  • Steamed fish is such a staple meal in asian culture but I never personally made it until this year! It brings me nostalgic memories of when my mom used to make it all the time, so I decided to make some steamed asian fish recipes, but with basa fish this time!
    Serving: 2-4 portions
    Ingredients:
    -Basa steak fillet (2-4 pieces)
    -1/2 cup soy sauce
    -2tbsp ponzu (optional)
    -2tbsp sesame oil
    -scallions
    -2-3 cloves of garlic
    -ginger
    -choice of veggies (cabbage used)
    -rice
    Instructions:
    1. Thaw your frozen basa fish. In the meantime, slice some scallion diagonally and thinly. Place it in water to soak so that it curls up later on. Mince your garlic, and thinly julienne the ginger.
    2. To make the marinade, add your soy sauce, ponzu and sesame oil. Sprinkle the ginger over the fish evenly. Pour the sauce over the fish
    3. Add fish to a pan of oil, add water to the pan until just under the plate. Turn on heat, and when it boils, cover with a lid and continue steaming medium for 10-15 min.
    4. Cook rice. Without a rice cooker, add rice to an instant pot with a ratio of 1:1 rice to water. Pressure cook for only 3 minutes and it will be nicely cooked
    5. In a pan, cook your desired veggies (cabbage) with some sesame oil and soy.
    6. (optional) Cut 2 red chilli peppers - highly recommend for the spice kick
    7. In a small pan, put scallion, garlic and red chilli peppers in a pan of oil for 1 min or until fragrant. Cut heat before it burns
    8. When fish is done, pour the fragrant garnish in oil over the fish and serve!
