I will be going to learn this system soon in North York under GM Taboada’s representative here. I’ve been in Filipino martial arts for years but this is the most dynamic style and Instructor I have seen. 🙏🙏🙏
@@jhunoccidental9382 yes I'm in Kitchener, Ontario. The representative or guro is Peter Mitchell in North York. Was supposed to go down Sunday, but I've got the flu. So I cancelled for now 🙏
I think this kind of art is useful for maintaining speed and reflex action. I'm curious to know the physical dimensions of the stick and the name of the wood. Thank you.
Typically sticks are around 28 inches in length and 3/4 to inch diameter. I practice the same art but my stick is 26 inches and 3/4 inch diameter because I’m shorter
The wood is called Rattan. These sticks actually come from my Guro, Jeff Soriano and they are dubbed “Ferrari Sticks”. They are imported from PH. For practicing lvls 1 and 2 and conditioning we use Kamagong at about 28 inches long and 1 inch diameter
@Simple Man Thank you, again, for the information. The rattan wood, I'm not familiar, is it about the same or similar in hardness to oak or maple? I'm thinking about going to Home Depot or Lowes to pickup 3/4" dowels and cut it to 26" or 28" lengths. Thanks, again.
@@tyronekim3506 it’s a softer wood so that we don’t hurt each other because we do get hit. I got tagged in the head last session because I was sweaty and slippery. Rattan grows naturally like bamboo except in a curl and they straighten it out and dry it before making sticks out of it. It grows naturally in the Philippines. I make practice sticks out of bamboo here. You can get a set of sticks premade for 25-30 bucks though if that saves you any time and material. A good heavy stick for self defense and conditioning would be oak or something heavy for sure. I have even used an old AR barrel
Very reason this martial arts is not taught in every province and schools due to its deadly hit if the student is not trained and attuned to use in goodness. Mahirap na gamitin to sa kalokohan
They put too much weight on a single foot for that pivot maneuver. I wonder how they answer to shoving and grappling. Given that balintawak is a close combat system, perhaps they considered this already.

did you hear what he says? Play.. In reality he doesn't need that too much movement 1 strike and your sleep or dead, What he teaches is the basic, reflex and coordination so that in real fight you don't freeze to death, when someone attack you. Unless it is a fire arm. lol
Nobody can touch GM. Even his top FQIs. All the best know that they train for a bunch of reasons because any dust-up will last 3 seconds. It's like any game that's fun to play.

I read somewhere that there is an advanced cource, I just don't know if that is included in graded system or being taught by individual master.
