I put a dowel across the cage door for my budgie, she can sit comfortably on the bar. We say she's sitn on the porch. Look forward to more updates on yours.
That's a nice memory. We also had one lovebird called Lumi and it flew away last summer, we were so sad about it. 😔 We now decided to get another one and see will we be able to tame her. We will probably get her a friend soon because she seems to be missing her flock as she was for a long time with them (almost 2 years) . She became more relaxed around us so we also keep her cage open during the day and she roams around freely and seems to be happy about it. 😃 Thanks a lot for following us.
She seems super cute, and the taming process is amazing! Taming birds can be really hard, especially if there’s only one, I recommend getting her a partner of the same sex or opposite gender to help with her loneliness if you guys are going to be away from her for a while. And make sure not to add any coconut huts or any dark enclosed place so they don’t breed! 😊 And make sure to get a bigger cage, even if it’s a pair they still need plenty of space and you can find good flight cages on sites like Amazon that are high quality and go for less than 150$! Bigger is always better for your birds after all, and there is no harm in giving them a large enclosure with enough horizontal space for them to fly around in comfortably.
Thank you so much. 😃 Well, from our experience, it seems that it's easier to tame one bird that two of them, because they usually bond in some way and that's why they don't let anyone close. If you have one bird you can give her all free time that you have and it will become tamed sooner. Yes, we are planning to give her a partner soon because she seems to be calling for her friends from old flock and we think she will be happier to have someone of her kind in the house. 😁 We currently don't have money to buy a bigger cage, but we keep her cage open during the day and she can fly whenever she wants. Today she spent most of the time sitting on the TV snd looking at us. 😂 Thanks a lot for your advices. 😃

No you can't , once you get 2 together , they will never bond with you , they bond with each other. If you wanted a bird you could hold and play with , you should have only gotten one. I know , I have had birds all my life and I had a Love Bird for 20 years !!! I made the mistake of getting 2 when I really knew nothing about birds. I could never hold them and had to leave them in their cage all the time ( they had each other for company ) but I ended up selling them because I realized I made a mistake by getting 2.....
@@lauraquaresimo2424Getting two actually helps with their mental health. If you work or have school, they won't be alone. And even then they both can still bond with you.
@aynur373 They usually come inside by themselves when they are hungry. 😃 Just put some food inside so that they can see and hear the sound of seeds, and they'll immediately come check it out. 🙂
Great video ❤ It shows you respect her and take the process on her terms, not forcing. Did you have other birds in a room so she could hear them? I have, and it seems my bird only want to "communicate" with them.. 😮 Should I keep him in a room where he can't hear them, or not? He's totally afraid of me and very unsettled. I feel very bad for him and want him to feel safe. I never tried to grab him and only put my hand in the cage to clean it and change water etc.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. No, we didn't have any other birds in the house at the beginning but later we did and we also noticed that she wanted to spend more time with birds than with us (logically 😂). We are currently having another new lovebird and everything went fine until we got a cockatiel. At first she was afraid but I would hold whole cage in my lap and talk to her and touch the cage, eventually she felt more relaxed around me. I noticed that when it's hungry in the morning, it's easy to try and give her food from hand or those "bird sweets" from pet shop, I wouldn't put seeds in her cage over night and in the morning the first thing for me to do was to offer her food. It took almost half an hour before she approached my hand and started to eat. 😃 I also petted her a couple of times while she was eating, she tried to bite me first but it didn't hurt a lot, it's like she was trying to see if my finger will attack her . 😂 Anyways, we got a baby cockatiel a few days ago and now she seems to be bonding with it, she screams, sings, flaps her wings and tries to enter her cage and she completely ignores when I try to feed her from hand. 😅 Looks like if you want a bird to bond only with you, then it's best not to get another bird. But we all know that they probably like bird company more than ours.
Tried to hold her in hand as you suggest and she made my thumb pain like hell .. Very aggressive bite ... so I return her back to cage.. I have a pair with me yellow with orange head

Couples are harder to tame. You can try separating them into 2 cages and see if male or female will act different when they are alone, maybe she will eventually allow you to touch her. But it'll probably be harder as they were together as a couple.
