So glad you gave Intenso some love. This was one of my first purchases from Scent bird and absolutely love it. So much so I purchased a small bottle and then a back up 3 oz one.
Just tried Intenso and I love it. Back in the early 2000s, I started to look to up my hygiene game. Guys were starting to talk about safety razors and using real shaving products, the kind you have to use with a brush and a cup. They were particularly talking about a lavender one that sounded fantastic. So when I got into the dry down on Intenso, I was like this is what they were talking about. Wow, this is a gentleman's office scent for sure.
I recently picked up Intenso for $10 on a closeout (despite some of the lackluster reviews) and I love the stuff. Understated barber shop vibe. I'm not sure why it is hated on so much!
Intenso was the first fragrance I bought! I was in a store and tested arround 30 Frags and Intenso was the ONLY one I liked and not only liked but more super liked it!
Couldn't agree more on D&G Intenso, always wondered why always heavily reduced in the UK. I like the sounds of Ferrari Pure Lavender and will be sure to try it out, thanks. For me personally not a hated on fragrance but always overlooked by it's flankers, I love the original Prada Luna Rossa. Such a fresh, clean but masculine scent. Great for nicer weather. People often talk about Sport, Black and Carbon but this one doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.
Love D&G Intenso. I’ve heard a couple people say it’s close to the vintage bottles (I never had one..yet). Easily could be signature scent worthy, IMO.
I loved this video because you validated 2 of my odd/unpopular choices. I own Intenso and Anthracite and love them both. I rarely use the TF because it's impossible to find where I live (The Caribbean) and I don't want to waste it. I love both and am flattered that someone as discerning as you, agrees with my taste.
Visit never worked on my skin either. Whereas the frankincense in Bentley's For Men Absolute comes off a bit like cumin-y body odour for a couple minutes and then disappears, the frankincense in Visit comes off like cumin-y body odour the WHOLE time. 😂 So yeah, set it on fire. 🔥
For me it's another Tom Ford, Oud Minerale, that I love but that seems to be off-putting to most people. It's like they read on Fragrantica that it's "too strong" etc and automatically write it off. Same with Nasomatto Black Afgano which i find to have a nice soapy cleanliness to it that makes it not too harsh at all; yet most people write it off.
Awesome video Ash! I also love Intenso. Went through an entire bottle of it and need another. I also love L’insoumis, it’s actually my fave Lalique fragrance. And, Pure Lavender is my fave Ferrari as well. It’s like this video was made exactly for me. Finally, Anthracite sounds awesome. Makes sense that it would be earthy, dark, and smoky...since anthracite is the metamorphic rock form of coal. Be well Ash!
Great video Ashton! I just went and purchased the Tom Ford. I collect discontinued fragrances as well. I don’t wear it a lot because it is discontinued, but I love Gucci Nobile, and most people that smell it, don’t like it.
I like Dolce & Gabbana intense I think people are just caught up with what other people say to fit in instead of just forming their own opinion the fragrance is nice period
Anthracite is so impressive - an amazing marriage of TF Noir powderiness with an animalic Kouros-like funk. Like you, I find Intenso closer to the original formulation of Pour Homme than the current formulation - in fact that was the only reason I got a bottle, it's the last production version of original PH that I could get without paying eBay extortion prices. I also fell in love with Pure Lavender on first sniff, and now own a bottle for my summer bin and a backup.
I don't own it but agree Intenso is a goodie, better than every reformulation that came after the Made in Italy D&G pour Homme (that OG was indeed fantastico). I haven't bought Intenso yet as I have Nazareno Gabrielli Pour Homme which is similar to the D&G pour homme. Btw I don't hate Azzaro Visit but it left me a bit underwhelmed (and kind of reminded of CK Obsession Night a bit, which I prefer) so I sold it, it's not bad at all though, awesome unique bottle too (the 100ml).
lol Justin put out a great video the other day about people having different opinions on fragrances, if people make a blind buy thats on them. Its all subjective.
Thanks for this video. I totally passed on Intenso because of the hate. I trust your reviews. I have smelled the Tom Ford I had a decant of it. It is not a bad fragrance I just don't know the occasion to wear it. My wife didn't like it but she knows my taste and its never an issue. BTW I am really enjoying Cognac Cafe and getting lots of compliments and coworkers wanting to buy some. I've pointed them to you.
I never get compliments on my vintage Halston Z-14, Matchabelli Man's Cologne, or Cacharel Pour L'Homme, but I LOVE them. I DO get compliments on ADG Profumo. Oh well.
I have TF Anthracite ... very masculine, dark and very very “old school/ old guy smelling “. I don’t agreed with that nor I care. I loveeeeee it sooooo much and people/ students are always complementing me and others just think is “ too strong “.
Visit sits on the bottom shelf but when I do wear it I go three sprays for the work day. Fragrance I wear when staying home are Versace the Dreamer and Burberry Touch after a hot shower. When I'm clean and comfortable! Enjoying a quiet day at home is what I like about those two scents.
