It feels more exclusive and gets people to spend more while still accepting advertisements. If they can pull it off they have no reason not to do this it’s incredibly lucrative. As long as the income statement and balance sheet look nice it’s not of concern to the company.
Turbo exists. It's been around since 2013 if I recall correctly. They do not advertise it though. Or make it easy to access. It's hidden in settings and stuff so that you are more likely to buy individual subs for channels you love.
As a newbie streamer who just finished their affiliate paperwork. I REALLY hope that changes are made for the better and not for the worse. It’s already had enough growing on twitch as a small streamer and I just hope it doesn’t get harder with money being the main goal
The narrative of 2022-2023 with all the tech lay off and silicon valley money drying up, it should not come as a surprise that Amazon is looking at twitch with more scrutiny and pressuring it to actually turn a profit. Thank god Twitch is not a publicly traded company, or 2022-2023 would have been hella rough.
The reason why no one is talking about Emet is because people where unsure what he did and if he even realised that he is/was CEO LuL. The reason why no one is talking about Dan is because people knew that he was kinda in charge for a longer time (see the letter you took as prove). As you said the problem is not with the plattform itself but with the ammount and kinds of monetization on Twitch. Jake also really names the problems and feelings. As always though appreciate your coverage. Keep it up man.
I think a factor for why social media CEOs are stepping down is because the supreme court is about to hear multiple cases regarding Section 230. For those who don't know, if Section 230 is repealed, social media companies could be held liable for any harmful content posted on their platforms. I guess in Twitch's case it's a bit less problematic, but if I were Susan, I wouldn't want to be around for that shitstorm. Lot of options for how to approach running a platform post section 230, none of them good.

