  • This rare V-1200 mini system is the top of the line from AIWA in 1985. The year of Live-Aid! Madonna, Huey Lewis, Simple Minds, Duran Duran, A-Ha and more were on the radio and MTV. The cassette medium was king and CDs were expensive and scarce. This set features an easy connection rack system that AIWA was doing during this era that includes a remote control component that houses the remote. The set has had many hours of restoration work done. This set is a technological wonder of Japanese electronics. In my opinion, this set marks some of the very last great marvels from AIWA in the fabulous 1980s.
    This unit features an "engineering triumph" double cassette deck that has a 5 cassette changer on the left side. The changer side of the deck allows for a 5 tape, pre-loaded sorting cartridge. Both sides offer auto-reverse, Dolby B&C. The changer side offers extensive programing of cassette and track order.
    The unique AFBS (Acoustic Feedback System) speaker system features a microphone set up to read low frequency sound waves and negatively feeds them back to the amplifier. This system can cleanly reproduce, tighter, more dynamic bass frequency with less distortion. The cool square, honeycomb-structure combined with the AFBS allows this unit to sound like systems 3 times the size & cost. The original tweeters were blown when I acquired the set. I have installed a set of titanium dome tweeters with custom made backing plates that look great and sound even better.
    The linear turntable has a music search feature that allows for one to select the specific track or order of tracks to be played on vinyl LPs.
    The amplifier is a high-output, high efficiency toroidal transformer with large filter caps. It features a real-time specturm analyzer display. Output is 100 watts per channel with ultra-low harmonic distortion. There are multi-pin DIN connections for the AFBS speakers on set A. Set B is a standard wire jacks for 8 ohm speakers. Signal to Noise is 110 db.
    The pre-amp has a 7 band graphic EQ for precise tonal control. A DSL system circuit is included for a deeper low end if desired.
    When the V-1200 system was first offered, it featured a DX-770 CD player (included - not shown). As shown in the video, the DX-1200 is used as that is what AIWA wanted for the V-1200 system and included the little red color patch near the power switch.
    Components list: DX-770 CD player, DX-1200 CD Player, TX-80 Stereo Tuner, LX-120 Stereo Turntable, RK-C125AF Remote Control Unit/Audio Rack, BX-120H Stereo Power Amplifier, GX-120 Stereo Pre-Amplifier, FX-A120 Auto Sorting Stereo Double Cassette Deck, SX-E12 AFBS Stereo Speaker System. SR-C5 Sorting Cartridge (2). All original owners manuals (ex. DX-1200)

    Only "selected" customers could afford such flagships back in '85, because their price was around 3000 DM (Germany) and if i remember correctly, there was a model that cost ~3995DM. Every time i entered the dark room where these wonders were stored, i felt like entering a Cylon Base from the Galactica Movie.

    I bought this system brand new when I lived in Hong Kong. I wish I still had it! Yours is just beautiful in immaculate condition! This is the original made in Japan stuff unlike the junk you find today.

    Lovely system and well done on the refurb. I have refurbed my system which is exactly the same as this. The SX-E12 speakers had one of the tweeters blown, but I replaced it behind the original silver tweeter covers to keep the look original. Great little system though. The FX-A120 multi sorting cassette deck was a bit of a nightmare to add new belts but thankfully its running fine again now. Enjoy!

    I bought one without the CD player (too new for me at time) from PX on Okinawa back in 1985. I loved the fact I could load it up with mix tapes and not have to touch it for hours. I could even tell it to play the songs in any order I wanted on the 5 cassettes. The single deck had another feature I loved. I didn't have to worry about running out of tape on one side while recording. It has an end tape sensor and would flip sides fast enough to continue recording with very little audible interruption. I think less then 1/10th of a second. Turntable was another phenomenal feature. I wish I still had the system.

    I bought this system from Sharper Image. Was an awesome system for the time. Linear tracking turntable, cd player double cassette player with the cassette charger and the square speaker drivers ❤. Miss those days!

      It took 5 years to put this together as some of it is near "unobtainium". I am considering selling it. I hobby sell on Ebay at "phrier".

    I have the gx-120 and it is a wonder but it was difficult for me to make some repairs to the amplifier and the equalizer and a technician took a tweeter to repair and never returned it to me that and missing a tweeter to a horn is very beautiful aesthetically and has a sound and clean.

    Knew something was off on the speakers. The tweeters look like something from the JBL line of speakers from the 90's.

      The rubber belts and idler tires. The belts in the turn table, cd player and tape deck will need to be replaced.
      Electronics need to be used. Turn it on and use it. Oxidation happens. Eventually the capacitors will need replacement.
      These sets are somewhat rare to find. Keep it all together and enjoy it.

      @@bradcrabtree9276 I turned it on yesterday and everything seems ok but the CD player won't turn on I guess the flexible cables need to be replaced as well. Mine has no turn tables set on it, the cassette player on the left won't eject as well. It's going to be my weekend project for sure, thanks for the reply.

      @@bradcrabtree9276 Hey brad, i recently took in free a mini system consisting of BX-770, GX-770, FX-A770 etc. Seemingly a slightly less expensive setup than this and am having a hellish time replacing the belts on the cassette deck, can't get the timing right. Anyway, the only thing missing was the 5 tape holder/magazine. Do you know anything about my particular system and/or where to find a magazine? Nice system, btw, wish mine was working as well!

      @@scottdee3241 Your system is basically the bare bones (missing CD, tuner, turntable and speakers) of the following years 1986 V7700 system. It replaced the 1985 V1200.

  • @JOT381
    @JOT381 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same but with the FX-R80 single deck. It looks like you have updated the tweeters on the SX-E12 speakers?

    • @bradcrabtree9276
      @bradcrabtree9276  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Both tweeters were fried. I found some that I felt were an upgrade and still worked within the size limits and overall look of the speakers. I kept the original ones just to hand down to future owners. The original has a large, heavy motor on the back. However, they were manufactured right to square front grills and it was not possible to use the front square grill with a modern tweeter behind it.
