  • Naval News met with Commander s.g. (OF-4) Claude Bultot, MCM Program Manager, to learn about the future concept of mine warfare as selected by the Belgian Navy and the milestones of the program so far.
    =====================
    The Belgian Ministry of Defense officially notified the consortium Belgian Naval & Robotics (formed by Naval Group & ECA Group) on May 22, 2019, a contract to supply 12 mother-ships and associated equipment to the Belgian and Dutch Navies.
    The contract for twelve MCM vessels for the Belgian and Dutch navies will span over ten years. After a design period of three years, Belgium Naval & Robotics will move on to the production phase of these ships and unmanned systems, with an initial delivery scheduled for 2024. Six ships will be delivered to the Belgian Navy and six to the Royal Netherlands Navy ; They will be equipped with complete drone systems (Toolbox) containing a total of more than a hundred underwater, surface and aerial drones entirely dedicated to mine hunting.

    Great to see from a NATO ally. Not as flashy as some bigger ships but still essential. Unmanned seems a perfect fit for this work.

    Please next time you have a naval convention please invite the Philippine National Defense Secretary so that he will have some view of many Naval ships, and Maritime defense. The Philippine Navy needs more cheap affordable less maintenance but big naval assets.

    Looks like a very good platform. Advanced and looks easily upgradable.

    This is what the RN were looking at and a buy of 10 which could be built at appledore ,would be prudent as the MCMVs have about 10 years of life left
