    I've also switched to Rekordbox DJ. The big bugs are all gone, the CPU performance is finally in line with competitors, plus easy compatibility with NX2 hardware. I've gone from OG Final Scratch 1.0 to Serato to Traktor to Rekordbox DJ over the course of 17 years. I have no complaints with RBDJ, and migrating from Traktor was not difficult. While the Traktor and Serato FX sound ace, they're easy to overdo and annoy the listener. RBDJ just works, doesn't matter if you have a $250 DDJ-400 or a $1100 DDJ-1000.

    I've had Serato DJ forever with all those add-ons so it is redundant but if I was just starting out then Recordbox sounds like a steal in comparison

      Neal Mcfarlane I feel the same way. I use to use Virtual dj but the interface got annoying so I switched to Serato with all the add ons. I'm comfortable with it. Still don't know how to use everything it offers. So I'll just stick with it.

    I’ve switched from serato back to virtual DJ and now switching to rekordbox DJ. I’ve had nothing but issues with serato from audio glitches to opening up serato and no crates being there not just once or twice but 3 times. On the day of a gig. I’m glad vdj was there to back me up

    very insightful video. Serato licensing policy is complicated, attaching licence to a device. With Rekorbox you get fully functional software without a need to buy additional packs and, what is important, independent from the controller. So you can take your laptop with you and practice simple mixes on the journey. Other important thing is that you can make a setlist and play it on club Pioneers with USB. Pop-up hints for each button and function are also very convenient for begineers. Sampler is awesome. Live input recording. In Rekordbox you can easily put recorded sequence into further mix (on deck). Etc etc

    I just switched from Denon DJ MC7000 (Serato DJ) to Pioneer DDJ 1000, and I miss having effects on 2 channels at once. This was really usefull to do buildups and effects fast and complex... Now when I can have only one channel effect at the time I feel limited :/ Thats huge drawback of DDJ1000 compared to other, namely Serato controllers.
    But then again, it's nice that DDJ1000 has all effect built in as standalone unit. That on the other hand i huge plus, but then again I don't have and don't need any additional unit plugged in so it's useless for me.

    PDOTTV, i love your video. I been try Rekordbox and now my 30 days is up. They are dragging their feet releasing the pioneer ddj 1000 in Guitar Center. One thing i found out it take a long time setting up cue point for my large library I have in Serato. Thumbs up to you great work. Do you have a video on how to keep your cue point on Rekordbox dj from Serato dj. Thanks

    • @PDot

    Was using Traktor for 10 Years at gigs, bought a Pioneer controller to use it with Traktor. Tried Rekordbox - loved the browser and my increase in speed. Now I use it for gigs.
    Sound quality for scratching/cutting and effects sucks compared to Traktor. My general performance with RB is better through.

    • @PDot

    Do you notice that Rekordbox Control Vinyl seems like it has a lag in latency vs using Serato and Serato Control Vinyl. Been using Rekordbox for years and love it but now that I’ve upgraded to turntables the latency and control vinyls feels less responsive as when using Serato

    • @trafficjambr

  • @RamytRamyt

    Thanks for the video! Quick question for you: what's the difference between RB-DJ (full paid version), and RB-DVS? I want to use the control vinyl at home - is it possible to do that on the RB-DJ full version, or do I have to purchase that, and then purchase RB-DVS on top of that?

    • @PDot
      @PDot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you would like to use control vinyl, you will need to purchase RBDJ plus the DVS expansion pack.

    • @RamytRamyt

      UUUUUUGH! Wish I knew that before I bought the control vinyl for the trial period. The trial version is a bit misleading in that manner - thought it was just one package, not two parts. Ok, well thanks for letting me know. Appreciate it!

    I'm in the market for a DJ Software. I was looking at both Serato or Rekordbox. Which one would you recommend to start??, also once i get it I'm planning to stick with it for a long run. I used to use Virtual Dj like 5 years ago, trying to get back in the DJ Scene. Thanks!

