I go hunting for LaserDiscs and talk about random stuff. Feel free to skip through the video as I ramble about Roy Masters around the 1/3 mark. Didn’t edit this much.
I still have my Pioneer laser Disc player from the 80's and some of the Laser Disc I collected. However, I lost some of them as well as some comic books and figures when I lost my storage locker while I was taking care of my father.
LD is an analog medium. Only the sound is digital, and only on some discs. Do everyone a favor and ditch that LCD. Watch it on a real picture tube. (btw, yes! the reason it's unreadable is the LCD is digitizing and rescaling the image.)
When part 2 comes out you’ll see me watching it on a larger LCD tv and our old plasma. I didn’t have composite cables at the time of filming. And I don’t own a CRT unfortunately.
Laserdisc is an analog video format, so ofc it's going to look less defined and resolved on a digital display. You need to be watching that on a CRT, which you have enough room for up to a 13" at least if you have enough room for that phat player. Watching Laserdisc on an LCD makes as much sense as buying an EV car and charging it on the go using a Diesel generator mounted to the back. If you pick up a CRT for it, even with just composite, you won't regret it.
I also find it very funny that half of the comments on this video are about the fact that I used a LCD display instead of a CRT. Should have seen that coming but I found the tiny DVD player workaround very amusing at the time.
I use to repair these things and they are hard to set up and celebrate the laser. Nothing like doing cd players. I can still do them and need special equipment to get these things going. So don’t going messing about inside because your never get it back in line only if you know what your doing. Most players now would need a service. Because I can tell you the laser will not be in line and to its best now.
Trust me I don’t feel comfortable at all touching the insides of this thing. Worth too much. Thanks for watching!!! The video is getting a lot of traction :) I think the algorithm likes it in spite of it being 37 minutes
@@BasedAri just be careful because one day you might have to change the draw belt, etc. just don’t mess with the laser assembly. Just be careful cleaning it, etc. also capacitors can fail with age and can cause problems making you think there is something else wrong. Sometimes you might be best to look for a service manual on the net just in case for later if you do need to open it. I hope it gives you many more years of service.
This is fun bro but why go through the effort for laser disc if you aren’t gonna watch it on a good CRT or something I mean you do you but that is soul crushing
I love my laserdisc. My favorite is when I'm going through a stack of vinyl and there's a laserdisc hidden in the stack.
Believe me I’ve tried searching through numerous vinyl sections at thrift stores and came up empty. Thanks for watching!!

That’s awesome that you still have that stuff. I intend to keep my 360 for as long as I can (some day I will show my kids Black Ops 2…)

@@michaelmitchell8218 yup a re-cap is in order for atleast the power supply.
Pull it apart and replace any rubber belts, they return to oil after a few decades.
Thanks for the advice and thanks for watching!! I’m not great at repairing things and this seems to be a very valuable player though.

I don’t have a CRT. The one we had since I was a kid broke down in ~2015. Don’t really have the space (or funds?) for one
Thank you very much for watching by the way :) I will be making more of these
@@BasedAri I don’t blame you I wasn’t trying to hate trust I was just like aw man not on the portable dvd player
@@bennoismswe had to do what we had to do… just got it going on a plasma an LCD TV at the same time
hahaha, I thought I was the only one who immediately felt that sense of disgust at that tiny little digital screen. :D