“Why don’t you make some products so that there’s some discoverability on the platform, why don’t we create some sort of system in which people can grow on Twitch natively without growing on other platforms and then bring their viewers to Twitch” Thanks Ludwig, someone had to say this loud and clear. This is why I've created a startup with some friends of mine and I developed a game around this concept - Fantastreamer - where small/new streamers can be seen and benefit from the communities of the bigger streamers that decided to join. This video is such an inspiration for keep us goin.
I'm a software engineer and this stuff all makes me wanna make a platform that actually listens to streamers, but I have such a huge fear of making it and then people not using it.
@@mybootscamewithoutstraps go for it dude! If you think you can do it better, get to work! If you have people who will help you, tell them. If you do a good job, success is a matter of time as well
The final point is that nothing will change because all of the streamers and viewers will keep streaming and viewing. They don't HAVE to change, so they will not. Just like every other business in the world. Keep giving them money, they'll keep doing what they're doing (until they want MORE money and then they'll find more ways to scrape off of the creators with still no changes)😕
I want to appreciate Ludwig for strapping the pants and upload more content for us, despite all the things that have been happening especially with QT. Respect, my man! I was expecting you take an actual break, but here you are. It's awesome. Now, I don't want to give you some bad news amidst this wholesome message, but it has come to my attention, that a certain streamer, tall and skinny, earned a +1 yesterday. Hope he had a great day. But it also seems that a certain other streamer, with red hair and big balloons sent him a birthday video saying hello and wishing him a happy birthday. Now, that all seems fine and wholesome, which it is. However... I think (not sure) she was supposed to be doing the Luddy. I'm not a Luddy expert, but from what I've seen so far, that's ONE OF THE WORST ONES. I feel you should know about it and take action asap. She has too much influence to be Luddying around like that, pretending it's all fine. This is very dangerous. PS: I don't care about Emett Shire
It’s like Charlie said, if you looked at any social media for emmet there’s no way you’d know he was the ceo of twitch. I feel like twitch is slowly dying and if TH-cam is able to promote their live streams better, get a better chat, that possibly more creators will make the switch
Yeah, I pay about $75/month to Twitch streamers, $25/month to YT, and $10/month to Netflix. Twitch needs to grow their user base and find more people like me to be in it. The could do so much with clips! But it's too hard to search and find the good ones.
TH-cam switch looking real good right now. Maybe Lud's actually a time traveller and knew about all the Twitch...things that would happen. Not in this car lol.
Twitch needs a tiktok/shorts feed that links directly with peoples channels. Scroll through clips or live content that can rope you into checking out the channel directly in the same app not external link following. Seems like they have the resources to do it weird that they wouldn’t want to considering how well short form content does. Make the short form feed to long form
Wait, did this guy really just explain the concept of twitch clips? lol Edit: I get what your saying btw, make an interface that suggests and displays clips that you might like based on an algorithm like all other content consumption sites/apps.
I 100% agree Twitch needs to spend time focusing on viewer increases, discoverability etc. As a streamer there aren't near as many options or avenues to grow (Plus all the viewbotting/embedded exploits that happened) on twitch. The fact that as an Affiliate who CAN make them money gets you zero promotion on the site itself is broken. Meanwhile while everyone shits on Kick there are huge communities of streamers growing/working together and getting more exposure than twitch ever provided. All the while funneling those views into our discords etc. to retain them in the (Probably inevitable) event that Kick fails. Also been a great way to network with other streamers who use Twitch etc. Outside of the obvious monetary benefits for streamers it's confusing that people are telling people to not bother. Kick for sure lacks a process for growth too, but the community is grass rooting each other hard RN. It's a shame that small streamers are being turned away from Kick by corporatized/huge streamers/orgs with out doing their own research. Peak viewership on Twitch after YEARS is somewhere in the 60s. Peak viewers on kick in 12 days is 102. Same content on both. Just to compare I streamed the same music set on both sites two nights. Kick brought me a new peak/70 viewer average. Twitch had 3 of my regulars/mods in it who had ALREADY watched me play the same set and 1 normal viewer. The only way to climb on twitch is by climbing on other platforms (YT, Insta) etc. or be naked in a hot tub. With a few exceptions to pro gamers etc;. obviously. Both streams received the same level of advertising too.
I believe twitch removing the friend system was a similar move to TH-cam removing dislikes; a step in the opposite direction. Twitch more than TH-cam has the opportunity to be the absolute best platform for gaming, but it's lacking a bunch of features that would grant such a status.
I feel like most people who use twitch don't follow many people. On youtube im probably subscribed to 1000s of creators but on twitch i follow maybe 50 and thats a quite a high number of people to follow on twitch. Ill often open twitch and see nothing i want to watch, i rarely find new streamers to watch, the discoverability makes me use the site less because unless the specific streamers i like are online doing something im interested in, i close the website and check youtube. maybe if i had a way to find new content easily id watch more twitch and sub to more streamers
I'm not worried or over joyed I'm not expecting much change nor at a changed rate of speed for changes to come through. I have a feeling it'll just be the same old twitch. Without someone cultured in the space it'll just be more of the usual.
hearing that emmet (the old ceo) has a child, I can 100% understand why he didn't understand what was going on... He must be a family man at heart, and would rather spend time with family than looking at twitch streams, ultimately leading to him resigning.
I try to watch some twitch streams (on mobile) every once in a while and what keeps me away from it is the ONSLAUGHT of unskipable ads and poor maneuverability of the app itself. It literally just sucks to use (again, on mobile at least)
@@jacobinelson6759 Yes, after I watch one ad at the beginning of the stream, I can go an hour before I see another ad. TH-cam is force feeding them constantly. I cannot believe that people can trash Twitch went TH-cam is so much worse.
@@chefbigdog1813 sure but can you skip any of the at least 3 in a row that they feed you? Overall time spent watching ads is far less, and also doesn’t fix its shit layout
Going on the growth angle, its crazy to me that clips don't have a like button, or better discoverability. throw ads on clip pages as banners. simple 3-headed stuff...
Who is driving that traffic though? Most streamers get rich because of Twitch. For every Tim, Ludwig, Rae, Courage that leaves, a Kai, NickMercs, Clix, Mizkif replaces them. I thought that Twitch would drop off massively after Ninja and other streamers left for Mixer at their height of popularity, guess what, Twitch grew without them.
It's amazing how many corporations, usually already multi million if not billion dollar ones, get so money obsessed that they lose touch with what made them successful in the first place. Like do you reeeally need MORE money that badly? I'm so sick of all the greed.
I'm part of a dnd group that streams on twitch I have fruitlessly been trying to get us to leave for youtube, we don't make any real money anyways we should at the very least be trying to grow
It sounds like what you're proposing is that they try to focus on growth which is what they've been doing this whole time while operating at a loss, Twitch could ultimately go under if they fail to become profitable
I spend $9.99 a month on YT because their ads were so invasive and long. Because I do this, I'm very adverse to spending on another platform, so I watch clips and vods. I haven't watched a Twitch stream in years even though I like a lot of stream personalities.
Lud is absolutely right, Twitch needs to create a better system to discover new streamers. When I go on twitch, if nobody I follow is streaming, I just leave the site.
Ludwig is looking at this, i'm sorry to say, at the perspective that's not that different from twitch, and it is "How can I make more money?" But the question should be "How can the streaming industry grow?". And that's not by actually looking for viewers, it's by looking for content creators. The split 50/50 or even 30/70 is fine for large creators because they already make unreasonable amounts of money. It's the small streamers who need to be supported and nurtured. Then the viewers will come organically.
Being CEO is stressful, especially for a company that is not driving any profit towards the actual owners. Listening to your content creators is a very good way to progress the company towards a very successful business BUT its probably not the most profitable way to go about especially when you have the people at the top being impatient about outcome.
7:25 - What I don't is why are people paying for Twitch streamers at all? You get to watch EVERYTHING they publish for free, with sound and in 1080p if the streamer has that setup. I have watched on Twitch for years and only ever bought subscription to SovietWomble twice and never again. There is literally no need to subscribe or pay money for anything. Especially to guys like Ludwig or XQC or Asmongold since they are already multi-millionaires and don't need more money at all. And even still, you get to watch streams on YT for free as well, same format.
Yeah it really sucks being an extremely small streamer like myself, not getting any views unless I make TikTok’s and TH-cam shorts to promote my account Which I really hate doing
The CEO of every major Organization has stepped down or been replaced the last like 3 years. Even at my own small town but large company the CEO turned over and all the corporate guys dipped out in the same year. Fishy shit at this point.

