I have just purchased this model. I never take it off...never! It's my daily beater, my evening suit piece, my surfing piece, my running piece, It covers all the bases without shouting. Its a superb watch for every person who remembers that Rolex has lost its way with all their bling and precious metal watches. Their bread and butter watcher was and should be sports utility, to be worn daily, to get scratched up and look the part, be a material; the example of its wearer's journey through life. I'm a working man who had to save and used to own a 14060. I had it for twenty years, no issues. This new piece is simpler and better for me at my age of 56. Restrained perfection

I feel the same having bought this watch in Jan of 2018. I also feel the same way about the OP39 white dial. Reading your comment made me want to buy another Explorer to keep in the vault and only use for special occasions.

What a tight package this video was. Good backdrop in history in the prologue, and then watchbox and wrist views. A lot of people are saying this most modern Explorer and your White OP 39 are the perfect combinations, in a collection, and I see you have them both. Very wise.

Thank you for your very informative review! I tried this watch on yesterday at my local AD and just fell in love with it. Yesterday was the first time I had ever even tried a Rolex watch on, the quality is just unmatched. After spending countless hours watching reviews on different Rolex models, I feel confident in my decision to purchase the Rolex Explorer. I enjoy your videos and the insights that you provide, thanks for all you do! -Clayton.

Just found your excellent channel after 6 months watching other TH-cam watch channels - what's with the algorithm, YT!? So, checking out your back catalogue, I saw this: The Explorer interests me greatly and I aim to add it to the collection (just the standard Rolex AD BS to deal with now, what a crock). I agree it's close to being the perfect watch - perfect size, thin enough to fit under winter clothes, tough enough to work hard, good lume, smart enough for suit and tie, not blingy - classic and class . So, thanks for the best review of this great reference and your genuine, honest, insightful, high quality presentation. Also, as a fellow MM enthusiast, watching the box set with his son for the first time in lockdown, you remind me DD did indeed sport one in the later series - though the Reverso was his other signature: the man with two identities (Reverso) and his search (Explorer) for a true self..!

I absolutely love this watch and while a date would ruin the dial I sometimes think I’d miss that function if this was my only watch.
I also have a black GS springdrive(sbga085) which is not so dissimilar to this watch (and half the price) so I’m not sure with the two reasons against I could justify adding it to my small 3-4 piece collection.
    But I want it 😩

Again, Mr.Clooney, i have to say that You have turned-in The Perfect review of The Explorer, the Best i've seen. This watch is Very Dear to me, indeed. It was born in 1953. So was i. Sir Edmond Hillary was born in New Zealand. So was i. I have Great Affinity with this timepiece. As You are well aware, the 1016 model was Rolex most continuous watch. 1963 - 1986? AND ........
it was 36mm. This watch, Mr. Clooney, in these dimensions IS/WAS Perfect Design & i'll tell You why. Most smaller watches have typically 18-19 mm lugs. Not Explorer. They made it 20mm, giving this watch, A VERY Unique Shape which punches far above its size. Blown-up to 39mm - that Uniqueness is GONE! It looks fat & bloated & to my eyes - WRONG. I have the 14270 36mm. Mr.Bear, The Reality is, this watch, (36mm) is Cool on any wrist. Any man, or Woman, for that matter can wear it. It IS THEE PERFECT TIMEPIECE! But, of course, the Search is NOT Over. The Search is Very Much On for The Perfect 1016 L-Series with The Superdome Plexi!
Again Many, MANY ThankXXX for all Your Kind Replies.

Really enjoy your videos, I recently bought the Rolex Explorer 39mm, Rolex OP 34 ( White Dial ) and the Rolex Datejust 41 for dress occasions, also white dial and have a Rolex Submariner 16610 that I bought in the early1990"s (which I believe is better proportionally than the latest ceramic models ..These are the only 4 watches without the bling I will own for the rest of my life to use and enjoy them

Bear, a question, please. I recently acquired my first Rolex. It's basically the last off the production line (a brand new Rolex GMT Master 2 LN). The other 3 higher end watches that I have are the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 2500, a Tudor Black Bay blue ETA and a Seiko Marinemaster SBDX017. The Rolex is obviously staying as is the Seiko (I'm a big Seiko fan). Should I sell the Tudor and Omega and acquire the Rolex Explorer and have a great 3 watch collection or leave my 4 core collection as is? Do I have enough Rolex with the GMT? Or Should I buy the Explorer and make this trade?

So if you were me, about to buy either the Explorer 1 or the new Oyster Perpetual 39mm White Dial, what would you go for. The White dial OP is £550 cheaper than the Explorer in the UK. Your two reviews of both watches has been very helpful. Even showing the Lume. Brilliant.

They are both great and similar but the explorer has a heritage, story and character that makes it the perfect Rolex. It’s what they do best- great quality solid sports watches.
The explorer will hold value(probably increase) and I would definitely get it over an OP if you have the choice. Don draper wore one, James Bond creator Ian Fleming wore one, Brian ferry wore one... “the defence rests” 😂

hej Bear C.... whats the difference between the explorer and the OP ? I mean, if they are both 39 mm they kind of look similar ... so if we are not talking looks .... is there a difference why they Ex is a sports watch and the OP is a dress watch ? is there a difference inside ?

So, having listened to your very good review, this Explorer and the current 39mm OP are very similar watches ? Is one 'more desirable' than the other ? If so, for what reason ? I ask because I am about to buy either the White Face 39mm OP, or this. Trying to make up mind.

    • @bearclooneywatches4186
      @bearclooneywatches4186  6 ปีที่แล้ว

buddybeetle first let me thank you for watching. When it comes to these two watches I think that Explorer might have slight advantage mainly because of it’s iconic status, but if you chose either one based simply on your personal taste, I can assure you will not make mistake, as there is no mistake picking either one of these two great watches.

Your wrists are very wide.... still the watch does not look very small on your wrist. The size is pretty much ok. I once asked to try the watch at an airport, the sales lady thought I wanted to buy it for my wife. Hahahahaha.. this size is not considered a man's size anymore... But I do not wanna look like some idiot rap-star with a watch the size of a church clock.
