    I couldn't find the answers to my questions regarding this drill press, but after watching this video you have answered every single one of them. Thank you!

      No problem. I've had airt fora while now and I really like the ease of being able to adjust the speed easily. It's well worth buying. Not prefect but a great little bit of kit. There's a link above in the description to buy the one I got. Cheers.

    Great review! Lot of interesting features on that drill!! One thing I think you would like is to build a heavy duty box to mount the Drill press to. It will raise the entire drill up around 6 to 8 inches. Makes a huge difference! 😃👍

      Not a bad idea. Especially as I’m 6-2 and find bending down a pain in the back. I’m always figuring out ways to lift things up or to prevent bending down!
      I’m not gonna put it on a wheeled base, as it’s light enough to move about but I do want to build something, so that all different types of drill bits and to hand and organised. Perhaps some side wings or drawers underneath?
      Some side flanges to be able to clamp it to the worktop wouldn’t hurt either.

      I changed my mind in the end and put it on a wheeled base. It was an upcycled one which I got for free and put caster on it. I think it went up about 8 inches anyway, so it worked out well for me in the end. I've not done a video on it but you can see it in the interview I did when BeardX16 invaded my workshop.

    Looks a damn sight easier to move than my 6ft 1960s Fobco drill press!

      I suspect easier to nick as well. Swings and roundabouts but should hopefully do the job.

    Think you need a slower speed with the larger forstener bits…more cutting…less burning..

      100% agree with you. I’m getting better with it all the time.

    A drill press is one tool i dont have yet. Will be interesting to hear how you get on with it

      Cheers Grumpy. Mostly happy with it, although first impressions of the chuck aren’t great but that may just be me doing it wrong. Will definitely do a follow up video.

    Nice bit of kit Ian

      Cheers. One of those tools I alluded to earlier. Which I realised I needed after freehand drilling some holes that were akin to being drilled by a drunkard.

      At this rate one of the next jobs I need to do, is beefing up the security on the old workshop!

    It really hurts how you abuse that machine. Use the proper RPM when drilling to avoid burning the material and damaging the drill bit and the machine. Also, the way you use the machine is freaking dangerous. You MUST lock the motor BEFORE inserting a drill, and keep it locked. Read the manual, especially page 7. You must follow the safety instructions, and most of all, you should NOT demonstrate bad habits on TH-cam to teach others, because you, or somebody else, will get seriously injured when using the machine the way you do.

    Cannot seem to find a HORSE POWER rating, I have. 3/4hp bench type, not good with 5/8th or higher bits in mild steel. Rpm 300-400, how does this do with a 3/4 steel bit…through 1 inch steel??

    • @essentialhandyman
      @essentialhandyman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gotta be honest with you slugg. I don't use it that often for drilling metals and have never used it to drill through an inch of steel.

      @@essentialhandyman No, problem. Still your vide was useful and I think we can live without that laser.

    I don't know why you nag about the machine, why buy it if you don't like it? Also, that's not the way you use a bench drill, you don't just let the wheel go, you FOLLOW the turn up. EVERY bench/pillar drill which is well oiled and smooth will move fast up if you let the handle go. Otherwise there is something wrong with it, or is mishandled. There are also screws you can adjust to make the movement less smooth if you don't want that "harsh" as you call it "smooth" as I call it, movement. Personally I want the fast and "harsh" movement, because it is a safety thing for me. If I let the wheel go it is because something bad happened and in that case I want the fastest possible movement up and away from what I am drilling. LEARN the machine first BEFORE you try to review it. By the way, you are beating a dead horse nagging about that wheel. It's been done to death on TH-cam, so you are about six years late on that. Personally, I have nothing against it after about five years of using the machine. But the chuck is definitely worth changing, as I did in this video: th-cam.com/video/nCqVoaGVK8g/w-d-xo.html

    Sharpen your spade bits with a file

    • @essentialhandyman
      @essentialhandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're 100% correct. I bought a new set of spade bits for site work but I've still got to sharpen my spade bits. Maybe I'll do a video on sharpening the different types of drill bits? Cheers.