    • @PDot
      @PDot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say it depends really on what more DJs in the bars/clubs/etc around you use. Are they using a computer with Serato, or Rekordbox with either a computer or usb sticks? I would pick the software you see getting used more around you, it will make it easier for you to break back into the local scene.

  • @lifesweb
    @lifesweb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use both, rekordbox in my opinion does not analyze songs as well as serato, also it does not track well. Another thing to note is the looping is a bit flawed because the comments mentioned earlier. I feel like Rekordbox was rushed, pushed to the public and it is still in beta form. I do like the fact that serato has a great competitor in the market, because the Will breed in inovation.

    • @PDot
      @PDot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that Rekordbox does not analyze tracks correctly as often as Serato does, hopefully they fix it to be more accurate.

    • @EricWoning
      @EricWoning 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have heard of Traktor, right? Big names like Carl Cox use that..... so I don't think Recordbox will push Serato to another height... Traktor was already doing that.

  • @monarchthedj8357
    @monarchthedj8357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have only been DJing for about two years, I bought Serato and a pioneer ddjsb2 from the start but I am looking at investing in my own CDJ setup. I have heard from multiple videos that if I'm going to start doing club gigs/working with CDJs I need to get rekordbox and ditch Serato. Can someone please explain why that would be beneficial to me?...

    • @PDot
      @PDot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience as a full-time working DJ, it usually depends on the type of genres you're DJing. Most open format DJs (at least here in the US) use Serato, while I find that a lot of the EDM guys favor using rekordbox with flash drives.

    • @monarchthedj8357
      @monarchthedj8357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've only been working with Rap & hip-hop music but I'm open to work with any genre. I guess I'm just confused at how the software aspects of CDj units work because ive seen videos of people using them with serato using some sort of external device or using extra cables connected to a computer running serato but ive also heard that you can only use a USB drive with music on it formatted using rekordbox. Another TH-camr said the usb method is also possible without using rekordbox to format files, only difference is the files are very hard to sort and find on the CDJ without rekordbox. At this point in my DJ career, I am just trying to figure out what I need to know in order to operate CDJs at a club if I am offered a gig. Could you offer some advice?

    • @PDot
      @PDot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If those are your main genres I would strongly suggest sticking with Serato. Most clubs will usually have a Serato interface around, or if they have the club standard Pioneer mixer and cdj setup you can plug directly into the mixer. In this situation besides your latptop and the club's CDJ setup, all you would need is a USB cable and flash drives or CDs with the Serato control signal.
      Yes it is possible to use mp3s on a flash drive without running them through Rekordbox, but they will not have any waveform information as well as the bpm and beat grid information may not appear.

I don’t miss anything about Serato. Used Serato DJ Pro at a club on Saturday and it felt as good as ever, just lacking in features.

    • @gerardmcgloin8898
      @gerardmcgloin8898 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seeing you right this makes me realize Serato may have a better "auto gain" feature. However, I am giving Rekordbox DJ a fair try. Stay away from platinum notes. They permanently alter your file with a target EQ shape. Causes ear fatigue IMO. If you have a backup of your music go back to it.

    • @PDot

    I don't own any software, but I downloaded the RB trial last night and am shocked at how poorly the video playback is. It's choppy and stutters a lot. Even in low quality mode it's still a bit laggy (and looks absolutely horrible) I have an I5 3750k with 8gb of ram. it's onboard Intel 4000 video. But my setup should be plenty to power RB. I can't say much about RB for music, but for video alone I definitely won't be buying it. I shouldn't need a newer laptop for it to run well. I can edit 4k video on my machine without much hiccups. But, I can't play 1080p videos in RB? The Lyric add-on is just as stuttery as the video. It's really a shame because I wanted to buy the DDJ-1000. I still *might* because it works with Virtual DJ. The video performance would make the free RB license that comes with it useless to me. Which really sucks. For reference on the same system VDJ plays back 1080p video flawlessly
