- Coach Cronin spoke to reporters after the Bruins absorbed a 94-75 loss to Michigan in a Big Ten Conference game on Tuesday evening inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
This will go down as an all time great post game press conference meltdown. Glorious.
Not a meltdown at all. Was blunt, incisive. Why Bruins fans love this guy and fans of other teams hate him.
@@LABoyko Keep drinking the kool aid, buddy. That is 100% a meltdown. Good luck finding success in the NIL era with that clown as your head coach.
@@LABoyko I'm a Michigan fan and I love the guy lol. Just met him lol. I truly appreciate honesty. World needs more of this.
U soft if you think this a meltdown
Nah ppl just soft man lol yall use to ppl sugarcoating lying
This the type of coach that is needed !!! No faking, real direct. He’s passionate and a winner, those type of ppl can’t stand to see ppl not want to work hard. I played 4yrs college ball, I wish I had a coach like this🙏🏾💯 these the ones you appreciate 10yrs down the road in REAL LIFE, what he’s teaching goes way further than on the court.
He should start with “I need to coach better”. This woe-is-me take is a reflection on his culture. He recruited players, he coaches them every day, and he throws everyone under the bus but himself.
Throwing individual players under the bus in a press conference is pure BS. If this was reversed and players threw the coach under the bus to the media, people would lose their minds. No problem saying they're soft or that they don't want to win, but it's a TEAM failure, which starts at the top.
Yeah ok! There is no way he should be a coach ! Cmon ! Direct and passionate is one thing , but there something wrong brewing in that mans brain. UCLA will act and he will fired Guaranteed ! The point was good but line was crossed ! There is always a fine line my friend !
Mick Cronin sucks. Hes never lead a team deep in the tourney.
He's a whiny little bitch, tbh. This is the problem with me today: they can't take responsibility for anything. You're the fucking coach! Clearly, your coaching sucks or your players would play their heart out for him. No one plays hard for a douche.
Being soft in the B1G won't cut it. He's not wrong. And this M team actually has a new coach and turned over roster from outside of the B1G. This conference gets physical.
Imagine how many more titles this conference could’ve played for if the stupid conference tournament didn’t back up against the dance.
If Michigan didn't turn it over so much they would have won by 50 😂
Actually most big ten 10 teams play drop defense, kind of the opposite of the type of basketball you are talking about. SMH.
Wow Mick threw everyone under the bus here but himself and the athletic trainer.
Saying his team is soft is kind of throwing the athletic trainer under the bus.
@@Sal-h2l No. Soft means no heart. Mick doesn't mean physically
@@MrAitraining TRUUUUUUUUUUU
@@MrAitraining The reality is, they lack both heart & a physical presence in both their front & back courts. For next year, it's time to recruit "at least" one true enforcer-center & also a bigger, tougher & more confident PG (as opposed to Andrews) who doesn't play so soft/inconsistently. Their lack of depth in size + physicality will continue to be their Achilles heel this year imo...and Andrews needs to be benched (provides no offense).
@@Uncutslots ironically Berke bulked up and is an enforcer for Nebraska now.
It's almost as if the guy who recruited and developed these players and the culture in the locker room doesn't seem to take responsability at all.
Smh... Weak.
Precisely. Cronin was a jerk back in Cincinnati too
Who recruited these players - who has these players in practice everyday ? Coach you got some blame too
The Coach is not the one shooting the ball or grabbing rebounds.
I’ve coached many teams in all sports. Guys i selected. You never really know about the desire if a player until the rubber hits the road.
It's the coaches job to develop players and create the culture maybe this coach just sucks
His point is he is the only person holding anyone accountable. Great teams hold each other accountable from top to bottom.
@@EricGall-EBA should start with himself. That’s what good leaders do.
As much as is it’s hard to hear him go off on his own team, he made the Bruins relevant in the last few years.
This is how I feel coaching my boys. The passion for the game is being taken for granted.
