  • Marilyn footage singing to JFK on his gala birthday bash on May 19th 1962. The running joke for the evening, as planned, was that Marilyn was late! it was planned that way for the event. Everything we see Marilyn do on stage was rehearsed right down to her arm movements and jumping up and down at the end of the song as we can see in the rehearsal photos before the event. so Marilyn did this spot on as planned.

    Rewatching this… has made me a bit upset that they allowed Kim to wear her dress. This historic moment will never be replaced. Marilyn’s dress was made for her and it deserved to be put up forever with this memory. What a shame…..🥺♥️I’m sorry Marilyn

      I’m sorry, I don’t see Kim’s fault here. If I, a business entity (Ripley’s) has important pieces of history, why would they allow any amount of money to be accepted in order for the dress to leave and be worn? Kim can ask for whatever she wants and attempt to throw money at it. It is up to the entity in question, in possession of the item to allow them to wear it. Ripley’s isn’t getting enough backlash.

      She performed as she was supposed to, down to deliberately being late. Peter Lawford jokingly introduced her many times during the show as a running gag for her propensity for being chronically late to wherever she was supposed to be. She was SUPPOSED to be the last entertainer for the birthday bash, and she made the birthday party the legend that it has become. How odd that Jackie chose not to attend the bash.

      Marilyn Monroe did not commit suicide, She was actually killed by the US Government because of her relationship with JFK, the hit was called by Jackie Kennedy (JFK's Wife), because of there relationship and she also called the JFK hit but did not expect it at that time in the car it was a surprise to her. The Way she was murdered was it was late at night and crooked Government officials knocked on the door and she opened it they grabbed her and took her to her room by force while she was struggling they put pills in her anal rectum and held down her hands and body down on the Bed and beat her in the face while she was struggling to escape them that's why in the Autopsy and Death Photos you can see Bruises on her face, you see it don't make sense why would she punch herself in the face they beat her and punched her more until she fell asleep from the pills they shoved in her Anus and died, then rearranged the room to make it look like a Suicide, and made it seem like a Suicide Overdose.

      @Tay 🍄🌿wrote, "...She may have been a “sex icon” but the public dehumanized her and belittled her forming her into that image alone, and took away who she was as a person... "
      That is the single BEST comment I have ever read about MM, aka Norma Jean. MM was a character, not a flesh and blood person. The flesh and blood person was Norma Jean. The public only wanted Marilyn, so she had to subjugate her SELF, and live as MM 24/7. Norma Jean was eventually forced to no longer exist.
      But... MM herself chose the dress and the "cut" of the dress, in order to dazzle the audience (that was her intended goal), and compete with starlets coming up at the time, like Elizabeth Taylor. And it worked. She rose to the top again. Was she happy there? Yes and No. No one can say for sure one way or the other. She certainly was proud of her body, as she had every right to be.
      Ironically, when Mrs. Murray saw her in the dress during a fitting she remarked to her, "It might be more attractive, if it weren't so vulgar'". How dare an employee shade her boss like that! Instead of taking offense, MM's reply to Mrs. Murray was up and bubbly... She said, "Be brave, Mrs. Murray, be brave!"

    This is an historic moment but I wish it had never happened. I see it as Marilyn making fun of herself and showing herself in a way that highlights, even exaggerates, what she didn't want to be and how she didn't want people to think of her.

      @mbblover 10 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      sad, but i think so too.. on one hand, her looking spectacular and sexy, but on the hand caricaturing herself and giving the crowd what she "thought" they wanted... but what about what she wanted? i think she was torn 24/7 on what her public persona should be and what she wanted the public to want about her and what she wanted to want about herself.. i think all this became worse as she got older and wanted to keep the adulation and love and yes, the global megastar fame in anyway she can... she i have no doubt hated herself later that night for doing this.....one wonders, what if she came out in a classy long black dress and sang the song properly at her best singing ability? would the crowd REALLY be that bored or uinterested with this? (did she think this?) if so, then shame on the crowd and public for wanting only her dumb blonde ultimate sex symbol image and persona for their own selfish reasons..

      mbblover Thanks for your great comments and ideas. You've taken my thought several steps further. If Marilyn's performance had been different and more dignified I believe her legacy and the memory of her would be different from what it is today just based on that one performance that never did but should have taken place. That's never come up before: how did she feel after the performance? With the paradoxes and conflicts in her life and career I don't see how Marilyn could have felt good about the performance for the President. Too I wonder how Marilyn felt about wearing that sequined outfit (I think it's just over the line into vulgarity) for the rest of the evening though that's something that may not have been quite as important for her as Marilyn didn't seem to mind showing a lot or wearing revealing outfits.

It's not rational to believe that the Kennedys weren't targeted, obviously, they were, and not just by the individuals who assassinated them. The bravado of JFK well known adultery with Monroe and adultery rumors with other beauties placed a curse on his life. The dark side of JFK was abusing using his power. I think Jackie already knew about JFK and Marilyn before this sexy burlesque birthday event. There are stories about Bobby Kennedy and Marilyn too. Marilyn was a mere pawn who was destroyed in the JFK relationship. I think her suicide was directly connected to her romance with JFK. I think she loved him and knew she couldn’t have him.

    holy shit everyone must have loved JFK... look at that fucking cake!... Now days is it that no one is genuine and, or kind enough to do that for a president, or is it that JFK was so exceptional as a human being that that was a 1 time thing? I wish I could have lived back then just to see in person the best humanity had to offer in JFK

      JFK was probably the most beloved president we've ever had. Even the mob loved him. Jews, catholics, whites, blacks, everybody loved him. Except for a couple people of course.

    As a great niece of Joe D,. I was related to Marilyn by marriage. I was six when she died and I still remember it like it was yesterday. It makes me so sad to think about how short and tragic her life actually was. She was so beautiful and she was a great comedian and who knows what great things she could have done had she lived.

      Her and Joe should have worked on their marriage and stayed together. He was THE one who truly loved her and would take care of her. I've heard that Joe was a hard man, a true Italian in many ways, but Italians are known for that and being loyal.

    That song was her sentence to death. She thought that Kennedy would leave Jacqueline. After that song the president decided to get rid of her. I think was quite naive.
