My all time favorite Commodores song! 💯 Written by Lionel in memory of bass player Ron LaPread's wife who had passed away after a long battle with cancer. Always brings a tear to my eye.
WOW! I didn't know that! Makes the song that much more powerful!!
You are soright!!!!
This is from the same album as Easy & Brick house and is a truly great album. This track is both emotional & aspirational , one of Lionel's best vocal performances.
Wow!!! i didnt know that...
I've always loved this song, I even remember when I first heard it and how it just took me away to a place of peace and relaxation. I didn't, however, realize that this was written in memory of Ron's wife. Thank you for sharing that info and allowing me to appreciate and love this song even more.
Asia and BJ, I went to college with the Commodores. It was nothing to see them on the yard or the cafeteria. My wife is from Tuskegee and grew up with Lionel and Ronald LaPread, as well as Tom Joyner. They were the house band at the Elks Lodge on fish fry Friday's. Lionel wasn't singing then. The song Zoom is beautiful and has an even greater meaning. It's really a heartbreaking story involving Ron LaPread's wife Cathy who died of cancer. Ron actually was working on the song and even though Cathy was sick she helped him with the melody. Ron asked Lionel to finish it because he was having a hard time focusing on it. If you're interested, you should look up the meaning behind the song Zoom. You'll get a better understanding of the song. By the way, Ron called my wife and I a few months ago and we had a great time talking with him and catching up. I really enjoy your reactions. Take care!
Thanks for sharing this ☺
@@jenniferfoster1692 You're welcome! Really had a great time back then!
@@miltonslocum8957 Sounds like it, what a great experience. So nice that Ron keeps in touch.
@@jenniferfoster1692 For an inner-city kid Tuskegee was a life changing experience. As I told Ron, it was 'Easy Like Sunday Morning'.🤗 By the way, it had been quite awhile since we talked with Ron. He's been living in New Zealand and while state side, he got our number from my wife's brother. Anyway, it's nice to know you enjoyed my comments.
@@miltonslocum8957 Take care!
If ever a song can make you cry from sheer beauty, it would be this
One of the-coldest jams ever from the late 70s. The Commodores at their finest!!! Great insight from BJ!
Thanks for listening
@@AsiaandBJ my pleasure God bless
I hope y'all know this is Lionel Richie on lead vocals. He was very successful with The Commodores and even more when he went solo in the 80s. I had just turned 18 in 1977 when this album came out. This music was the soundtrack of people my age and just everyday music. Now at 63 it is Golden just like the memories.😍
Lisa E. Did you like Karen Carpenter?
@@michaelasay8587 I still LOVE The Carpenters!! We learned and sang their songs in my junior high chorus class🤗🤗😍😍
At nearly 62, it's perhaps even more Golden bc I have so much more appreciation for what is behind it all.
This is on the soundtrack of my life! Lionel Ritchie left all his good stuff with the Commodores.
I love the Commodore’s! They are so incredibly talented.
Lionel Richies voice alone is a gift, but with all the other fabulous singers in the group.
So good!!
That was Lionel, and Zoom is one of the greatest songs! It gives you hope!
my sis who died in 96,,,,loved this song,,,,always think of her when i hear this
i have maurice white,,of EWF, only solo album,,,at least that i know of ,from 1985 on CD,,,the hit on that album was his version of (stand by me)
🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
My absolute all-time favorite Commodores song! Timeless message by a legendary group.🔥👍💕
This is my sons favorite song. First song he heard when he was born. Everytime I pick him up from the airport or drop him off, he has to hear this song.
Asia & BJ, you'll love their "Three Times A Lady", "Brick House" and "Easy" !!!
Eddie Murphy does a cool cover..
Disappointed when I realized they didn’t even know it was Lionel Richie singing the whole time
Man, I have to listen to this song ever now and then...takes me so many places, beautiful timeless classic..
This is my favorite Commadores song!! I listen to it like everyday because it lifts me up and brings me joy. I'm so glad you guys reacted to it. Keep going with them, they have so many great songs.
Me also. I have it on my workout playlist.
Wife here..The Commodores were my childhood...,I Loved This band from the time I was a very small child...(Lionel Ritchie 's voice is Soooo Calming.)..Amazing doesn't even begin to explain this legendary Song, Artist and Band...Gorgeous...The instrumentation of this song is STUNNING..And the Lyrics PROFOUND!!!👍💯
Several months ago I rediscovered this song for a memorial after a 40 plus year absence...