Nobody wants the UCLA basketball head coaching job. Every man is afraid of taking this job. They have the biggest shoes to fill, and you have to live under the success and the shadow of the almighty John Wooden. With that being said, I love Coach Cronin. Always speaks the truth, and he's the ONLY man that wants to coach at UCLA. Ultimately, these losses fall on his shoulder, but he's working hard to ensure a championship returns to Westwood. Keep working hard Coach Cro! I know you'll get UCLA back to great heights!
Dude wooden was another lifetime ago
@@dpaul1148 Kareem graduated from high school a year after I did. Indeed it was a long time ago.
That's a Steve Lavin reply. No one has compared a UCLA basketball coach to Wooden since Harrick.
@mr.popos_Island Kentucky has four coaches who won national championships since Rupp. Young North Carolina fans herald Roy Williams and have only heard stories of Dean Smith. UCLA is the worst blue blood by performance since 1975 by far. Not even the premiere program on the West. Both Gonzaga and Arizona are better programs. UCLA lost at Pauley to Belmont, a small school in Nashville. The kids didn't even know who Wooden was. Talking about Wooden is like the University of San Francisco, talking about the Bill Russell days.
@@dpaul1148 I know. So what's your point?
that was INCREDIBLE.....Go Blue!
...great post game. Respect the man's honesty and that he actually cares. Putting emphasis on caring about the UCLA basketball program and not just playing nice and picking up a cheque...
C'mon coach, you don't accept any of the responsibility? You knew this about your team before they hit the floor. You should never tear down your team publicly like you did. Shout out to my Wolverines! GO BLUE
You can't coach and play
Everything he said was 1000% out of his control toughness and the will to win isn’t something he can make players do
soft
Oscar as a fellow Michigan fan, we just had a poor coach who could not coach, recruit, nor develop players. We saw firsthand how bad it can be. One of the problems of Howard coached teams is they were soft as well. Howard might still be coach if his teams were tough. They werent.
Now, Michigan has a coach and team who are mentally tough and will fight hard every game.
I'm a new fan of this coach!! Honesty is a great trait.
Mick cronin will tell you how it is, learned that from Rick Pitino
The negativity in this town sucks
My goodness, this man is a genius! Ferocious anger channeled into tenacity, passion & grit. Destroy delusion or be destroyed.
Not everyone is the same. When my coach would yell at me, I didn't care, but some of the other kids would be like, You don't have to yell at me; I'm right here. 😂
Why I love this guy. His analysis of this crappy team is spot on. Did not say anything that wasn't 💯. He needs a group of dogs as mentally tough as he is. Maybe next year.
He ain't wrong!!!
Go Blue! #beatdown
Calling your team soft is fine but Calling out certain players by names thats not a good look, and also not adding yourself in the contribute to the lost. Thats a quick way to lose your locker room
very true
Yep, he called out everyone but himself.
3:25 "we got guys who think they are way better than they are [...] completely delusional about who they are". Yikes. By the way, who recruited these players? 🤔
UCLA is truly not able to compete against the Big Ten.
He recruited these players.
California basketball players are not the same BB players as the east!
They have proved it. What made UCLA administration think they could compete against the Big 10 conference.
We barely survived in the PAC-12.
TRUTH....
🤷🏼♂️
You know something, when crap hits the fan....or the media....the head coach is always to blame.
No, sure, they make a contagious amount of money holding the head coaching position.
In high school, usually it's an ex college athlete that participated at with that program. Or...one with winning credentials. No?
College....yah winners or what known as good "teachers" of that sport.
Imagine, becoming the new head ranch dude, taking over the experienced ranch hands, the animals or whatever the creatures or objects.
Ha ha ha, really. Every renounce successful college basketball program has had its ups and catastrophic downs.
Before we condemn them men or women for taking on these jobs. I know, I know. They either wanted the money or positional status.
Do you blame them. What would you do? If you had the qualifications to place yourself in the eyes of you who THOW them under the BUS.
If they were winning....🥴😂😂😂😂😂🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
What your say then.....probably nothing.
