I attended Indiana University with Kevin Kline, who got an MA in Drama there in the late '60s. I was on stage during "Three Penny Opera" a few feet from him as he sang "Mack the Knife." Wow! Such a memory of a brilliant singer and actor in his early days on stage!
Kate: Sing that song. Luc: What song? Kate: The Bobby Darin song. Luc: It's not Bobby Darin. Kate: Yeah, the Bobby Darin song. Luc: It's Charles Trenet. Kate: No. "Somewhere beyond..." Luc: No. "La Mer". It is "La Mer". Kate: Maybe your guy covered it for Bobby. Luc: No. It is a French song. Kate: Luc, could you just sing the song?
Have loved the original French version of this song forever. When Kevin Klein began to sing it at the end of the movie, you could hear my sigh in the other room.🌹💕
23 years ago from this day i married my best friend and walked down the aisle to this French Kiss version of dream a little dream and the entire collection of songs played at our reception. Little did i know that my surprise honeymoon from my hubby would be in Paris, then French Alps for 2 weeks followed by Venice Italy for another 2 weeks and was the most amazing trip to this day. We plan on being there again for our 25th. Fast forward today all 3 grown children love listening to this soundtrack and will use in their own weddings as well.
I started to cry when reading this --and not sad tears because of Terry Forde's inhuman comment above; but happy tears because that one experience would make life worth living!
What I love more than this song is the way that it is sung. It is so unassuming, so innocent; yet the man has something else hidden in his heart that just barely shines through. It latches onto my soul and leads it in a slow and meaningful but still light and enjoyable dance.
Kevin Kline does such an amazing job with this song and his portrayal of a French gent was equally brilliant...one of my fave movies and thanks for posting... @>-->---
Es un film que he visto varias veces, me encanta, la actuación de ambos es extraordinaria, esta canción interpretada por Kelvin Kline es fascinante, voz muy varonil, mis felicitaciones... =)
I am so in love with this movie and it's music that every chance I get I try to find it. My daughter taught me how to find this on TH-cam. Thank you honey for being kind to an old lady.
Le Mer was written by Charles Trenet. It is also known as "Beyond the Sea" sung by Bobby Darin. Le Mer was not in the movie but was added to the soundtrack of French Kiss...... Le Mer sung by Kevin Klein was absolutely delicious!