I wept.
I knew this song was powerful, but the meaning of the song is prophetic and unbearably beautiful and majestic.
This is one of the best reactions to this song. I would have requested it for you two, but I seem not to get requests answered. But, lo and behold!!! God answers prayers!!!!! You don't know how joyful I felt when you two reacted to this. Great job!!! You two are among the best. Continue to listen to this song. Deepen your meaning of it. It will continue to bless you. Thank you!!!! 🙏🏾👏🏾
Great request. On an album with Easy and Brick House, this was my go to song.
I love this song! The Commodores have such a large catalog of hits! They could do no wrong! Lionel Richie’s voice is everything and so is his song writing skills! ❤❤
1977 straight soul music from that era real lyrics "Zoom" It called music memories ...Nathan Hale High Senior High School 1977 Graduation...Slow dancing and roller skating did both...1968 Dodge Sports Car
This entire album was fantastic!! I remember coming home from school and putting it on, laying on the floor and....zoom zoom
Yes that album is the best album along with their other album hot on the tracks which both sold over 2 and a half million copies
Yes.. one of my favorites by them.. still on my old school playlist.. that is Lionel Richie on vocals
My favorite Commodores song
They are fabulous and had so many hits.
My group of friends went to every concert we could get to. We saw the Commodores they blew the roof off! They sung this, and all their hits. Such good, good days and friends.
Love seeing young people’s appreciation for our classics🙏🏾
Think about it for a minute, this was standard fare on the radio back to the day. I'm blessed to have grown up being steeped in music like this.
A Masterpiece
I played this whole album all the time back in 7th grade. So smooth.
Asia, Zoom hits you in the heart! Lionel Ritchie sang that one sooo beautifully. I enjoyed this reaction immensely!
My favorite Commodores song! Back in the day I played this over and over to escape the stress.
Yes that is Mr. Richie. He was their lead singer and major song writer.
Best Commodores tune out there!
Yep that's Lionel. This is my favorite smooth jam from them. Such a powerful message.
Zoom,is that taking a drive on a sunny Saturday type of song.
My sister used to play this all the time!!!❤❤❤
High on Sunshine and Sweet Love are my next fav Commodore songs after this one! Yes, that was the one and only Lionel Richie!
They had a song when I was a child entitled BRICK HOUSE and when i tell you we had a neighbor who would seemingly wait for that song to come on before she'd come outside in tiny hotpants and a halter top and she knew exactly what she doing..lol this is before surgical procedures..
This was a Great Hit Song To React To. And A Really Really Great Breakdown On The Song BJ. You Were Almost Preaching There Brother👏🏾😇👏🏾Great Reaction Y’all👍🏾💯👍🏾
Asia, that is how I listened to this song the first time I heard it. I felt every single word and I felt every beat. It takes you away.
A few songs to review. (Feel Me Cameo,) (I'm Leaving Baby Con Funk Shun), (Gigalos Get Lonely Too, Morris Day and The Time) (Play Another Slow Jam, Midnight Star) (Anticipation The Barkays) (Portuguese Love, Tina Marie)
My all time favorite song ever

I grew up in the 70s with the Commodores great great memories i wish I could go back miss those days.
I seen Richie sing to a little beautiful black girl and made her tear up with his wonderful voice.
Yes the group met as Freshmen at Tuskegee. Lional was the lead singer.
My choice Commodores song - takes me back to 1983 when my life was different!
Yes, that's the phenom Lionel Ritchie! He was successful with and without the group! He's an awesome writer, producer, and vocalist!
🔥🔥💛👏🏾👏🏾 It's Lionel, the guitar/strings for me!
this song makes me think am I truly free in this place called America

Commodores favorite Zoom
I FEEL SANCTIFIED will be in the early Commodores
Oh snap! The Commodores. The musicianship is top tier.
Now that's Music
Great jam and great reaction my friends.
Hi guys. I saw your reaction to Wilson Pickett a while back and I forgit at rge time to mention Arthur Conley's track of Sweet Soul Music and Percy Sledge's When a Man Loves a Woman.
Both well worth a listen.
Love your show. Very best wishes.