🤷🏼♂️
I think as the head coach you should have more passion, energy etc., to set the tone for your team. Thats why you’re the coach. How can you possibly blame everyone else and you’re their leader?
> How can you possibly blame everyone else and you’re their leader?
Exactly. Those are HIS hires and HIS players but brags about he's the only one bringing it?! Yikes.
Time to start asking Cronin the tough questions. He gets paid a lot of money, so don’t let him push you around, media folks. Why is their offense so bad? Why does he play Andrews so much when he is slumping hard?
He’s a winner. If you don’t wanna play ball and win then stay home. I love this.
@@ShaunSchoenthaler-ev3lo He needed to own his own part. He not only called his guys soft but took shots at the assistant coaches too. Michigan is just better. You can't defend 2 seven footers clicking like they are while others are hitting 3's.
@ Michigan is better. Go blue!!
@@ShaunSchoenthaler-ev3lo I've been saying they are really good since the season started. Just needed time to gel. When Wolf and Goldin are clicking and tre and the outside guys are hitting shots, they are an unguardable team
@ agreed! Just gotta work on the turnovers and closing out games which they have been. Dusty turned it around in 3 months. Juwan would’ve been suspended twice by now. I love Danny Wolf but he’s got to handle the ball a little better. We’re winning the big ten.
I've been saying MI is legit. Just needed time together. Wolf and Goldin are golden.
Michigan's 3 losses are by a combined 6 points. And 2 of them, Michigan had the game in hand and blew it. I'd put this team up against (an overhyped) Auburn right now.
@mgoblue0970 Auburn wss better early because they have some continuity from last yr. Ditto tennessee. MI just needed time. All new guys. Danny wolf is an NBA player. What a transfer grab that was.
@@mgoblue0970 5 actually. And yeah, had double digit leads in all 3 and just pissed it away.
This is who he is. Excuse making and player bashing. He knows he will be on the hot seat if this season is unsuccessful.
Coach Mick isn't going anywhere. The problem with this team is the roster. These players are average at best.
We've come to expect the offense to be anemic , but when the defense is also this bad, it's a very very bad sign. Cronin has to be better.
Can't recruit anybody good to come here.
@@Andrew-eq2wu it would have been nice if he acknowledged Michigan is just better instead of calling his players soft and taking none of the heat himself.
I’m a Michigan fan and coach is right. I understand a loss is tough and it always hurts. This UCLA coach is awesome! Should not have to challenge his players man-hood. I really like this guy- he has it and no question about it.
1:39 "I have the most energy of everybody"... coach, why aren't you starting then?
The Lady Reporter asks him a question & he says - " Why should I have to challenge your Manhood , your character & toughness " ? Taliking about his players , but she got that answer ! 👊
Michigan was just bigger and better
One thing a coach is not supposed to do is coach effort on the court, that is on the players.
Cronin kept it 100. Has Bilas ever coached a team?
If ppl are upset with what he’s saying. One never been a coach and two, never been a player.
This coach is experiencing the softness of this current generation.
I have no issue!! Great job coach.
Couldn’t have said it any better myself! Thank you! He seems too harsh but people forget this is how majority of coaches were back in the day. This is normal. It’s the current generation that has changed
Exactly !!!! This the type of coaching that saves you off the court in real life as well💯
I played at a high level throughout high school and college and have been an ODP coach. No coach should be saying to the press that these players are delusional. Light their asses up in the locker room and at practice. But this is a horrible take considering he recruited those players.
hes the one who's soft....takes no responsibility and does this BS every year.
@@mgoblue0970: Then you should know this is not a one off. He’s being seeing this type of effort for a while and most likely have lit them up in practice and nothing seems to be working. Coaches get fed up. Especially when there’s a lack of effort. This was his final effort to push them. Calling ppl delusional is not wrong because some players are delusional and not honest about their game.
This was less of a postgame interview as it was a Mick Cronin love letter written to Mick Cronin.
Who recruited these guys?
Coming into this game UCLA was one of the top defenses in the national now all of sudden they soft, its seems to me like you didn't have a game plan for Michigan.
