    This video covers some "negative" social experiences in China, e.g., smoking in public and the "Great Fire Wall". I see in the comments that many Chinese viewers got triggered by such depictions. As a Chinese myself, I totally understand their feelings but must say they are still in the middle of getting through their shares of "culture shock" in a world of free speech. The point is, the depiction here, even about the negative experiences, is rather friendly than critic. The tone of their performance is like "i am missing all these 'freedoms' I enjoyed in China" rather than morally accusing or hostilely mocking at them. I guess it will take some more time for them to understand.

    I just got back from a year living in Taiwan and this is so relatable hahaha right when I came back to the US I used to always forget my seatbelt, look both ways before crossing the street, and the worst thing was that for some reason I had an accent when speaking English... most of my reverse culture shock has gone away by now, but I think one lasting thing was the fact that no matter where I am or how close I'm standing to someone, I'll always speak REALLY REALLY LOUDLY. Even though I had to lose these habits in order to fit back in, I'll have to say I miss being able to haggle!!

    • @ashramshef
      @ashramshef 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      But... don't forget your seatbelt. Wherever you are.

    • @auesr
      @auesr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      the problem is that in some chinese cabs or I guess in this case maybe taiwanese cabs, they put seat covers that has either Velcro or some sort of binding that completely hides away the buckling part of the seat belt so you legit cannot buckle your seatbelt unless you take the seat cover off or cut a hole.

    • @FrankSui_
      @FrankSui_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha funny! Interesting about the accent. I tend to notice accent coming from westerners who have lived in China (or Taiwan) for a long time. But what I notice is that it's not "accent" in the sense of the pronunciation of words, but with tones. Mandarin has 4 tones plus a soft tone whereas English has no set tones. So if you've been speaking Mandarin a lot these 4 tones will likely come through when you speak English because they've been wired into your brain. I'm Chinese originally but lived majority of my life in the UK (including all my teenage years, with only 3 visits to China in the last 13 years). When I speak Chinese nowadays I don't do the 4 tones properly with each word, and in a sentence my tone would go up and down like it does in English. My family in China all say I don't speak Chinese very well anymore, but it is in fact better than it sounds.

    To my Chinese friends commenting, many of you didn't seem to understand that this is a comedy sketch. And the joke is really on the expats who have adopted some of your culture and when they go back home and do the same things as they did in China it doesn't fit there. We westerrns tend to like to laugh at ourselves and laugh I did! This was hilarious.

      I will admit that despite absolutely not believing in their thing with cold water causing stomach disruptions, it has against all my defenses apparently brainwashed me. If i have stomach discomfort and then drink something cold, i swear i'll feel an increase in pain. I swear it's purely psychosomatic, but crazy that even thinking/knowing that, it still happens.