@@DzanaDeni i don’t know how to hold one love bird since they’re difficult and they fly a lot and their bite is strong, i also don’t have a bond with any of them
Google says it's aqua turquoise, but we aren't sure. 😁 Dutch blue is also similar, but we really aren't sure as our lovebird's head is grey on behind and not green like others lovebirds heads.
@@DzanaDeni She's stunning. The grey on her head may come from hybrid ancestor: Agapornis roseicollis X A. personata ? I inherited a 4 yo untamed lovebird and joined FB groups about lovebirds. Yeah, we also thought that it might be because of a personata ancestor. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. 😀😀 We hope your bird will live a long and happy life. ❤️❤️
Is your bird fully flighted or its wings are clipped? I got my lovebird more than a month now, still trying to hand tame her but she seems really fearful and shy. So far, the progress I have with her after a month is that she knows how to get in and out of her cage during the day. I just noticed this week, so I've been doing this for a few days - I open her cage first thing in the morning after feeding her then she comes back to it at the end of the day. I'm still in the 'earning her trust' stage right now I guess. I've tried putting my hands on and in the cage so she'll get used to it for a month already. Tried offering food thru hand in the morning too (yet doesn't even come close a bit haha). I didn't want to bore her inside the cage too and not get some exercise since its been more than a month now, that's why when i discovered her get out of her cage one time yet returned back later that day.. I decided to let her do that from then (just this week as I've said). Do you have any tips?? I've seen you hold her in this vid, wrapped in a towel. Do you think i can do that? Im afraid if i do, i might lose her trust since she doesn't seem to trust my hand yet. (she did bite my dad one time, when she got out and he catched her back to put her back in the cage) so... Would really love to hear your advice
And my lovebird is fully flighted. Im giving it time first to see if she can be hand tamed, and see if i should be clipping her wings or not. Hoping i don't have to tho!
Hello Audrey. Sorry for late answer. No, we didnt't clip Dundee's wings. She also flies around the house when she wants, as her cage is open all day. Now she usually spends time on a wooden stand that we made. She also doesn't come close to us and she eats from our hand only if she is veeeery hungry and after we spend an hour sitting next to her with seeds in open hand. 🤣 She is an older female, 2 - 3 years old and she had babies before, so she isn't really that young to be easily tamed. Yes, we hold her like that in a towel sometimes and she stays calm, doesn't try to wiggle out. You can try doing that and touch her gently to show your bird that you are not a danger. Try to give her some favorite fruit or dandelion leaves when you hold her and see if she will eat. Honestly, we don't try too much to hand tame Dundee as we have many obligations around the house and work, we also have a 3 year old daughter so we can't spend a lot of time taming her, but we love when she is free and exploring around the house. Yes, it would be great to have her sit on our shoulder and similar things, but we hope it will come naturally after some time. 🙂
I've had my lovebird for 7 years since this past August. He was rescued from a sidewalk in NYC. Similarly to this video, he would protest when I went near the cage. I also let him out all day and he would spend the majority of his time preening and hanging out around the house. I was also very wary of grabbing him and losing trust; he was very fearful of hands. Soon, he began to land on top of my head or feet which he would preen for long periods of time. But what really made him begin to gain trust was when I began singing to him. I would sit outside his cage and sing which led to his own original song. Fast forward 7 years later, and I sing every to him every night when I put him to bed. Seeing this video, makes me regret not trying the towel method shown to pet him. It did take a long time for him to become tame and allow me to pet him as he was probably older as well. Today, he is a lap bird and a mama's boy who wants to spend all day getting scritches. It will take time, but it's worth it. I recommend playing music all day near his cage (at a low volume) especially when you leave the house and he's alone. I also play music, dance and create a happy environment. Speak softly and animated when greeting him and make a habit of saying his/her name very happily when nearby. Birds like to mimic, so I suggest to eat something bird friendly like oatmeal that you can offer and share. My lovebird eats from my breakfast bowl every morning. Hope this helps!