Yeah, sounded like Michigan was just better and didn’t miss.
There is a serious problem with the roster construction when you have no reliable shooters and your only big man is slow as molasses and uncoordinated. Can’t win every game with defense because teams will have games where they just can’t miss like yesterday. You need to be able to score.
Calling out your own players as soft and mentioning them by name. I wouldn't call that good coaching.
Can we just start Mack now? Why are we suffering with Andrew’s
Dylan is a better on-ball defender. Bruins wiped out a big deficit, took a four-point lead due in large part to Dylan creating turnovers.
We got work to do...
Keep fighting Bruins 💪
Why isn’t Mack starting???
This guy is hilarious. This press conference is perfect tape on how to not handle a post game press conference. He literally blamed everyone but himself. It’s everyone else’s fault he gets no blame. The ucla fan who took a bathroom break during the game is also responsible according to this guy. Lol
He was an assistant under Pitino. Pitino acts the same after a loss. Gotta take the good with the bad. And as someone else said, nobody wants this job. I mean, Cronin got the job by default. He was not on the wish list. Should never have run off the kids last year for these mercenaries. And Andrews is just not the answer. Gotta give the keys to Perry.
As a Michigan alum, he came across as telling it like it is early in conference play. Why should I have to challenge your manhood work ethic and character...some guys need to go see the wizard. Seems fair. It won't get easier. #1 team lost by 30. Not liking the truth is soft just like he said.
@@R.LeeReese If you are a Michigan alum, you should go back and listen to John Beilein. He didn't get the top talent but he certainly was one of the best coaches in the NCAA.
💯. What a clown.
@@R.LeeReese here is your problem he blamed his assistants also. Who hired his assistants? It’s a guy who cannot accept blame for his failures
The Bruins has been verbally beaten down and afraid to make a mistake. Cronin should learn from Coach Cori Close and maybe she can give you a master class on how to positively encourage your players to play to their capacities.
Yeah Coach Cori has been at UCLA for 14 seasons... There were a couple of losing seasons during the early years, but never heard her publicly call players by name. 😬
Coach Mick isn't coaching girls, he's coaching alleged men. If they need to be coddled -- in addition to being highly paid -- they came to the wrong place.
Cori close hasn’t won anything meaningful while her 14 years at UCLA with some of the best athletes in the country. You can expect another disappointing season from her and the lady bruins in the tournament this year. I’m good on that.
Who's in charge and who is accountable for the performance of his players...?
Since players are paid now then the players are responsible for their performances. Can’t treat em like kids anymore since they’re asking for millions or they’re hitting the portal. No more kid gloves treatment. Call em out. The days of it just being the head coaches fault is out the window. Now you got a group full of professionals. No more amateur protection.
When you mention “Soft” that’s the players fault…they go out there and put in the work the staff puts them in position. With that being said this is Bad Coaching on public display
@@justentime4U When I just went over his resume I really can't believe he's the problem here. He's been a very successful coach over the past 14-15 years. I really do think he's gotten to the point where these kids are getting paid now and they're acting different and he's tired of seeing it and calling it out. Professional athletes can't get protection like amateur players. Once you start making demands and leaving cause you ain't getting paid enough then you can stop being treated as a kid and those gloves can come off.
@@RenzoP3Not disagreeing i just feel two things can be true is all. It’s a bad coaching job to let it hit the media. It can cause problems psychologically to a team. There are ways of responding to adversity and when others are involved keep it in house to strengthen continuity.
So EVERYONE is unmotivated but you!? Not to mention calling out players so negatively by name at a press conference. Sounds like a leadership and culture problem. Coach clearly has skills and motivation, but this energy needs to be distributed to the team differently, obviously.
Got to wake these bitches up somehow. Speaking in code, walking on eggshells is for girls. If they want to get paid like men, they need to perform or they will be out too.
Can’t coach effort or heart! Hes trying to get his team to be tough. Hes calling them out and putting them on notice. If they back down from the challenge, they’ve proven his point!!
Cronin is a bad ass.
