I am in NY & you pretty much nailed it. Everything you mentioned is everything I've been complaining about for years. Their is nowhere that I am aware of to "overland" with your vehicle on the east coast. I also own an FJ Cruiser and I feel so limited with not many options. Overcrowding, over regulated and lack of usable public lands are definitely the main problems. Good luck on your quest but unfortunately I don't think you will find it here.

That’s good to hear someone on the same page. It’s unfortunate that is the reality because it really can be beautiful in a lot of areas. I would love to see the day where the East is more accessible

O wow I couldn’t imagine being from your communist state! Such a beautiful place controlled by a liberal city! You have the same problem we have in PA. The tree huggers closed all the beautiful recreation areas! We are all like dogs fenced in a small back yard if we want to take in nature with our off road toys nowadays! NY. Is a no go zone for me because of the gun laws!

Florida has a trail system that’s over 1400 miles long. Georgia has multiple interconnecting trails that are hundreds of miles long if not over 1000.

The south has a lot of those, the FAT(Florida), the KAT(Kentucky), Georgia Traverse, SCAR(South Carolina). But I get what he's saying. The PNW has TONS of remote forested areas/fire roads etc ....

Hmmm. I had no idea. Definitely makes me glad to be in Colorado. I can load up with the RTT and hit basically any forest road or 4x4 trail and pretty much camp just about anywhere I please... for free. Pretty cool.

Yeah you definitely have it good. East coast is still dope, some things just need to change.

As a fellow Pennsylvania resident my favorite thing to say is “at end of our off-road trails we get rewarded with a gaswell and a bunch of empty beer cans” and can’t forget the pinstripes down the paint. Have you checked out the Allegheny National Forest at all? I’m local to it and so thankful because it sounds like it’s the only decent camping/off-roading area in PA

From Pennsylvania, and I have the exact same sentiments. I loathe having to reserve a site - not to mention pay for a site. I want to spontaneously explore, and pull over and camp. Not in Pennsylvania. 🤷‍♂️

One of my biggest gripes is that same thing... there is not much area to truly explore and get remote in PA. Just a function of high population and restricted access.

This needs to be addressed somewhere, I’m on the same boat as you! Trying to find a suitable place to camp off grid!
    Edit:
I think the only proper place to “overland” on the east coast is the Georgia Traverse and places around northern SC and western NC.

I have heard that it is a great area, I’m hoping to head down at some point within the next year!

100%% All of this! I'm in NJ and there's nowhere to just cruise off-road and camp where you want. The state maps say "OFF-ROADING IS ILLEGAL" Which they mean going off trail is, which I get and clearly people disrespecting wild areas caused this problem before we even got into it. (I just got into this last fall too.) Want to find wild spaces to take my family to just unwind for a long weekend.

Damn I just moved to Maine with the hopes of getting an SUV and start over landing. I figured with all the forest's there would be ALOT of places to go but apparently not 🙁

Maine is actually one of the best places in the East… check out North Maine Woods. It’s extremely remote and I’m headed there in a few weeks again because there is so much to explore

I've seen a few TH-cam videos of people going there on overlanding/camping trips. I literally just moved from Florida to Maine last weekend
      lol.

Just be thankful you’re not in the eastern half of canada. It’s far worse than the eastern US

Apparently you haven’t been down the southern east coast, over a 1000 miles of trails in Georgia alone, along with Tennessee, Kentucky, etc, so if it sucks so much for you, Move!!

I’m binging your videos! Pa does suck for overlanding because all the spots from when I was your age are closed because of jag offs that did stupid stuff that got them Darwin awards or the tree huggers threw down wood chips and call the areas preserves. I feel terrible that my son will never experience the woods like I did as a kid! You should do a video on the spots we can go here in Pennsltucky! HMU we’ll go together! My rig is stupid… M1010 bathroom eat in kitchen bedroom living room fridge walk in closet solar stove storage and so on. It’s all in the footprint of an 85 Chevy truck. Lmk if your ever around Pittsburgh for a tour!