You guys gotta check out the group “ switch “ .. I wanna be closer from 1978 live .. OMG another old school r&b slow jam hit
You loved ZOOM, check out 'This Is Your Life', true Fans understand, another mind bender!!
Lionel Richie , yes! And all the instrumentation!
this song has a laid back melody
Beautiful song; glad you got to experience this one. Lionel Richie is a hall of fame writer for a reason!
Lionel Richie became the lead singer of the Commodores because he was the lead song writer in the band though he wrote with his band mates and he never learned how to read music 🎶
Classic soul at its finest ✌🏾
Yep its Lionel Richie! The song is seriously deep....The story about this song being written after a fellow band member's wife passed away from cancer, is true.......
Fantastic Fantastic Thank you Asia & BJ ✨🙏🏾✨
Love this song so much!!! Touches the heart. ❤️
Written and produced by the the LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Lionel Richie
Definitely distinctly Lionel Richie lead on the Zoom track
We sang out loud in the middle of the Club the night you died...and my life changed forever ..love this song......RIP Vern and Teri
All time favorite Commodores song of all time!
Best song ever! Dang I miss them.
This is the song by the Commodores that started it all off… This was a huge hit and it was good I still love this song because I love the Commodores. But this was the song that made them a name and the rest is history😊
Lionel made great music with the Commodores, and dance music for us slow dancers. The 70's had great groups, and single performers. Thanks for bringing the memories back. Love you both and the channel. A follower 🎶🎧🎤🎶🔥🫶👍💜💚
I always loved the commodores!!! One of my favorite groups. Lionel Richie is a legend
Yes it is Lionel Richie. He's the lead singer. This song takes me back when I saw them in concert. It was beautiful!!
BJ wins this one, Lionel Richie was still with and lead singer with the Commerdores
Beautiful song. Lionel is one of the best singers/composers ever!!! The Commodores were an amazing band!!
interesting jeffrey osbourne left Ltd in that period too,,,his solo album came in 82 too
Another classic song by the Commodores that I recommend, but you may also already be familiar with. And that is "Oh No" and to be honest it probably is my favorite by them.
This song brings back so many memories just love this song.
Now, this is still that classic song, I will never get tired of listening too!
Absolutely Lionel Ritchie & one of his most powerful vocal performances.
Hell yeah, thanks 💯😊 Asia and BJ. This is, my best ,Commodores Song Period 💯, next let's do Atlantis by the Isley Brothers. Mr Ritchie rocking the lead.
Yes that him. All of the best songs were with Richie leading. Amazing catalog!
My favourite commodores song, brilliant 🤩
Yes that’s Lionel Ritchie before he went solo, he lead and wrote most hits by the Commodores ..
Long time since hearing this❤
Nice song. I don't think I've heard this one, hmm doesn't ring a bell, but it's good. Legendary band right here.
This song makes me cry it’s so beautiful! Lionel is singing it from a place in his heart !❤
❤I love your reactions. It brings me joy to see a different generation discovering and appreciating the music of my youth. This song is magical. It definitely takes you away from reality for a little while. Summer of ‘77, I was 13 years and 10 months old and totally obsessed with Zoom and ‘Don’t Ask My Neighbor’ by the Emotions. The music always takes me back.
This was the group Lionel Richie headlined before he went solo, classic stuff here!
One of my favorite songs in high school. My girlfriend of 3 1/2 years in HS, we used to sing in the car Lionel Richie songs. I spent many times in my car waiting for my girl to come out. We would spend hours parked either in the East Bay hills overlooking the entire Bay Area. Seeing "The City" San Francisco and the Golden Gate bridge under a Stary night. Good music, fantastic views and holding the one you love. I miss those times
Yes, it is Lionel Richie singing lead.
My favorite commodores song!
One of my favorites ♥️
That's definitely Lionel on the country style r&b vocals.
lionel left the group in 81,,,his first solo album came in 82
Of course that was Lionel Richie singing. He was the main standout of that group. Wrote and song all of their biggest hits. Except "Brickhouse."
This is where Lionel Ritchie started, folks. This SONG is AWESOME.... with soul. Music from the 70s was often sending the message of uNIVERSAL LOVE, PEACE, NO WAR....like EWF, Marvin Gaye and so many others were "preaching" what was on our minds then. We had hope.