Wish Coach Cronin would be more encouraging to the players. Hopefully the players don't start tuning him out 😕
Yes we got blown out today, but even when we win he nitpicks on deficiencies......
While I agree 100%, part of what he's doing is really to get the most out of them so that they can be their best and have a shot at the next level. Some kids respond to his kind of coaching, while others will have difficulty. It takes a certain type of toughness to put up with his style for sure.
They gave up 94 points. They don't belong here. They don't work. They are lazy human beings, period.
@@williamchang3509 He don't give any trophies for participating. Bravo Mick.
These players receive encouragement in the forn of a paycheck. What they need is a swift kick in the ass. Viva Coach Mick!
Yeah that Bobby Knight style doesn't work with these kids these days. Gen x kids were the last generation that could handle that type of tough love. He needs to realize that with NIL money and players getting paid he needs to adapt his style cz these kids will just time him out and leave next year
How many people here from MGoBlog?
The PAC 12 has waved on D during league play for years, and then the teams who make the tournament actually play 100%.
The BIG does not have the talent at times as the B12, UConn, ACC (not so much lately), SEC, but nobody can say the BIG does not play hard all the time.
This has been a shock for the P12 dudes.
I dig his outlook on how basketball is historically played and won....but calling out everyone who you have final roster and coaching positions on is ridiculous. This is YOUR team. You picked everyone. So if they are soft, you are soft. And that historically, is the way teams are viewed.
He literally said he’s the” toughest guy in the room” and basically he’s John Wooden and his staff and players suck. He should be fired as soon as he returns to campus.
What a clown this guy is. Look how good I am everyone else sucks. Great speech coach!
would of been worse if they called fouls refs let Golden get run over 3 times and called him for it
How we go from being down 10 in the last 3 minutes to ending down 20. There was no reason for UCLA to lose. We had momentum and let it go as soon as they started raining 3's. come on bruins
There goes his recruiting class 😂
Like Jalen said last night and I've been saying all year . We're giving up too many free points at the line every game. Some of that is on Cronin. He needs to make these guys MAKE 100 free throws at the end of every practice until they can leave the gym. I guarantee they'll get better. Free throws are just a routine. Its not that hard to shoot at least 80%. And your guards should be closer to 90%
See if you aren't in a foul mood after your house burns down.
I love this guy! Every coach should have this level of competitive zeal and testicular fortitude.
Everyone saying he's wrong and that he's getting fired soon and that the team reflects off the coach
You better be working the hardest-you’re making $4.1 million a year coaching amateur sports.
You wonder how many coaches feel the same way, but always fall back to the same old cliches'...Refreshing.
This guy seriously took absolutely no accountability for the players he brought in, the culture he has control over and instead blasted his players. Very Brian Kelly of you sir.
Cronin recruited this "soft"team 😅
it is never Cronin s fault . lol. he needs to go
If you have no one who can shoot 3's, then why in hell do you let them shoot them. What the hell is wrong with a layup?
In fairness, it's harder to get layups when the opposition has two 7 footers.
I dont respect the way he's talking about his players, he could never be my coach
Based on how much you weigh, I don’t think you would make his team 😂
@ no shit buddy I'm talking about human decency
Clearly you never been on a team
@@robscottfromlb5625 Basketball no. One thing I do know is this guy is going about it the wrong way, he's blaming his own players for shooting woes when that's his responsibility to be coaching that up.
@@robscottfromlb5625 I'm not even a fuckin fan of this team I'm not gonna give you the time of day
Ultimately, in the modern NCAA, coaches pick their players and their teams. Throwing everyone under the bus is not the answer. If UCLA turns its season around, it will be in spite of their coach...not because of its coach.
This honest perspective is refreshing to hear as a Michigan fan. I hope the UCLA players will respond by taking Cronin’s words to heart!
Im glad he was honest and called them delusional mofos out! Because alot of kids think they're hot shit and they're not
GO BLUE.
They better come out and crush the next team
It's the coaches job too get his players and staff prepared. If there not playiing hard ask yourselves why? Maybe they don't like playing for this guy
Cronin is a jerk. This is the team you put together jerk. Now you’re talking like you have nothing to do with it.
