Highland park 12 is the same way. Don’t like the drag strip burn out smell. Maybe I’m just an Islay guy. I don’t get any of that on Islay it’s more like BBQ smoke. The Springbank is excellent as well.

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I think Islay whiskies have those kinds of notes by design, and they fit the profile, but whenever I get a sherried profile that has off notes, it just bothers me (especially at $100+ for a brand like Mac). Glendronach 15 at the same price is better, and I’d suggest other cheaper alternatives like Tamdhu or Glenmo Lasanta over this for a similar experience.

      @roscoepcoltrane23 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrumsAndDrams I like the Lasanta I don’t get a lot of rubber tire on it. Ardbeg Uigeadail and the Springbank 12 cs are probably my favorite sherried whiskeys I’ve had so far. I haven’t had a sherried Laphroaig yet but definitely gonna get one. Loving the scotch content.

      Sorry, I batch filmed this with lots of other videos the same night lol. Sometimes when I do that I miss things, as usually I don’t plan videos - often off the cuff. There are sure to be alternatives in the comments (already I’ve mentioned some and others as well). Glenallachie 12, Glendronach 15, Glenmo Lasanta, Tamdhu 12/15, some being cheaper and some right at the same price point. My bad 😬

    Say no to fake sugar, in whiskey or soda, that sweetness is so chemical and offensive. If I want to start a newbie in the Scotch world with a friendly sherried expression, it’s Balvenie 12 Doublewood hand down, not Macallan. For $60.

  • @sugarkitty4777
    @sugarkitty4777 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    No. Go ahead. It's OK to rag on it. At least at the high price tag Springbank actually has a good product. This is just filtered and colored and sulfur and coconut. No thanks. I would pass on half the price. A nice Glendronach, a Tamdhu, even a Tomatin or Glengoyne if I want a sherry bomb.
