Barney Miller was the most accurate police show ever broadcast on television. As a Violent Crimes detective for many years, there were personalities and situations that matched real life. Brilliant show.

The scene with Levitt at the end is BRILLIANT. Really demonstrates why this was such a great show. The characters were PEOPLE, to be admired, but flawed and human all the same... and possessed of enough integrity to admit they were wrong. GREAT episode.
Exactly! Even a character like Leavitt who is mostly comic relief has layers and depth to him. Every character was flawed, funny but not one dimensional cartoons like they could've been in the wrong hands. That was all Danny Arnold because Hal Linden said that he often asked the actors if he felt they might have played the scenes a little over the top or silly in rehearsals if they would seek help from a police officer like that. Brilliant cast and writers!

Good ol’ Barney Miller. Got my 33 year old son to watch with me, good laughs! One of the very few sitcoms my father watched when households had one TV and 4 networks (reruns on channels 36 & 48 from Boston). Living in NH, we only got ABC and PBS. So, it was outside all the time and Saturday morning cartoons. Every week day night, 6 o’clock news…
This is a really great episode. All the casts was great but man the writers really gave Leavitt and Harris some strong character stuff here. Both characters got to show such different sides of themselves: The usually self absorbed Harris showing some genuine appreciation for Mr. Golden and the usually brown nosing and boy scout Leavitt being revealed as the "snitch" as well as standing up for himself and being so genuine with the guys. This is probably the moment the squad officially accepted him as one of their own. Where is characterization, writing and acting like this in today's sitcoms?

Watching it as an adult I can see just how good it was. One of my favorite episodes was when Wojo brought in hash muffins his girlfriend had made ! They all had one or more and got stoned. Nick came in and said “has anyone seen my legs? They’re about this long?”, Holding his arms out to show how long. My mother, who was a straight arrow, almost died laughing. She was a convert after that. We never missed another episode. I MISS BARNEY MILLER!, ,
Hal Linden was so well-known, he got an episode on the Muppet Show and ended up against the talent of Gonzo the Great.(Dave Goelz). 4th of July vs. Christmas!
I love the way this is a three-camera show but not performed in front of a live audience. It has that stagey quality but with the more polished and relaxed atmosphere of a single-camera production. Quite unique!
I was just bored, and looking for old tv shows to watch, and didnt bother to read the discription, and got to the part where they brought the guy in and he start blowing up about the trilaterals,my jaw hit the floor,I couldnt believe it. Check for the episode where the Chinese detective is talking about David rockefeller.Boy,this is creepy.Great find.
+poor man's kung fu This episode like so many was "ripped from the headlines". Members of the Trilateral Commission had just released a paper called "On the Governing of Democracies" which said that the U.S. had an "excess of democracy" and that government should be more centralized. This report was not secret and there was a lot of anger and fear around what it meant. BTW Yemana is Japanese. He used to be mistaken for Chinese fairly often and one of his catch phrases is "I'm not Chinese."
+Eileen D You're welcome! After I posted that I searched around online and the report I'm talking about had actually come out about six years previously, but people were definitely still talking about it and were very concerned about the TLC -- especially in light of Reagan being elected. (This episode aired in January '81 but had probably been written some months previously.) Note that the main story of the episode is the field associate being a co-worker (someone you think you can trust) -- and then Dietrich reveals he's a member of the TLC, albeit one who takes Mr. Klein seriously and agrees with him.

I seem to recall a different ending before the end credits. In it Levitt and Barney are having a conversation. Barney asks Levitt to perform a task. As Leavitt starts to leave, Barney turns around and says something like, "if I'm not being too picayune ".
So glad I found you!!!🙂 Watching now..... as I do every night....🙏🙂 Possibly top 10 of all time TV shows representative of todays times and BULLSHIT.....🙂.... night all!! Love you all!! 🙂
Florence Halop (Golden's wife) played a great bad-tempered character in another episode. Her insults when it came to Harris and Yemana were really priceless.
This Episode is AWESOME. The guy exposing "The Trilateral Commission" is the prolific actor Jeffrey Tambor! And He knows the Truth of the New Worlds Order!
Many different police departments have said that of all the television shows that depict the police-that Barney Miller was by far the most realistic representation of what a typical day is for them
In the 70's. Now, we are all looked at as potential criminals and the police have no digression to do the right thing when given evil orders of "duty", like being told to stand down during a mass shooting, (which we never had in the Wild West), and protesters/agitators burning down peoples businesses. That is also called "progress". They have different bosses than they had in the 70's. We were still respected as individuals in the 70's for the most part.
How Spot - On can you get. Talking about Tri - Lateral Commission in 1981. David Rockefellar, thank God is DEAD. Great Episode. Jeffrey Tambor, was great when he was on the Gary Shandling show. Met Gary Shadling at Laker game 1996, great guy.
Barney Miller reruns at 11:30 nightly on the local ABC affiliate were a never miss event while in college (absent only in exam periods or when school work intervened). Guys would come running to the TV room when the theme song’s bass riff would play.
I knew I remembered Ned Glass from somewhre, and I spent this entire episode trying to work out why he was so familiar to me... of course, he was MSgt Pendleton in Bilko. "
@@DerekHundik It was at 22.10 when he said to Harris 'its all part of the deal,' which sounded exactly the same as when he said to Sgt Earnest G. Bilko in The Empty Store, "What's the whole thing worth" with the same tone in his voice. That is what clinched it for me. At first I thought he was Fender, but no.

