    There are so many issues our Veterans are dealing with that most people just don't understand.
    TBI-Traumatic Brain Injury
    PTSD-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
    MST-Military Sexual Trauma (both men & women)
    these are just 3 of a long list. I'm a Caregiver to an Army Medic Veteran. I go to our local VA at least 1-3 times a week. I see so many of our Veterans who are in programs trying to just learn to deal with everyday life and being a civilian again. It's harder than you think. I didn't understand how much our military men and women go through. It's incredible! I'm honored to just be able to have some small part in helping each person I can.
    The problem I find, is a lot of people don't know the programs are there or end up on a waiting list. What's even worse are the ones I've seen turned away because they don't qualify for the program. (that's really f'd up) If a person seeks help and gets turned away....ugh! we are losing 22-23 Veterans EVERY SINGLE DAY to SUICIDE!

      I deal with PTSD because of a bad car crash in which I almost lost my life, and it affects your daily life in a major way. I, luckily, have gotten it somewhat under control, but every time the car swerves a little or hits the brakes a little too fast or another car gets slightly too close, I, without realizing it, grip my seatbelt and tuck my legs up and my head in and hold my breath. I can’t even drive. It’s definitely gotten better though, I used to not be able to cross a suburb street or even ride in a car without panic attacks. Basically, my point is, this is a huge comment, because these things are debilitating and major issues. Barely any of the comment section is acknowledging this either. We need to support veterans dealing with these illnesses to help them live their best life. Thanks for the reality check. :^)
      edit: that’s also really messed up about people not “qualifying” for the program

    wow that was a powerful line. glad to see military soldiers talk about things from the perspective of the "other side"... which is the civilians they occupied. I have a Iraqi friend who lost her leg when she was a kid from a bomb that went off near her house.... the bomb was from the U.S military....

Thank you sooo much for everything that you have done. I really want to say that I can sympathize with you strong, brave, and beautiful people. But I really can't, and I really can't stress how much I want to appreciate you and all those who have served and those who have died. I thank you so much, ans I am very very proud. Someday I hope to make someone else that proud, whether I go to combat or to an office building. I just want to know how much I love every single one of you guys. And it pains me to see people being cast away by society after coming back from something that society could never understand. I wish that veterans would wear their hats everyday so I could talk to them when I meet them. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! ♥️

    I worked at a place that helps soldiers in Israel with rehab and issues related to PTSD and I think that PTSD is one of the most traumatic things that a person can go through. People come back from fighting overseas and they've lost hands or arms or legs but if you have PTSD, you lose your mind and there's no prosthetic for that

    These people are heroes. I don't really care what they have to say or if they think they aren't heroes. They are. They're the bravest men and women in this country and they risk life and limb to protect us, and they lose that gamble far more often than anyone would like. God bless these people and every other veteran out there.
    And thanks to Buzzfeed for giving them a platform to say these things. It's rare that I ever agree with Buzzfeed, but I'm glad that we can find common ground when it comes to respecting and helping our veterans.

    • @antonrueda1044
      @antonrueda1044 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The man that said he isn't a hero thinks that because he has killed someone for his country. He's a hero to this country and just this country. Think of it this way. If a man is in a position were he has to choose to either kill his daughter or some innocent man and he killed that man to save his daughter,the daughter would see him as a hero. But that's only to her. He had to kill an innocent man. A man with his own family and loved ones and he just took everything from him. The daughter would see him as a hero but the loved ones of the man he killed wouldn't. He's not "a" hero, he's his daughters hero. If you're the daughter of the man that had been killed, would you see the man that saved his own daughter by your father as a hero? I think this is what he means and what other veterans mean when they say they aren't hero's.

    • @Pierce456Go
      @Pierce456Go 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hero is a subjective term. For example Americans may see there soldiers as "heroes" and the "enemies" as evil, but it is the complete opposite in the "enemies" country. The so called "enemies" are defending their country and families and people and our troops are killing them. Everything anyone experiences due to involvement of any kind in the army is experienced the same way by the people of another country. They are all humans as well.

    I was a Vietnam era Army medic. All these years later, I still get emotional about the ones I couldn't save. You're absolutely correct in saying we're not heroes; we were just doing what we were trained to do, and, for me, it was an honor to serve my country. Bryan Miller you are genuinely disgusting. Putting people down because they chose to save animals lives instead of murder other actual humans and call it "protection" true protection wouldn't require fighting and loss of lives. We wouldn't need to sacrifice so, so many lives if countries and governments truly protected us by making treaties, or just not fighting period, if they were smart enough to learn all things can be accomplished with peace and violence isn't necessary. You keep sitting there with your SJW undies pulled nice and tight, telling yourself you're a good person because even though you are putting tens of thousands of people down, you are "defending" a couple others.
