In college my man Walt used to say, "my cousin Diamond D is going to come down here for a show, I'll introduce you to him." I'm like, "yea right and I'm the Easter Bunny." A few weeks later a Range Rover pulls up and the passenger side door opens up and sitting there is Diamond D! I was buggin, D was mad cool, he had a huge smile on his face and he gave me a pound before they took off. I must have stood there for a few minutes thinking, "did that just happen?"
+Various Topics that's a cool story, man...I loved this dude's album when it came out "Stunts, Blunts, and Hip Hop"...I listened to that tape every day for months, man...that video he did with Anthony Mason was dope "Best Kept Secret"...loved that beat
Jake B "Take it from Diamond/It's like mountain climbing/When it comes to rhymin/you gotta put your time in." That's in my top 3 punch lines of all time!
+gorillas213 "Take it from Diamond / It's like mountain climbing / when it comes to rhyming / you gotta put your time in." Probably in my top 3 all time favorite punch lines. This cat was ill wit it!
+Various Topics Fuck yeah! “I creep like a theif no doubt the man's swift, I'm more magnificent than Lee Vancliff, you stand stiff, got the nerve to make ya man riff, ya know where to run, and start flaking like dandruff"
this is the guy( him , dj quik & large pro) that got me into making beats back in my teen years..young producers dont know how good they have it..i used to make loop tapes on double deck tape decks..take one hr of recording a loop over & over to get a 5 min insturmental
Diamond is definitely one of my influences. The "Stunts" album changed the way I made beats in my head back then. Way before I had equipment. True Pioneer. Keep em coming. Peace...Netm8kr
"Take it from Diamond / It's like mountain climbing / when it comes to rhyming / you gotta put your time in." Probably in my top 3 all time favorite punch lines. Diamond had the ILL punchlines yo!
Props to Diamond D. He needs to drop some more of those old school gritty beats he was going while he is still with us. We don't need to let the powers of copywrite and modern trends hold this genius down.
That SESAME STREET DISCO break was a surprise milestone. What's even more amazing was when I heard PINKY RING by WU TANG,that sample was from SESAME STREET as well from channel 13 from back in the day.
Ha,ha.yeah Bo Go..that was the Magic moment right there.I think he was on The Electric Company from back in the day, too!!!By the way..check out my You Tube at ''DAVID RADICALS CINEMA ART'',and let me know what you think.Your gonna be really surprised!!!
Shout out to Diamond D, fantastic emcee and producer, been listing to him since 95 when he did cuts on KRS-1 self titled album which led me too check out his whole discography.
Hey Izaq. I created the series. Unfortunately, we don't have an exact schedule of upcoming people but we generally release the vids every other Wednesday. Thanks for watching.
I remember him playing in the bohannon club Berlin. He was banging the 45's! and the crowd standing around like "who the fuck ist this?". I was 17 and now 5 years later i finally get the chance to have a taste of his collection.
I used to trek to the Wiz and Crazy Eddie record stores on 3rd Avenue when I was a little dude as well. I was comin' from Harlem, over the 145th Street Bridge. At that point though, I was coppin' early Funky 4 Plus One More, Treacherous 3, Spoonie G and Grandmaster Flash and the furious 5 twelve inches. It's possible I may have ran into dude back then.
That Electric Prunes joint is serious business. They have 2 joints that David Axelrod had his hands on. If you see them don't even hesitate to grab them. This was a great episode.
When I 1st heard "sally got a 1 track mind" I RUSHED to the store and copped 2 MAXISINGLES of them joints ASAP yo! but when I heard "yo thats that.." on the B side? ahhhhhhhhhhhh man! I remember saving up all my bread to cop stunts blunts and hip hop...changed my life...
Listening at Diamond D talk you tell he will be old and grey and still getting his fingers dusty. These are the dudes i respect in the game. He is a student. A true student of the artform. I bet he doesnt own any kind of music software program/fruityloops.
Would love to find that instrumental that starts at 7:41. The sax on that is dope. Fellow jazz heads help me out. Great video btw! Shoutouts to Diamond D, great dude from a great era in hip-hop that appreciated the music that came before them.
