Ray - what rod is Steve Curtin using? Cane or Hexagraph? Make me laugh using 10lb line, where most of the "experts" nowadays recommend 12-15lb for for barbel that are, let's say, quite a bit smaller.

Thanks for getting back to me@@rollingpinboy, It would be amazing to think maybe at leat 1 has made it through hiding away in the snags, just out of curiosity Ray, did all the fish stay in that loop or did any drop off dwn stream infront of the two fields b4 kickles... Kickles is still private but I have access to the 2 fields that join Adams, I've not even been down to look at them as I only found out yesterday,

Hi Phil...Most of the known fish at the time were logged and identifield by a few local anglers probably from mid 1990's onwards up until 2004 ish. Most were recaptured over and over again gaining weight and fluctuating up and down in weight from summer to winter to summer again. Some of the known fish disappeared at times, going downstream and some probably went upstream via the backwater which leads to upstream of the weir. There was always younger back up barbel which were smaller in weight around 8-9lb and few juveniles. Also, MKAA and the EA stocked 1,000 juvenile barbel in 2001/2 into Adams, just in case the barbel were not breeding and recruiting properly. Yes, some individual barbel moved out of Adams frequently down to the 2 fields on the NPAA bank, but mainly below onto kickels and way downstream. They ventured up and down river at certain times of the year and definately after capture. Some were more resident on kickles but came up to Adams at times.

...not sure if any of the original big barbel are still alive as the lifespan is around 25 -30 years more or less. It would also take 10-12 years for a female barbel to become a low double from scratch. Some known barbel suddenly disappeared without trace, never to return, and others were found dead on the banks killed by otters. Their descendants/offspring may still be there with the same big fish genes.

@@rollingpinboy Thank you Ray for the Info buddy, really appreciate that mate, I always fish alone and I'm lucky if I see 10 anglers a year as I tend to stay away from pressured areas, I can't get on kickles but i can get to the 2 feilds below Adams on the npfa water, and I've also got the. Free bit below kickles going into Newport itself but the flow is so slow or next to nothing all I've had down that end is real big chub to 7.15 and there are 1 or 3 carp there too I've had all my barbel from npfa waters and there are a few still there with the 14 I've had twice, there is a 16 there somewhere top end though more behind Abbey pits and a new 15 popped up last year that nobody recognised so there is something to go at on npfa but I want something better from the Ouse, I know a few were killed at Adams and that for me will be one of biggest angling slaughters in British history, but I can't ignore the fact that the others just disappeared without a trace, somewhere they must have found refuge and maybe at least tried to repopulate in a new environment where there was less preesure from anglers and otters in the way of snags and water depth to give themselves a chance of living,
I'm sorry if I seem to keep chatting, I fish alone and the wife says I give her head ache talking about the river, I don't have any mates here in Milton Keynes as I'm originally from Worcestershire, grew up fishing the river Severn as a boy, been in mk about 8 years now, so I love having a chat about anything river related, especially big chub and barbel, I don't drive so rely on getting dropped by the wife, which sometimes can be an advantage especially with limited parking on the river in most stretches, but is a pain when I want to move stretch. Hence the reason I fish Newport because everything g is in walking distance if I travel light enough having a good rove, Thank you for replying to me I really appreciate that Ray,

Hi, what is the song on the opening i.e the driving sequence? One of your own? Thanks Nick

Hi Nick...It is called 'My Friend Billy or some of us called it 'Kids from the Eastside'. .It was our unfinished demo recorded at Jet Records studios in London and written by Steve Ralphs our bass player with input from the other members of Loose Talk..
It was recorded at the same session as Judge Dredd (2nd single)and was going to be our 3rd single., but the band split up soon after. For some reason our management company tried to sell the song to another band in the USA, and we found out. So we told them to f**k off.
I have not put this song up on youtube yet as a seperate Loose Talk vid/song.
In the original Adams Mill vid, i put an AC/DC track on it 'Back in Black' which fitted quite well on the driving bit of the vid, but i replaced it with 'My Friend Billy' due to copyright reasons etc.

Thanks very much for the reply Ray. I can see AC/DC working well but love the feel of that song, it is a cracking tune. There's something I've always liked about demos - must have come from my time working as a Saturday boy in the music shop, listening to old box of demo tapes.....

Iv'e just started to edit the vid, so i can put My Friend Billy up seperately just as the title track with that driving fishy footage. The original cassette where i dragged it from is buried away somewhere, so i will do a proper re-recording of it when i find it. Interestingly, regarding your work in a record shops and listening to demo's, I used to work for Straight Music(promoters) and a few others back in the mid 1970's thru the 80's onwards. I have around 200+ old band demo audio cassette tapes buried away somewhere to where bands used to send us them trying to get support gigs at different venues. Obviously, most never got a major gig at the top venues or as supports... but some did.