Love this guy but Stay tuned, this guy is gonna snap for real before long
This guy will never win‼️ his attitude stinks a lot body language horrible and facial expressions are just disgusting, he’s not an uplifter at all, he’s always screaming screaming screaming always MAD , you pick the players and staff and he’s Mad 😡……. He will never get big time players at all
The hungry dog gets the bone.
michigan is anything but soft. ucla was trying the bullyball game and sprinting into players and getting suspect fouls with no real attempt to shoot the ball. maybe ucla needs to work on fundamentals like blocking out, passing, and shooting.
Call out your team if you want, but to do it publicly in that fashion is tacky. Maybe if coach had tried to double-team Goldin he wouldn't have gone off for 36 points on his guys.
Wow!!!! Anyway can anybody tell me why this team is regressing? Or is the word digressing. We were way better going into the Nebraska game
Lol! Damn ! How many final fours has he won ? To bash players in public ? None?
Not sure I fully agree here, you rarely hear a big time coach say these things. It’s your job to motivate. Never hear a izzo or one of these guys say I work harder than everyone else. More often he would say it’s on me. I didn’t have my team ready. We’ll see how it plays out, UCLA has been playing well up to this point
He's throwing the team under the bus but pumping himself up. I get saying a lot of these things in the locker room but this is highly questionable. He does seem to tone it down a bit as he goes on.
He can’t just call Michigan better? He needs to put his team down? They worked their asses off and Michigan just played better. Take accountability
lol 😂 “Sometimes you gotta go see the wizard 🧙” …why did they just skip over that comment? I mean he paused for like 10 seconds before saying it, then the reporters just moved on 🤷🏻♂️ id like to know what he meant.
In the movie, each character wish they had something. The scarecrow wanted a brain, the tin woodman wanted a heart, and the cowardly lion wanted courage. They went to see the wizard in order to become a better and confident person. Mick Cronin wants to see courage, being smart and playing with heart from this team. They did not show it. He wants his team to fight when push comes to shove. To be confident not only in themselves but in their teammates as well. Which players will battle in the trenches when things get physical and push back when things get hard. Mick wants this team to play mad when there on the court. He wants them to play with fire in their eyes. You want to win in the Big Ten you need to be the more tougher and resilient team. This is not the Pac-12 anymore.
underrated psychopath
Respect.!!! he's calling his team out film don't lie people
I wonder if his players will quit on this coach that took no responsibility but through his entire team under the bus. To call out individual college kids like that is ridiculous.
Coach Cronin got almost 500 Wins & he's only 53 years old ? So if he's not a " Good Coach " at the Very least..... did he pull a Magic Wand out of his ear & wave it around to get 500 Wins ? 🤔
wow good luck to the rest of the season it would be hard to play for a guy who takes NO ACCOUNTABILITY and puts all the blame on everyone else smh! Michigan was on fire tonight happens to every team at some point. I didnt see a bad team but dont see them going far with this coach man smh.
This team is just getting bullied, it’s embarrassing!! The physicality in the big ten is on another level and it’s obvious, they may not win another game in league unless it’s another pac team.
A. Cronin looks like Bruce Willis
B. He went too far here and said 'I' a lot
Sports needs more of this type of stuff!! Amen !
Wow. Just wow. No wonder his players aren't motivated to play for him.
Wow! He’s perfect and his team sucks and he wants to tell the world how bad they are. And he doesn’t have answers. Go blue!
Love it! Team message received.
No wonder the team is soft - just listen to that whiney coach throw his team under the bus. Names names. You can’t do that.
I thought when we came back we was go win
"Need 2 go see the Wizard" 👍
Hmm. Isn't it his job to build this team and build the culture? Is this him thinking he is lighting a fire under them by airing it out to media lol. I don't know how this is going to fly with the locker room
Wow. Called his whole team delusional and soft. It seems like he hates the team that he built. He needs to resign. What a moron!
