As an experienced knitter, that knit vest is 100% handmade. 🙌🏼 if you buy some wool wash, it can help to soften the wool a bit. Eucalan is my go to. Soak in lukewarm water ~30 mins and lay flat to dry (on a bed or something is perfect).

Totally agree with you! It fits so well as is & once you start tweaking you can accidentally ruin it! Loafers & a denim jacket thrown on top would be gorgeous

Carrie ... here's a helpful tip for thrifting when you're "on the go" ---- some years ago my hubs and I took his parents to England for a couple of weeks and took them all around --- we all had such a good time. About a week in London, a cottage in the Cotswolds as a base for a week, a few proper British hotels ....
Anyway, my mother-in-law, who is a teeny-tiny little woman (has a hard time breaking 100 lbs on a good day) decided she didn't want to lug all her luggage back home. She boxed up her dirty laundry (she'd packed pretty thoroughly and had purchased a few items, so she had plenty of clothes to wear) and a few souvenirs (she buys a little something for EVERYone) and MAILED it back home!!! Her luggage was oodles lighter, the cost wasn't even as much as checking an extra bag and it took a little longer, but her stuff was dropped off on her front porch when she got home. Genius.
The brown polka dot dress is giving fall Minnie Mouse vibes and would be amazing for a fall Disney trip!
Traid is probably the 'trendiest' charity shop chain in London, and I'm assuming there was so much summer stuff in there because you caught them on a big sale week - they do pretty regular sale periods where pretty much everything is £3-4, often to clear out the backlog! I've found some gems in there!
take the brown dress to a tailor and they can fix the neckline for real cheap! looks amazing!

Idk if you have yet, but you totally need to go thrifting in downtown Ventura!! It’s basically a whole street of thrift shops, vintage shops, charity shops, etc. and it’s so much fun!! I went a few months ago and found so many cute things 😊

Making me nostalgic! I was stationed in England for 2.5 years and I loved hitting the charity shops!
For the brown dress, try taking a big safety pin and bunching it in the middle of the bust. Kind of cinch it down a bit so it's more of that sweetheart neckline. Hopefully that makes sense and works. I love the idea of getting things tailored but I NEVER get around to actually doing it.

Soooo I've been looking for a winter coat for months & couldn't find anything that didn't cost a fortune... so after binge watching every single one if your thrifting videos I finally went thrift shopping for the first time in forever & found the most amazing GEM of a wool coat (for so cheap!!!) as soon as I stepped foot in the store 😍 I've always thought thrift stores in New Zealand kind of suck but I think I may have been converted now ❤️

When I was in London, I had a lot of luck in Shoreditch and Dalston when it came to thrifting/charity shops. Shoreditch was definitely more curated/themed/cool, but Dalston had some classic American thrifting vibes (they also had a Traid but they weren't open yet when I went).

The cheapest charity shops I find are Barnardos and also cancer research, love from the uk 🇬🇧 and yes you have to literally go to 10 charity shops to find the goods , root like mad, look through all racks and all sizes and be prepared to look at mens section also ✌🏻

That red dress is GORGEOUS on you, and it actually gives me late '40s / early '50s vibes (even though I know it's much newer than that). Don't alter it!
If you wore that with your hair (which is long and very versatile, style-wise) done in a '40s or '50s style, it would be amazing. And if you find a good photographer, you could have a fun vintage-style photo shoot.

Hi Carrie, I don't comment often, but wanted to say I absolutely love following you and you are an inspiration. I'm in UK and have absolutely loved watching your trip here. I have SO MANY thrifted pieces that are Mark's & Spencer's 😁 I love a full button through 90's dress like the red one you found. I don't think the neck line is granny looking. You look gorgeous in it. I accessorise mine with lots of necklaces and grunge it up with Dr Martens and a denim jacket. A waistcoat for a real 90's feel would look cute too. Bea ❤

Charity Shopping has definitely improved over here but it’s nothing like we see in the US.

London charity shops are very different to a lot of other places in the UK. I used to find quirkier pieces when I lived there, but they’re often very picked over, especially in the trendier areas like Notting Hill, Brick Lane and Camden, and the good stuff is likely to end up being sold at a higher price in a vintage shop. Since I’ve moved to small town Cornwall, the charity shops have completely blown me away. They’re so well stocked they have to turn donations away. Amazing if you like a bit of a grandmacore/cottagecore vibe too.

My first thought too. Maybe too warm for LA but would be so so pretty! Also you can always just get a tailor to make skirts out of dresses that fit weird on top.

Lol when you were appreciating M&S, actually so true, they are very trustworthy for well made clothes (mostly old ladyish but like in a quality way - great for basics), stuff like F&F is another supermarket brand but I often see ppl buying Target clothes in those videos so I guess it’s not that different. Also the Miss Honey dress is gorgeous and there’s nothing wrong with the neckline tbh!

If the brown polkadot dress has a facing you can gather that slightly with thread and needle so that the dress fits better and not be so gape-y.
I love the plaid dress! Altering the waist could be an option, but maybe even leaving it and adding a belt could work!

Loved the video! Next time you come to the the UK you should try a vintage kilo sale I went recently and found some bargains
Before you take the brown dress to a tailor, I'd try this: It looks like there's a single stitch going down the center of the bodice (gathering it). I'd remove that stitch then sew up that same line with a needle and thread (you can easily do it by hand). Stitch all the way from the waist band to the top and use relatively large stitches. Don't cut the thread or tie it off yet. Put the dress on and adjust that gather so that it fits you, then tie off the thread. It should only take about 15 minutes.

My opinions no one asked for: I would put a white button up shirt under the strawberry top and I would try using a belt to bring up the waist on the plaid dress before you go to alter it similarly to what people do when they hide sweaters to make them look cropped over top of dresses and skirts and such. Just to see 💕 luv you

The plaid drop waist dress is totally straight 90’s- looks like 1 I used to have.. and it’s hard to tell from the video but the extra fabric on the top of the polka dot dress might b intentional- kind of like a cowl neck sweater- like meant to be drapey... idk if that’s a word or not LOL.