May I introduce you to Twitch Turbo? www.twitch.tv/turbo
It feels more exclusive and gets people to spend more while still accepting advertisements. If they can pull it off they have no reason not to do this it’s incredibly lucrative. As long as the income statement and balance sheet look nice it’s not of concern to the company.
It’s called turbo
That's been a thing for a long while now. It's called Twitch Turbo.
Turbo exists. It's been around since 2013 if I recall correctly. They do not advertise it though. Or make it easy to access. It's hidden in settings and stuff so that you are more likely to buy individual subs for channels you love.
youtube ceo and twitch ceo leaveing in the mixt of the streaming wars literally cannot be a good thing
As a newbie streamer who just finished their affiliate paperwork. I REALLY hope that changes are made for the better and not for the worse. It’s already had enough growing on twitch as a small streamer and I just hope it doesn’t get harder with money being the main goal
What I hate about twitch is the amount of 30 second ads when you start watching a streamer
Yup, I don’t even use Twitch anymore because of there being no adblock that works anymore

The moment when you ask the former CEO of a multi billion dollar corporation to text you about a conspiracy theory
I absolutely believe his theory, that’s what rich people do to stay above the rest of us
The reason why no one is talking about Emet is because people where unsure what he did and if he even realised that he is/was CEO LuL.

I wouldn’t know I’m watching Mr.Mogul
I think a factor for why social media CEOs are stepping down is because the supreme court is about to hear multiple cases regarding Section 230.
For those who don't know, if Section 230 is repealed, social media companies could be held liable for any harmful content posted on their platforms.
I guess in Twitch's case it's a bit less problematic, but if I were Susan, I wouldn't want to be around for that shitstorm.
Lot of options for how to approach running a platform post section 230, none of them good.

So glad Ludwig followed Mogul Mail and moved to TH-cam really early on❤
Mogul Mail was on twitch? Didn't know that because the lack of discoverability.
wtf dan looks like a combination of Hulk Hogan and Richard Branson
“Why don’t you make some products so that there’s some discoverability on the platform, why don’t we create some sort of system in which people can grow on Twitch natively without growing on other platforms and then bring their viewers to Twitch”
Thanks Ludwig, someone had to say this loud and clear. This is why I've created a startup with some friends of mine and I developed a game around this concept - Fantastreamer - where small/new streamers can be seen and benefit from the communities of the bigger streamers that decided to join.
This video is such an inspiration for keep us goin.
Accidently clicked a video from some guy called "Ludwig" thinking it was Mogul Mail. Crazy how similar they look!!!
I'm a software engineer and this stuff all makes me wanna make a platform that actually listens to streamers, but I have such a huge fear of making it and then people not using it.

