watching this 7 years later! i’ve been a catcher all my life but now it’s 2021 and i haven’t been able to play since 2019. i start next week so i’m glad i saw this!
This helped me A LOT. I used all of your tips and now i feel like i'm doing way better at catching. I used the tagging technique and got 4 people out and used the bunting technique and got 2 people out. Thanks! :)
im a catcher and its really hard sometimes but it is always worth it, i love being a catcher and the funny thing is everything he said i do every practice and nothing was different from what i do i love catching and thank you for teaching all the of us and making us have pride in our catching skills.
This is my first year as catcher and I’m really nervous for our first game because I don’t want to let my team down it helped a lot but I still get confused but coach more likely gonna help me get to know it better
starting to become a full time catcher in my softball league and the L throwing technique is going to save my (and my teammates ) lives ! this is amazing!
An oldie but still a goodie. I still return to this video to remind me, as a coach, to work and perfect the basic skills. Please remember that blocking the plate without the ball is dangerous and illegal. Also, times have changed where the armbands with pitchlists have taken over.
This is my first game as a catcher too soo....i really hope this can help I really like this channel cause it helps me understand the game better cause I am new so thank you!♡
Im going to be a catcher tomorrow for the first time, I hope this helps. Our team will be missing 2 catchers and one of them is a star pitcher. Ill let you know if this helped
kiara bahena: please do reply coz i am waiting too whether it would be helpful to you too. In a month my team will have our game too. Cant wait from your feedback if this was helpful to you. thanks. 👌
First year catching and I found a true passion for it. I use to be a 2nd base man but they tried me out and I became good enough. This helped me a lot. I feel like it's going to give me confidence on the field. Thank you !
Gonna practice this been a catcher for 2 years and get multiple compliments from all the places we go to but I know I can become even better if I practiced more so this will be helpful.
I'm in a slow pitch league so some of the rules are a bit different but I've been watching your videos to improve my swinging, throwing, and hopefully being the catcher bc I haven't played for awhile. 😀 Good info, thanks.
I'm relatively new to the sport, and are traning hard to become Better! I have now played for 85 days, and will start to try being a catcher from tomorrow on! I Will become the best!
i haven’t played catcher in a while but when i did, i loved taking a little leap and hesitant/fake throw to the player leading off 3rd, they always ran back.
i step forward to and thsi really helps. if i could rate it i would give 5 out of 5 stars.Plus i have been a Cather since the start of my 10U team and this helps
I learned to get up on my "horse", you know slide to your feet like a baseball catcher with a runner on..I was able to work smoothly, throw down quick and block balls, I loved being a catcher... it was my spot!!!
I want to be a catcher and I’m almost done with my first season playing softball in 12U, I played when I was 7 but I quit. I really want to be a catcher, should I?
I think Catcher is more of a I WANT TO DO IT position than any other position in Baseball and Softball. YES. If you WANT IT you should go for it. Tell the Coaches I want to play Catcher and they will start playing you there to teach it to you. And if you change your mind ask to play at another position and they will try to teach you that. But I think because your instincts are telling you that you want to be a Catcher that you will like it there. Only the Pitcher and the Catcher get to touch the ball almost all game. Some positions might not touch it all game. It can be boring sometimes at other positions. But Catchers NEVER get a boring game.
Well 12U is usually the level they start having base stealing, all of a sudden the catcher becomes important. First off the catcher must be able to throw down to second base on the fly. If you cannot do that you probably ought to re-think playing catcher. It is not necessary to have a cannon arm and be able to throw like a rocket to 2B every time. (although that certainly helps.) But if you cannot even throw it down to second on the fly at all, the other teams will figure this out very soon and start stealing bases almost every pitch.
You are fighting against instinct. Pulling the head is naturally what people do. Overcome instinct with thought. Think to yourself something simple telling yourself to look down. Something like a COMMAND you give yourself. Like... if there was somebody vnext to you who would immediately say LOOK DOWN or BALL or anything and they are ordering your not to pull your head. Except it is you with the Command or Reminder. The more you hear yourself think it when it happens the sooner Looking Down instead of pulling you head will replace the instinct. You can also try psychological REWARDS for when you do it right... like the Pavlov's Dog Experiment. Give yourself a small candy every time you for it right. Like 1 Skittles. Or keep track in your head and if you did it right 5 times in the 1st inning give yourself 5 Skittles in the dugout. Or M&M's or Smarties whatever you like.
We don’t teach framing. It’s receiving. And to be quite less movement the better and only revive pitches from river to river. That’s old school framing. Reaching around. “Baseball” style is better and prove. With a bigger ball.
Proven. The last 4 years and our umpires like the non movement. Plus , you set up the umpire in questionable calls are strike if you only receive river to river not every pitch. And work to the plate umps zone.
In my high school, us girls didn't wear a helmut while playing softball. i never squatted behind the batter either. I just stood a distance behind the batter, where i wouldn’t get by her swing or bat fling. I was great as catcher and catching foul balls with the mitt.. the opposing team would always be out within a few minutes when i was catcher!

Great job Kamiya! Thanks for sharing!
Yay good job
what are catchers working on to receive low pitches? best positioning for successful receiving of low pitches? TIA
Coach, how do you coach plate positioning on outfield throws now that plate blocking is discouraged?
Thanks very much! I’m a 9 year old catcher and my coach is very strict I think this will help me a lot
Is it going well for you now?
I learned to get up on my "horse", you know slide to your feet like a baseball catcher with a runner on..I was able to work smoothly, throw down quick and block balls, I loved being a catcher... it was my spot!!!
Thanks I’m a fastpitch catcher and I really need some tips so I don’t let my team down.
Stop thinking like that. Step 1
I like sitting behind the plate and trying to psych out the batter😂
tomorrow i have a tournament and trying my hardest to do my best as catcher. usually im pitcher and ive only been catcher a few times

I’m a catcher and this is my 4 year of softball I am watching this video to try to improve my catching.
How to show the glove to the catcher seeing batter position
This helps me because I have to play catcher at my game and I've only played in k so doesn't really count
I want to be a catcher and I’m almost done with my first season playing softball in 12U, I played when I was 7 but I quit. I really want to be a catcher, should I?
I’m a catcher in 12 u and it’s really fun but sometimes umpires will call really and calls so that’s a head up!💕
I’m 15 and just learning. You got this
How’s it going? Any tips ? I used to be a catcher and I want to try and be one again , I’m in high school but I wouldn’t mind being a back up

i play wreck ball, i’m playing as catcher a lot and i am trying to get better with blocking
I love catching
How much for this?
This is EXACTLY what my coach had me do
Cant believe this was 9 years ago, wow😢
I pull my head everytime the ball is on the ground how do I stop that
You are fighting against instinct. Pulling the head is naturally what people do.

First basemen’s mit?
Softball catchers often use 1B mitts. They want a flexible mitt that closes around the ball.
what about blocking
How the heck do I make sure my arm doesn’t hit the umpire when I throw??
We don’t teach framing. It’s receiving. And to be quite less movement the better and only revive pitches from river to river. That’s old school framing. Reaching around. “Baseball” style is better and prove. With a bigger ball.