@@AudreyBebz I just replied above. I have never clipped my lovebird's wings. I don't recommend it for all the reasons usually stated. During the pandemic, I ran across many articles of bird owners suddenly dealing with untame birds when their wings grew back. So it seems, when you clip a bird's wings, they may seem tame, but it might be because they are dependent on you entirely. Over the pandemic, my lovebird did the opposite and became more tame and we grew extremely close. When he flies to me,I know for certain it's because he trusts me and wants to spend time with me. I also recommend making a habit of affectionately looking at your lovebird in the eyes as you speak softly and say his/her name. Greet very excitedly. They react to the dynamic created by your energy. Visualize all the affection you have for the lovebird, and channel that when approaching or when you're nearby. You'll see before you know it, the bird will want to be near you. I never relied on treats since I wanted him to come to me by choice. But sharing a healthy meal that you'll eat regularly, is a good option as mentioned below.
@@camiliafuentes3509thank you so much for your insight! Thats very comforting and encouraging. Sorry it took a long time before i got to read your reply. But this has been a very great encouragement!
@@DzanaDeni I recommend trying to set up a bedtime routine so you can coax the bird to either go inside on its own at a set time or get used to being put in the cage. I noticed my lovebird would eat much less when I closed the door after he went in when I first rescued him since he feared not being able to come out. Kudos for sharing knowledge and many thanks for giving your little one a second chance in a forever home.

@@DzanaDenimine has been here 6 days and is still completely scared. I think these things varies a lot from one bird to the next, there is not one solution that fits all.
You are right. We are currently having a new bird and it takes longer than with this one from video. 😃
i have a lovebird couple i got a week ago and the male is really aggressive i never touched him everytime i put my finger he bites, his wife is so afraid and keeps flying in the cage. i have no idea what to do
Couples are harder to tame. You can try separating them into 2 cages and see if male or female will act different when they are alone, maybe she will eventually allow you to touch her. But it'll probably be harder as they were together as a couple.
@@DzanaDeni i don’t know how to hold one love bird since they’re difficult and they fly a lot and their bite is strong, i also don’t have a bond with any of them
What is this colour called
Google says it's aqua turquoise, but we aren't sure. 😁 Dutch blue is also similar, but we really aren't sure as our lovebird's head is grey on behind and not green like others lovebirds heads.
@@DzanaDeni She's stunning. The grey on her head may come from hybrid ancestor: Agapornis roseicollis X A. personata ?
I inherited a 4 yo untamed lovebird and joined FB groups about lovebirds. If you share a picture, people will comment the answer.
My lovebird will fear hands forever... He lands on a stick or a bowl of food though.
Keep millet only as a treat (not in her cage) she will come to you.
I also follow the YT account BirdTricks 👌🏻
Yeah, we also thought that it might be because of a personata ancestor. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. 😀😀 We hope your bird will live a long and happy life. ❤️❤️
My lovebird looks lik yours a little
Is your bird fully flighted or its wings are clipped?
I think it’s going take a lot cause I have 4😢😢
How do you get the love bird back inside the cage for night time :)
We leave her cage open and she comes inside to eat when she gets hungry, then we close the cage door. 😀
They come back to sleep
@@DzanaDeni I recommend trying to set up a bedtime routine so you can coax the bird to either go inside on its own at a set time or get used to being put in the cage. I noticed my lovebird would eat much less when I closed the door after he went in when I first rescued him since he feared not being able to come out. Kudos for sharing knowledge and many thanks for giving your little one a second chance in a forever home.
FYI that cage is way too small for that Love Bird .....I had a Peach Faced Love Bird for 20 years so I should know and I also have had many other birds in my life . Maybe a Slightly larger cage , they love to climb and play , and need room , I'm not saying buy one of those HUGE cages , just one somewhat bigger then that one........
Hi, so you sound purity knowledgeable about lovebirds, but I wanted to ask you something, I found a 7-month-old lovebird, but I am afraid that they might not be tamable, given that they are a couple and they are relatively old (7-months) so what do you think?
@@abdouu_1they could be, but if theyre not trained it will be very hard as they are older & bonded
It's only for the quarantine period. You need to keep it separate from the other birds the first 4-5 weeks in case of diseases.
My guy isn't scared of my but doesn't want go be touched
Please get him a properly sized cage
Not everyone can afford a huge ahh cage bro💀
In this situation, it's best to keep your bird outside it more than usual.
Bro I have the same colour bird😅
That's great. 😁😁
