I made apple butter last year for first time in the crockpot, just so you know you don't need to peel the apples the skin cooks down with the apples and you cannot tell they are in there
Learned how to get wax off apples. Get boiling water add in a pot that will hold about 4 apples drop apples in the water for 15 seconds wipe off the wax. Place apples in large pot with 1/2 cup vinegar and cold water. Soak to get pesticides off
Cool, thanks. Have seen people make apple in the cock pots but was curious about how to can the stuff. :) One hint about the slow cooker method I think I'll use is doing the 10 hour cook cycle before going to sleep (before you use hand blender the snot out of it).
U don’t need all that liquid. A cup at most is enough. Turn it on low before u go to bed. Then if it’s not thick enough in the morning turn the lid so the steam escapes and turn it on high until thick
Pat R.....yep, apples make they’re own juice. I add very little. The last batch I made was too thin, because I put a little too much liquid. I don’t water bath. I can apple butter like tomatoes, boil the mixture and get it into boiling hot jars and seals, fast. Works great for me. Had no spoilage
Thank you. I have a recipe but couldn't remember how many minutes to boil when processing & if I leave in canner for any length of time. You saved me!! Made some Apple Butter in the Ball Electric Canner. I live in a Apt & any Canner I've used gets destroyed within 3 sessions. Crockpot is the way to go. I actually cook in on WARM overnight.
I had an a lot of apples gifted to me. I decided to make apple butter in a crockpot and it's delicious. I have my jars in the dishwasher and water boiling. Your video so far has been the best for me. Of the videos I watched none said to have the water boiling (I am a true beginner) The only question I believe I am left with is do I want the popping sound or not?
The popping of the lids means they're sealed! 24 hours after you take them out of the canner, if any of the lids are not sealed (so you can flex them up and down in the middle), refrigerate and use those first. Good luck and happy canning!
Awesome video. Never heard of apple butter. I wish you would have sampled it. I suppose you could have it on toast. It sounds delicious. Now I need to look for your salsa canning video you referred to in the end. Thanks! Great job!
Wow, this was a great job. I am from Germany🇩🇪 and never heard about apple butter before. I only know apple sauce. I am curious about the apple butter and give it a try this weekend 😃👋🏻👋🏻
Ernie Hatmaker I always make it that way, cooking overnight and usually some of the next day. I don’t peel. Core and Chop? I add powdered apple cider mix and sugar. I use a immersion blender also. Easy.
I just finished making it and it’s pretty thin,I’ve cooked it on the stove also and it’s not getting any thicker. Is that the consistency, thin? It tastes awesome!
Yes! I always can on a glass top stove and never have any issues. A couple tips: - Fill the pot ON the stove, don't fill it and then put it on the stove. This ensures you don't slam it down and risk cracking the top. - Make sure the cooktop is clean before you start, so you don't burn anything onto the glass top.
Before storing, it's a good idea to remove the rings from the jars so you can ensure you don't have a false seal. It also helps prevent rust on the lids and rings!
Hi there! I never store any canned food with the rings - it helps prevent rust from forming under the ring and also provides a better indicator on if the seal has degraded over time.
I just followed the recipe I found, I am by no means an expert, but it turned out great. This year I used the same recipe with great results as well. IMO using a longer cook time makes the end product richer.
@@GardensbyLindsey You're fine.Whatever works. I make my butter now, Dec-Jan.. The apples are not going to keep much longer and you end up with the same fibre and sugar content. I also have more time and the heat and humidity are welcome. Hint: over heating causes the sugar to caramelize and you end up with fruit leather in places on your pot.. Yummy but not if you don't want that.
You don't put on a lid when you water bath can? That's called open kettle and is no longer considered safe. Also you may not want to fill all the jars at once assembly line style, which gives the contents a chance to cool before putting into the boiling water.
Made apple butter for the first time and you’re the first person to successfully show me how to can anything! Thank you!
That makes me so happy! I'm so proud of you!

Apple butter is popular in the south too! We make it on our homestead twice a year here in Central Texas
Great job on the tutorial! They look great! I love your idea of putting the lids and rings in a colander in the dishwasher. Will be trying this
Love apple butter and it’s really good added into your BBQ sauce for BBQ ribs. Adds a whole new layer of flavor and goodness to ribs!

You sure can peel apples fast😂😂👍👍👍
I have been so nervous to try it now I feel more confident. Thank you
You've got this!
What a great recipe! I’m going to give it a try this weekend. You can use all the peels and cores to make apple jelly. It’s divine!

I just found your channel when looking for an Apple Butter video!! I subscribed!

I hope you love it! It's super sweet is delicious on toast!
I love it! Great on waffles, in bread recipes, in oatmeal, on pork..there are some ingredients you can add to make an apple butter BBQ sauce too.
I’ve learned since this video that you can use organic apples with peels on I did it that way the disapear
Would you make pumpkin butter please.
Very helpful! Thank you!!
I skip the sugar and it comes out real nice.
I've never made apple butter in the crockpot. Interesting!

Why a combination of white and brown sugar? Why not straight white ir straight brown?
How did the thickness turn out after the boil and cooling? Thank you for the great watch!
I also have a glass type stovetop. Did your canning pot fit ok? I want to use my stovetop, but would like some advice. Thank you for your video!

What do you mean about remove the rings?
Before storing, it's a good idea to remove the rings from the jars so you can ensure you don't have a false seal. It also helps prevent rust on the lids and rings!
How do you store these? Do they need to be in the freezer? Also once you unseal the can how long is it good for? Thanks!
Once they're canned, they're shelf stable! Once you unseal the jar, I keep it in the fridge and it'll last for a while -- think jam or jelly.
@@GardensbyLindsey Do you have to use pectin if you are canning them or can you just can them and seal them and they will still be shelf stable?
@@prairielifekitchen
I add a tiny bit of lemon juice to increase acidity but probably not necessary
Little bourbon helps....with the apples. Ok...maybe the cook.
I did this crock.pot apple butter. This is my first time canning anything. So my question in my jar it had some moisture. Taste great. Just concerned.
Why do you take the rings off?
Hi there! I never store any canned food with the rings - it helps prevent rust from forming under the ring and also provides a better indicator on if the seal has degraded over time.
LifeWithLindthom cool. Thank you
Much easier using a Victoria strainer. No need to peel or core.
I do now know what that is 😂
Why did so many pop?
You mean the ping sound? That's the jars sealing! That's exactly the sound you're listening for in those first 24 hours.
Pragmatical me, One is driving off moisture, not adding it? I hope you haven't mislead people.
