    This is a wonderful restore. Buuuuut I wouldn't call this a Katana...More like a Ornate saber.

    There were a few defects in that circular disc-like piece you made for the handle. It would've been even better if you could've ground & polished those out more, but I'm no expert. Still a beautiful sword. Great work.

    This is not a Katana. Or a Japanese sword. It is someone's idea of a Japanese sword. Tsuka, Tsuba and Hamon non-existent, let alone makers mark, and poor finish overall of blade.

      I think it may have been a WW2 arsenal blade as I think I saw an arsenal stamp before he erased any vestige of information with an electric grinder. It does have bo-hi.

      Танкистам, лётчикам, сержантам и другим военным специалистам, воюющим в ограниченном пространстве, выдавали вакидзаси.
      А для сержантского состава точно на клинок шло что попало.

    This is a decent restoration. It also looks like it is a Katana. But it is definitely not an Antique. An Antique Katana would have some form of makers mark engraving on the tang. Even after cleaning it under the conditions it was found, you would probably still see some of that mark. This did not have any sign of that.

    • @stampededestroyerxx2845
      @stampededestroyerxx2845 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "An Antique Katana would have some form of makers mark engraving on the tang." That's not true at all. Some of the most important blades are Mumei (unsigned), see for example a lot of Masamune's works.
      A signed blade by no means can be definitely identified as a "real antique" just based on signature, there is a lot of fake signatures on the market, both new replicas as well as older ones.

    • @tormondbloodshield6064
      @tormondbloodshield6064 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not say signed, I said maker's mark. Many maker's marks are signatures but not all. If not a signature there would still be markings indicating a purpose or a lord that the sword was made for. The sword in this video had no markings.

    • @stampededestroyerxx2845
      @stampededestroyerxx2845 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tormondbloodshield6064 If you are talking about tang aspects as marks for dating and classification, sure. We cannot judge this without close-up inspection though.
      But the absence of a dedicated engraved mark or signature definitely does not imply that a blade is "definitely not an Antique". As I said, mumei are very widespread and already were so hundreds of years ago, even from very significant swordsmiths. Also keep in mind that signatures often are lost in older swords that have been shortened.

    • @tormondbloodshield6064
      @tormondbloodshield6064 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, many of his long blades were shortened and his original markings were lost but those would have replacement markings on the newly created tangs. In some cases his (and other famous sword makers) signature was forged but most of those are also still considered antiques. They are not as valuable as his would be. They are still works that are old. They were still 'reworked' hundreds of years ago, just not considered as old (or as valuable) as his original work. Since the tang is covered and protected it is very rare for markings to be lost due to age. If there are no markings it might be an antique that some idiot had the markings removed but it is much more likely that it is not an antique.

    • @stampededestroyerxx2845
      @stampededestroyerxx2845 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tormondbloodshield6064 "but those would have replacement markings on the newly created tangs" Nope, not true. Just have a look at famous mumei or just a few shortened NBTHK papered mumei on the market right now.
      I'd also suggest having a look at the inventory of the Japanese National Treasure and the number of mumei with absolutely now markings (apart from form aspects and historic documents being available for assignment to a specific maker) at all.

    Найденная самоделка никак не тянет на античную вещь. Первое что бросается в глаза неправильная геометрия клинка. Второе что вызывает сомнения в аутентичности предмета - односторонний дол, странно что усилий мастера хватило только на одну сторону. Подгонка хабаки что до ремонта что после него оставляет желать лучшего... Изготовленная рукоятка у японского мастера способна вызвать разве что сердечный приступ, ладно покрасил её краской, хрен с ним с железным штифтом, но скажите, разве нельзя было найти специальный шнур..? Конечно проще у сестры цветные ленты стащить....

    If you didn't know that isn't a real katana it is a decision katana that goes on your wall or in a katana stand and great job on the restoration you can tell because the tang doesn't go all the way though the handle and the only thing I suggest if you restore another katana is to only do hand sanding
