Ms. Jackson is the main reason I started listening to hip hop and music in general at the age of 9. This was my jam, and it still hits hard like the first day.
Outkast is a group where my appreciation for them seems to only grow over time, and the point you make w Strawberry Letter 23 is a great example of why. I had always heard the “Here Comes the Bride” theme in Ms. Jackson, and its turn to the minor key by overshooting the root when it lands and it, and got how that was meant to reinforce the lyrical idea of the song (the Big Boi vs in particular), but never picked up on the idea that it was also borrowing on the letters theme of Strawberry as the musical device that represents the Andre verse (turning what was once a love letter of a song into an apology is a brilliant musical representation of what’s going on.) Just a brilliant insight that shows how the song is even more brilliant than I thought…
I liked the kickball analogy! That's a great way of looking at different keys that I've never considered before!! Changed my perception of it and hopefully it'll make it easier to confront😂
Thank you for that gem about Strawberry Letter 23! I always thought they messed up on the song title back then and they just released it and let it go.
The kind of genius that he just Displayed is just not in today's music. And I'm not just talking about rap, I'm talking about music period. Today's biggest music stars make records but they're more known for their love life or drama in their life. I can only Name one Taylor Swift record, shake it off and that's because they played it to death when it was out. But she's very rich and very famous and sells out arenas all around the world. Today's music just doesn't have the same quality and genius that I used to have🤷🏿
At the same time I can almost hear a reflection of "Sylvias Mother" by Dr Hook (Lyrics by Shel Silverstein) in the form of a dialog between the narrator and the mother.
Do a video on Shuggie and his dad. You can tie in Country Girl and all the other "Tramp" sampling songs out there too. It will be an epic rabbit hole video. 😂

Big things pop off only after 4 a.m. Jay-Z can confirm that statement; he made a whole album at 4:44 haha
You're a Wizard 🥸 The Cameo remix made me want to be a turntablist just so I can bite your mix. 🍓 Letter though 🤯🤯🤯
Hearing Ms. Jackson and Strawberry Letter 23 come together like that was pure magic
I went and grabbed my bass to jam along. that mash was great!
Straight heat!

9? Dang. You are making me feel old. Lol
As much as I love hip-hop from NYC, Outkast is incredible. So skillful, creative, and unique. One of the best duos ever!
So this is how we're getting my weekend started... I'm here for it! 👍🏾

Just learned about relative minors/majors in my guitar lesson recently. What great timing!
The way you connected these songs, I never would've guessed that's what we had with Ms. Jackson. But you tend to do that, blowing my mind.
12:44 I don't think we're allowed to that anymore after what happened this year

holy hell! When you played that Mendelssohn's March snippet it immediately clicked! And I love the song to death and never thought about it!
Stankonia is a modern day funk album
Anything Outkast, I'll immediately click on

That was one hell of a jam at the end there brother. I don't think I can listen to it the same way ever again.

At the same time I can almost hear a reflection of "Sylvias Mother" by Dr Hook (Lyrics by Shel Silverstein) in the form of a dialog between the narrator and the mother.

That Watts Funky comp of Johnny Otis and Friends is the truth!
When I first heard the song thought it was Cameo...then a Cameo rip off...now I'm cool
I thought that Candy mashup was dope!!
Greatest Hip-Hop group of all time!!!! In my humble opinion.
What a cool episode! And that mash-up at the end is BANGIN'!!!
If you do any more OutKast or organized songs . Def holla at Preston Scott he played bass on a lot of organized records . He is the truth
YOOOO that mix with Strawberry Letter 23!!!!
Sitting here wondering if he'll do something Idlewild related too. Another great video, as usual.
They use the TLC waterfalls drums you forgot to mention that they produce that song too
This breakdown exposes how genius this song was all along.
I am four eels.
Love the basketball team modes analogy, Brandon. :)
That analogy worked
I knew I’d get there! 😂😂
Watchin here right after the patreon version!
I started a DJ set back in the day with Hey Ya, to quickly realize that mixing anything with that record which is at like 11/17th's is impossible!!