My wife bought me Anthracite for Christmas and I absolutely love it for myself as well. I've worn it to work a couple of times and gotten less than great reaction but for something to wear I enjoy 👌
I almost bought Intenso in a department store after the salesperson suggested it. I really liked it but didn't end up making the purchase. Though it will most likely be my next grab.
Thank you so much Ash. You're the only guy who talked about Noir Anthracite. It's so underrated & my wife and I loved it from the very 1st sniff. I also love Tobacco Oud which almost everybody else hates. Haha!
A fragrance that I absolutely LOVE is Bvlgari Wood Essence but it doesn't get great much love at all from fragrance reviewers. I'm almost addicted to that scent...lol
Interesting that you mentioned that Intenso smells more like the old formulation of D&G Pour Homme. I totally agree and I love Intenso as well for that reason. Plus the juice is blue, randomn fact lol.
For your information. There has been a change. I have a 200 ml bottle Made in France. I recently (July 2024) ordered a new one (125 ml). Now, that one is made in Italy. The same happened with the Pour Homme. 😉
I'm somewhat unapologetic with fragrance. I wear what I enjoy and tend to gravitate towards unusual and/or bold scents. I try to avoid following the herd but do enjoy many hyped and crowd pleaser scents. I really enjoy DG Intenso, to me it's what the OG 'Pour Homme' should have been originally and to my nose gives a faint nod to Nasomatto Baraonda, in parts of the dry down.........No?...ok just me then. 😄 Sampled TF Noir Anthracite but didn't click with it. Came across it again as an 'inspired by' from Perfume Parlour, grabbed a 50ml on a whim - ever so slightly different to the real deal but still a decent smart casual, autumn/winter cool weather scent. My wife hates it but most other people shout it out as a winner. Ironically I also have a very similar scent - Amoud Desert Voyage (inspired by Amouage Journey Man) which is awesome and my wife likes that one. Sigh! C'est la vie, I guess. 🙄😁
I picked up a bottle of Anthracite from FragranceUSA using your code a month or so ago and I absolutely love the fragrance. I like to layer something floral on top at some point during the dry down as I don’t notice much difference between the mid and the dry down and it still projects heavily off my skin at the 6-8 hour mark.
I love Roja Fetish Pour Homme and Hermes Bel Ami. I guess these would be considered "hairy chested, old school masculine," but I love them. No negative feedback, and even a compliment while wearing Fetish, but nobody in the community talks about these. Inferring most see these as a pass.
There’s one I LOVE that I don’t know if many guys have used as it I a “female” fragrance. Creed - Princess Oud. The name and bottle are super feminine but the scent is really spicy and deep (to me)
Do you know any alternative to the discontinued YSL la nuit homme frozen cologne? I just finished my last bottle and can't stand the lack of my fav scent
a fragrance I love but not many people do is Hommage a l´homme by Lalique. It may be due to the harsh opening or the oud note... I don´t know, but there are people that just can´t stand it.
Lalique L'Insoumis and Ferrari Pure Lavender are very underrated. The Texas winters tend to lean warm side. I've already worn both this year. Call me crazy, but I love to smell Serge Lutens Bapteme Du Feu, but would never wear it outside the house. I know what it smells like and I already know that folks will either turn up their noses or insult me. LOL.
I was so exited when i got bentley for man intense, put it own and i felt like a million bucks. I get close to my wife and she smelled it and she almost threw up and told me to never wear it again eventhough i only sprayed two times. She was pregnant but up untill now she hates that fragrance.
DG Intenso is such a great fragrance that I was even thinking of making it my signature scent but longevity and projection are joke - 4 hrs max. It's shame that such great scent have so bad performance. Right now it's not worth paying $50-60 for a bottle (and that's how much it costs in my country right now). Let's hope they reformulate it soon.
Versace Dreamer is the only fragrance i've ever bought (blind buy) that i've had to scrub off ever single time. I do really like Antonio Alessandria's stuff though, think it's way underrated niche juice
Love Anthracite and Noir Extreme... Though unfortunately others don't always. Like L'Insumis & Visit... Pure Lavender neither projects nor has sufficient longevity. Bright Neroli or Radiant Bergamot instead... Though obviously different types of fragrance than these, Noble Fig and Uomo are the best of this line!
I found that layering Intenso with the French Pour Homme gives the most complete experience to the original formulation that we will ever have. I don't have the new Italian formulation, but if anyone else has it in addition to Intenso, I would love to hear your thoughts on how they layer together vs the original formation.
So i bought victorian tobacco and i love it unfortunately for some reason everyone hates it but my brother likes it. Although people online seem to love it. It weird how only one person I've met irl like it.I'm still going to wear it though lol
I’ve got a few that are very nostalgic for me, I think they smell amazing, but I never get any feedback from them 😂 I guess its not necessarily a bad thing but it would be nice to get a compliment once in a while 😏 for me those fragrances are Issey Miyake L’eau D’issy Pour Homme Fraiche (2016), Hugo by Hugo Boss (cantine bottle), Zegna Uomo, and Dior Fahrenheit
I own and love all of these, especially Noir Anthracite (my 2nd fave TF) 😩 great choices, but I'll think twice before wearing them now... EDIT: one scent I love that others hate is Fat Electrician by ELdO.
