It’s really interesting watching actors working in the dawn of the last century. It must have been hard for silent movie actors to transition to “talkies”. There was so Much physical exaggeration to communicate the story; which of course isn’t need in movies with sound. Thanks for posting this little gem.
@ Sally Koh... Lillian Gish said in an interview that movies should still be silent. Gish was in a couple of outrageous movies that were up on this media. With any luck they still may be.

DW Griffin had some racial angst. Birth of a Nation & this one showing his interest of life in a Jewish ghetto. Father of filmmaking in the silent era?? I don't know.
@@BroonParker No, certainly not (yet) ! 😁 But those very early one- or two- reelers were an important step in the development of the movies from primitive, quickly and cheaply made shorts towards extended works of accomplished art. At the time of the making of this movie there wasn't even artificial lighting by electric spotlights invented, these only came up by the end of WWI. They were filmed in broad daylight on stages with cardboard walls without cellings, thus the pictures always look flat without any atmospheric contrasts. Even the general idea of telling a dramatic story thru the medium of "moving pictures" ( and still without sound) was actually still a pretty new one by 1908 , maybe about half a decade old. Nethertheless threse shorts were important for the evolution of the movies to full-length feature films and to the artform of the 20th. century., as we know them today. Due to this they still deserve some historical interest. But this one is surely no awe-inspiring masterpiece! 😁

I love silent films! The movie was great especially the little girl.
Absolutely amazing how without words, the older movies can toy with your emotions better than the newer ones.
Maybe some silents. Not really this one, I'm afraid.
You can tell the scenes outside weren't actors. They really just filmed and people around were doing everyday work. Fascinating stuff 👌
Whatever D. W. was , He was a great director
