    That's a perfect place to start for a full Restoration. If you can't do the work yourself or pay to have it done, then sell it off. I'm sure someone would love to have the truest honesty of the work ahead of them. 99% of our projects is a game of hide and rust; where, the more we do, the more rust we find. I'd pay top dollar for a Dipped car in this condition rather than having all the surprises I've had to deal with over the years. I understand your frustration and feel your pain. "We're surrounded. That Simplifies the Problem." -Chesty Puller

    Damn, I would not want to be it that car in a crash. The fact you are thinking about all the ways you could save it speaks volumes to how much you must love that car. If it had of been me, I would have probably cut my losses and picked up a bottle of whiskey and spent the night listening to some old classic country music lol.

    That’s absolutely heart breaking 💔. One of my first cars was a 71 240z it had the 2.8 l engine with a 5spd manual 2.4 l carbed cylinder head.Learned a lot from it put alot of love into it. Unfortunately it had major cancer as most of these old Datsuns do had to scrap it broke my heart 💔.

    Owch. Yeah I'm feeling the pain on this one. I got an S13 (UK car from 1990) i chose to restore over...my Pulsar Gti-R which also rotted. It's a massive kick in the nuts, but, end result, on a car you're keeping. It's all worth it. Honest! ❤

  • @ColJonSquall1
    @ColJonSquall1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Ouch, saving grace is that you're now able to make the car exactly how you like from the ground up. Typically the cars here have no floors or boot trays left to work with from the rot.

    It’s doable Mr H, but only if you aren’t paying someone else, doing it yourself is time, you probably don’t have alot of that either! I love those dinky 510’s despite being an old rusty Camaro guy. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    It’s going to cost a shit ton of money to fix it but if it’s your dream car just stick to the plan of doing it I’m stages and it’ll get there eventually. There’s absolutely no point in buying another one because you will never know the true condition under the paint. It’ll be mint when it’s finished and you’ll be able to enjoy it for years.

    Nate, I seem to remember you imported this from Asia because 510s are rare in England.
    They’re much more common in the US but good ones aren’t cheap anymore. Finding a quality car might mean you import a LHD model--which will still be cheaper than all the labor on yours. 😊

    I feel the pain/disappointed of the "you got to be kidding me" moments - I'm a 2001 Land Rover Defender 110 owner - and have had to accept the more you dig the more you find and it's always gut wrenching after a dream and $$$ is already invested.
    I saw your thoughts progress mate and I feel it "it's my dream car" not a planned start point BUT it is THE start .... Just got to get over the eye watering ass puckering quotes ....
    And yes I feel the hurt of looking at other "lucky fu#$ckers who either have tons of $$$ or free or sponsored builds but don't live in the "out of own hide" world like us average petrol heads.
    Keep the faith and GL mate

    Bloody hell Nate, that chassis is proper knackered. It's always a awkward spot to be in, I've had a couple of motoring projects which have turned into money pits and there is always the thing of throwing good money after bad into them. But like you said its better the devil you know and the 510 is your dream car... so its worth sticking with. All the best chap.

    I would look at the other car for 10k, you can actually get hands on look at it. Take a piece of cloth and magnet to check for bondo. At the very least it could be a possible donor to Frankenstein, or vice versa. If its good 10k(car)+10k(paint) is far cheaper than the restore your looking at.

    What came to mind as I was watching this was the scene from the Jim Carrey movie The Mask were the loaner car conks out on the bridge , Jim gets out and slams the door and the whole car falls to bits ! To be blunt , from the point of view of your own personnel safety I think getting it dipped was money well spent as it does not look structurally sound , better a bit out of pocket and safe rather than saving a buck and ending up sorry .👍

    This kinda thing shows how much of a gamble buying these old cars is, though. So many cases where the car LOOKS immaculate, but then underneath, it's a horror film. Potentially dangerous to even drive, too. People flipping the cars don't care, just make it look pretty and sell it.
    But yeah, I dunno. If it was my dream car and I had the money to do it, and fixing it was possible, I'd probably say screw it and do it anyway if I just really wanted the car bad enough. But that's like a "money is no object" type of cash and I know I don't have it.