Dang, this Mogul guy is on the grind. I think Ludwig should take some notes from him.
Worker (in this case creator) owned sites is the only way to go in the future to avoid the sites becoming out of touch with their own customers.
Streamer of the year quote really goes to show the state of corporate greed and the probable mass exit of streamer to other platforms
Good job Mr.Wig
Unless he removes twitch Prime, nothing will change.
Ludwig’s hair is hypnotizing me
You mean mogul mails hair :)
Mogul mail.
First youtube, now twitch, maybe things'll start changing in the video and streaming industry.
Twitch needs to loosen their restraints. The things they do and don't do are asinine.
Great, restructuring surely will not lead to anything bad for any of our platforms

Go touch some grass
It’s like Charlie said, if you looked at any social media for emmet there’s no way you’d know he was the ceo of twitch. I feel like twitch is slowly dying and if TH-cam is able to promote their live streams better, get a better chat, that possibly more creators will make the switch
hey ludwig i know you are seeing this love your takes and keep up the good work. Have a nice day and night.
You two ignore the bots.
Yeah, I pay about $75/month to Twitch streamers, $25/month to YT, and $10/month to Netflix. Twitch needs to grow their user base and find more people like me to be in it. The could do so much with clips! But it's too hard to search and find the good ones.
Emmet definitely was watching some video about twitch and heard his name like someone hearing their name in the hunger games
You should start a spin off channel where you go more in depth on your personal feelings towards topics! This is a solid shot tho luv u
Shear stepping down is the most involved with Twitch I‘ve ever seen him.

I love how he can never disappoint us with his content
bot 😔
Twitch needs a tiktok/shorts feed that links directly with peoples channels. Scroll through clips or live content that can rope you into checking out the channel directly in the same app not external link following. Seems like they have the resources to do it weird that they wouldn’t want to considering how well short form content does. Make the short form feed to long form
Wait, did this guy really just explain the concept of twitch clips? lol
Edit: I get what your saying btw, make an interface that suggests and displays clips that you might like based on an algorithm like all other content consumption sites/apps.
Read the 25 iluminati goals and it will make sense.
I believe twitch removing the friend system was a similar move to TH-cam removing dislikes; a step in the opposite direction. Twitch more than TH-cam has the opportunity to be the absolute best platform for gaming, but it's lacking a bunch of features that would grant such a status.
9:23 Mogul won't leak, Ludwig could never
I feel like most people who use twitch don't follow many people.

It literally just sucks to use (again, on mobile at least)
...and yet here you are on TH-cam where you get 15 ads in a 5 minute video.
@@chefbigdog1813 …but u can skip them? And there aren’t actually that many? Do u have an actual defense for twitch?
@@jacobinelson6759 Yes, after I watch one ad at the beginning of the stream, I can go an hour before I see another ad. TH-cam is force feeding them constantly. I cannot believe that people can trash Twitch went TH-cam is so much worse.
@@chefbigdog1813 sure but can you skip any of the at least 3 in a row that they feed you? Overall time spent watching ads is far less, and also doesn’t fix its shit layout
@@chefbigdog1813 also can’t rewind currently airing streams, which is inconvenient for anyone who doesn’t schedule their own lives around streams
Going on the growth angle, its crazy to me that clips don't have a like button, or better discoverability. throw ads on clip pages as banners. simple 3-headed stuff...
A 50/50 split is insane. Imagine driving so much traffic to a site, just have half of your revenue taken from you 💀
Who is driving that traffic though? Most streamers get rich because of Twitch. For every Tim, Ludwig, Rae, Courage that leaves, a Kai, NickMercs, Clix, Mizkif replaces them. I thought that Twitch would drop off massively after Ninja and other streamers left for Mixer at their height of popularity, guess what, Twitch grew without them.
That's a pretty awesome sweater ngl
the vod isnt on your channel strange had to search
9:15 Facts! I literally though that when Susan stepped down. The recession about to get way worse and people see it coming.
A CEO "stepping down" is a way for them to save face when they get fired.
Lud just streamed in Moguls exact outfit for like 6 hours
Being CEO is stressful, especially for a company that is not driving any profit towards the actual owners. Listening to your content creators is a very good way to progress the company towards a very successful business BUT its probably not the most profitable way to go about especially when you have the people at the top being impatient about outcome.
everyone that switched to TH-cam must be so happy with the way things are going

7:25 - What I don't is why are people paying for Twitch streamers at all? You get to watch EVERYTHING they publish for free, with sound and in 1080p if the streamer has that setup. I have watched on Twitch for years and only ever bought subscription to SovietWomble twice and never again. There is literally no need to subscribe or pay money for anything. Especially to guys like Ludwig or XQC or Asmongold since they are already multi-millionaires and don't need more money at all. And even still, you get to watch streams on YT for free as well, same format.
