Thing about this situation is as she said he was hardly ever around. So in her perspective she’s thinking oh now you wanna be a parent when I’m already in my late teens. It’s hard to respect someone who was pretty much never there for you.

Neil Patrick Harris actually talked about that when he was asked what started the whole "Nobody ever sees Barney eat" joke in How I Met Your Mother. It was actually started as a legitimate thing the actor did so that he was never missing his lines. Turns out it's incredibly difficult to eat and act according to the directors instructions at the same time.
^along with this, i've read that most scenes need at least a few takes. So at some point the actors get full and the right take doesnt end up including eating
James Gandolfini ate ( and drank ) during every take playing Tony on sopranos. He was an artist the way he would play eating scenes.

@@christianhackl474in many jurisdictions across the US, it is. The rule in my area is 2 years if one person is 18. It allows for a high school senior to date a junior, but not a freshman without getting in trouble.
Also, I think in some states as long as both partners are in high school it's fine.

She is not wrong about him being an absent father, but everything he said to her was valid. It would be one thing if he was absent, unapologetic, and just tried to demand authority, but he wasn't. He acknowledged his mistakes, reasonably expressed his concerns. She was wrong for automatically shooting it all down.

This movie definitely had some misogyny in it. But I think the premise was solid and it was one of Mel’s better works that wasn’t an action movie.
