I like that you didn't change the functions of the box, just added to its features.
So many modders virtually destroy the internals to make a "bluetooth speaker"
I don't think theh get it.

Thanks for your comment, I totally agree, for me it is about restoring the original vintage boombox and adding modern everyday usability to it. Some of these old vintage boxes are really desirable. I have just been lucky enough to find an Aiwa TPR-900 one of two first ever portable stereo boxes the other being Sony. I owned a TPR-900 from new which I bought in 1975 it cost me £85 quid and that was a whole heap of money back then for a young teenager still at school. I threw it away 10 years ago. I am really looking forward to restoring it and yep I will add bluetooth to it. I wish I had kept my old one so I could have restored it, but my skills are more recent than that and of course ebay is great for parts and sacrificial units for spares. I think I will do a vlog when I can find to restore and repair it.

Bought this new when it came out. I don't remember how much I paid but it was all the money I had at the time, probably over $200.00. I loved the flat top panel and having all the controls up front. That section above the speakers always reminded me of a rack component.

My first box was a gift for elementary school grad, it was a prosonic that was defective ojt of the box, my mother and I went to the woolco to exchange but it was their last one so we were given a refund and we went to an electronics store and we bought a General Electric model #5266a, what a beast that was even at only 5w per channel that thing was loud and superb sound.
My older brother took it camping or some other event and it came back broken.
Now I have two JVC rv-nb1 and I plug my minidisc players into the aux inputs but I'm still looking for that old ge to show up on Kijiji, I'd love to have that box again.
Keep up the great vids my friend.

Nice job here. I think what anyone has to look for is an old unit with Aux or Line-in as one of the modes. That way you don't have to sacrifice anything else to add this function. Also I'd think it's not too hard to put an extra switch on the back to turn off the bluetooth so you can still patch through the RCA connectors on the back if you want.

Thanks. You are right about the aux I try to find boomboxes with aux in. Also that is a good tip about making the Bluetooth switchable. I'm currently trying to figure out how to add these to boxes without aux in a way that doesn't sacrifice functionality.

HI Paul I forgot to say the RCA connectors on the back still work fine providing the bluetooth adaptor is not connected to phone or other device but I have done others that I have bade switchable.

I've just put an identical one on ebay with a faulty tape deck. They do have great sound though, beginning to think I should keep it now
