  • Stance has a popular concept of precision. Actually, Wing Chun is famous for its precise structure and shapes. It's good to work on being precise and holding a specific shape when you're training. However, this is a beginner concept. As you get more advanced, you will notice that you do not need to hold a precise shape to be able to execute a fast and powerful technique.
Today's video is to show you another side of the stance concept of precision. Maybe you will break some paradigms with it. What do you think?
Also, I have just released an ebook called The Path of a Warrior. In this ebook, I will share with you my steps in my Martial Arts life and how I did to overcome my challenges. You also get some extra tips on my Wing Chun method of learning and teaching. Check it out: www.adamchanku...

Many thanks, Sifu Adam, for this !
In my opinion, a perfect structure, in any martial arts, is to teach beginners to understand the fundamentals of the art, as well as unlocking, adjusting their body mechanics to fit a fighting scenario. But eventually, when the body is conditioned enough, the inner body movement flows have been unlocked via structure training, one does not need to strictly follow the technical aspect to throw a powerful strike.
Many of my friends, who are very talented in combat sports, got stucked in this situation. They spend too much time on perfecting their techniques, while theirs are already reach a pretty high level of Gong Li, instead of focusing on other aspects like strategy or feints, etc. Such a waste !

Training structure is super boring. You first have to understand how to stand while relaxed. Here's how I do it.
    1) Stand normally. Take note of how you feel while standing normally.
    2) As you breathe out deliberately relax 99 percent. If you relax 100 percent, you collapse. Relax to the point where you can barely stand. Your flesh should feel like it's hanging off your bones.
    3) Breathe in again, and go back to your normal state.
    4) repeat step 2 again to deliberately relax. If done correctly, your legs should feel heavy everytime you breathe out. Relaxing into the ground is the basics of rooting.
    5) Other things you can include is pushing your head to the sky while sinking the bottom half, and reverse breathing.
    6) Once you can get past this step you can add movements from any martial arts. Start slow. Think Tao Chi slow. If you move too fast while you're still new at this, you lose the rooting quality.

Excellent video, thank you.. a good reflection on the common concept of aligning, it is a difficult skill to master and requires years of training.

Wonderful, like in Baguazhang, finding balance in a state of unbalance. I love experimenting with this principle.

Good afternoon. I really appreciate you videos, especially the ones with Steve. Ask Steve about 3rd leg. Jessie and Ed didn't use it. Dave and Fook did. Sid used Sid stuff. Again, thanks , your're a great teacher.

I love how Adam refers to the Matrix for plugging in and knowing how to fly a helicopter... any other person would use that comparison to plug in and know kung-fu, but Adam... well he already knows that so he moves to the next best thing xD

Rooting is the ability to accept and redirecting incoming force to the ground。 However this a static structure, a beginners concept. A dynamic structure is the real skill concept.

If you notice when you round your scapula your arm structure is automatically there after you train for a while you naturally do this.

Hello, Adam. Forgive me, the question might seem irrelevant, but how would you advise to close the gap against a boxer? They just jump back/sidestep/time me. Most of the people in my country train boxing/striking, so I have to face these guys in the street. I've watched your closing series on the web site.

Yup, plus in a real fight you may not be able to align perfect structure.
