I have a hairdryer with 2 temp settings: no heat and an extremely high heat setting. I wondered if I could lower the extreme heat by swapping out a component, but it seems like you’re saying that to lower the heat, it would require a design change in the diameter of the wire, and that sounds like more trouble than it’s worth to me. Am I understanding this correctly? (FYI - I did not open up the dryer yet to examine the parts.)
Yes, wire diameter and length are factors. So, the heater coil could be shortened by cutting it if the cut end can be properly reconnected to the circuit (no sparking at the connection point, electrical fire hazard)
