Being "open-minded" for many equates to believing in claims without sufficient evidence. To me, being open-minded better equates to allowing yourself to be open to sufficient evidence and change your views according to the evidence. Just as being closed-minded means that one will not change their views regardless of the evidence. Under this definition, you could never be "too open-minded" as one could never be "too correct." Kind of like how many people have falsely equated skepticism with cynicism. One should only be skeptical of claims without sufficient evidence. People who are globe deniers, anti-vaxxers, or global warming deniers aren't skeptics, they're cynics.
SeptixSkeptix I beg to disagree, but only in the context of how the video author said it, which is, as to how I perceive it. I believe his definition of open mindedness is closer to being that of gullible and naive, more than anything else. It's really not that complicated nor difficult to see, as long as you've watched the entire video and take note of the keywords he uses such as "nonsensical" and "bullshit".
@@septixskeptix1107 I absolutely agree with you! You are correct on every point, and I appreciate your answer (and how kind you were about it)! Skepticism is necessary-we need to understand we DON’T know all the answers, or even everything ABOUT the answers. The problem I see these days (often rampant in colleges and universities): too many people aren’t willing to accept that there may be an absolute truth-whether we know everything about that truth or not is a different story-and they’ll go anyway the wind blows at the risk of being what they think is “close-minded.” Really, they aren’t willing or don’t know how to think critically and examine a variety of evidence and come to their own conclusion. They’ll feed on someone else’s ideals without question. When that happens, it’s like standing on an unsteady foundation, until you’re rocked back and forth so hard, you risk “your brain falling out,” and you’ll fall for anything without having learned anything! This is toxic! The other problem is when you’re so stuck with what you believe that you’re unwilling to think critically about it and you shut down-basically, cynicism. A friend once phrased it: “Be open-minded, but guard your heart.” Know what you believe, find the truth about why by curiously examining the evidence, and keep asking! Usually, you’ll realize the truth-whether it’s what you’ve always believed or something else-is far more amazing than you ever knew.
@@tuberobotto I did watch the entire video and I fully understand how he chose to define open-minded. My problem with the popular usage such as that represented in the video is that close-minded and open-minded are not as dichotomous as they should be under that definition. On a flat Earth there is no possible shape the heavens can take that explains the views from different latitudes. 2. They are going to be in plumb with gravity, but out of plumb to each other in all cases (ex: Golden Gate Bridge towers are vertical but also approx 2 inches farther apart at the tops vs the base. This same experiment can be done using skyscrapers that are sufficiently distant from each other as well. So break out that surveyors transit and start measuring to see the proof withy our own eyes.

@rioroze3368 If you wish to demonstrate to yourself that you are on a globe, the next time you travel to a different latitude, take note of the moon. When you were in Jamaica you were about 31degrees further south than when you are in London. This means you are revolved relative to the 'heavens'. You may not be familiar with the constellations, so that might not strike you as it would a 'stargazer', but you would certainly notice the features of the moon revolved relative to the horizon by exactly the amount you changed latitude. All the best, Tim

More and more people are able to acquire tech to do there own experiments. One being sending weather balloons up to film the horizon and they show, contrary to that of NASA'S footage, a very flat horizon from the same altitude. It raises many questions but either way it is clear that we are being lied to about the nature of where we live. If there was nothing to it why the misinformation campaigns such as the FES? So I will reserve my judgement until I see conclusive proof one way or another.

"We should all be careful not to be so open-minded that our brains fall out." That is my new quotation for so many things in this world!
SeptixSkeptix
I beg to disagree, but only in the context of how the video author said it, which is, as to how I perceive it.
Under the definition of gullible or naive, closed and open-minded could be defined the exact same way, other than being opposites.
@Thoughty2, you really dropped the ball on this one. All that Flat Earth talk and not one single Terry Pratchett reference.

Discworld reference bruh. Love it
The "earth is accelerating" explanation for gravity conveniently ignores that gravity isn't 9.81m/s^2 everywhere, at the top of a mountain it's different than in a valley.
I love how he does not mention that they think Australia is fake and every Aussie is a nasa paid actor
False dichotomy. Only the most gullible retards think Australia is real. Do you also believe in New Zealand, hobbits, elfs, white wizards and magical evil rings?

True
That is known as "Hanlon's Razor," and was originally intended as Satire. Taken literally, it would only help protect malicious people by helping them feign incompetence, to get away with known wrongdoing.

Human brains have limited size, so human stupity isn't infinite and as long people thinks similar, limits stupidity.

The two questions no flat earther can answer and both are experimentally provable on a human scale.
1. Why do the stars change with Latitude? On a flat Earth there is no possible shape the heavens can take that explains the views from different latitudes.
2. Visit any suspension bridge and measure the plum of the towers to gravity, then to each other.