Thanx so much for the upload! And especially not hiding it a tiny box with chipmunk voices. So great to see Barney and the gang again.
echo echo you welcome
Thank Sony for not blocking.
I MISS BARNEY MILLER!,
,
Yeah that was the funniest episode for sure. Harris..."it's hash, judging by how I feel". Barney..."Can you function"? Harris...."Sharp as a tack"!
"Hey. How 'bout us guys go down to the beach and shoot some clams?"
" you know you guys ain't human!? You guys are a couple of hotdogs that what you are!"
Hal Linden was so well-known, he got an episode on the Muppet Show and ended up against the talent of Gonzo the Great.(Dave Goelz). 4th of July vs. Christmas!
This was a great show. I remember recording it on bata to watch hen i came home from work.
seeing the "snow" and screen jumping reminds me of the old days. Nothing like analog. lol
Dietrich, Levitt, Harris...all gone. Way too soon. I just loved these guys.
I love the way this is a three-camera show but not performed in front of a live audience. It has that stagey quality but with the more polished and relaxed atmosphere of a single-camera production. Quite unique!
Rest In Paradise Ron
The Ron Carey Officer Levitt Door Spin Exit from Barney Miller. I have directed actors to work that smooth glide for years. It it perfection!
+Louie;s variety show see season 2 episode 11
+Louie;s variety show can you post the link. Thx.
Barney Miller 1975 Season 2 Episode 11 look this up.the comments start at about 042.could'nt get the url.but look up the provided title.
LOVE LOVE LOVED this show....Never wanted to miss an episode ....EVEN re-runs....!!! Thank YOU....!!! THOSE "TWIN TOWERS" get me alllllllllllllllll the time.......... : ( HOW They knew ALL of this ....back in the 70's....!!!!!!! THIS SHOULD BE ON Face Book !! ( anyone notice the collar on the jacket ...change ?? )
Levit..."...change gender..." Even back then.
I like Dietrich's attitude: He has a blase, detached, nonchalance matched with a keen, pithy wit.
Jeffery Tambor has always cracked me up . Look up episodes of ' The Ropers ' also
Barney Miller was always my favorite sitcom. Great writing, great actors, and classic comedic timing.
I seem to recall a different ending before the end credits. In it Levitt and Barney are having a conversation. Barney asks Levitt to perform a task. As Leavitt starts to leave, Barney turns around and says something like, "if I'm not being too picayune ".
I live in a small town named Picayune,ms,it means a little or a small matter it also was a Spanish coin.
I watched Barney Miller religiously, and I too remember that comment by Barney. But it could have been in a different episode.
It was in a different episode. It's the episode where Zatelli tells Barney that he's gay.
So glad I found you!!!🙂
Watching now..... as I do every night....🙏🙂
Possibly top 10 of all time TV shows representative of todays times and BULLSHIT.....🙂.... night all!!
Love you all!!
🙂
24 minutes and i watched every bit. what a great show
You sound like a rookie to the show lmao.......
I hadn't watched any episodes since it initially came out. It's great and at least this episode, is timeless.
Florence Halop (Golden's wife) played a great bad-tempered character in another episode. Her insults when it came to Harris and Yemana were really priceless.
Oppeldeldoc1 she was a brilliant character actor.
She was the bailiff on Night Court.
11:00 I think that was a genuine "you got me!" smile.
both Mr. Kleine and Wojo would guest star on Psych.
This Episode is AWESOME. The guy exposing "The Trilateral Commission" is the prolific actor Jeffrey Tambor! And He knows the Truth of the New Worlds Order!
Yes, Tambor is a fantastic Comedy/ Drama TV/ Movie actor!!
@@martinwhite3354 and he always plays the "crazy/insane" roles.....it was perfect having him play this particular part
@@raecilee6393 perfect?
How many people want a lawless society ? Deep down no one does .
Thanking God for our law enforcement officers
Thank-you for sharing these great stories.
Ned Glass played Doc who owned the Malt Shop in West Side Story. Getting money for Tony & Maria to get away. Great actor.
The husband and wife Scene was Priceless and harris reaction was so funny

It doesn't matter how he perceived he was treated, you don't break the code.
One of best shows ever!

I am impressed with the set, it looks so authentic!
James Earl Carter as in Jimmy?
DOUBLE YES!! Trilat.to the bone.
What about billy ? 😝
Billy Beer was the official beverage of the NWO.
I love the show. Good writing. Good cases. Great acting. I miss the actors.
David us dead but his legacy is very much alive
Barney Miller reruns at 11:30 nightly on the local ABC affiliate were a never miss event while in college (absent only in exam periods or when school work intervened). Guys would come running to the TV room when the theme song’s bass riff would play.
I knew I remembered Ned Glass from somewhre, and I spent this entire episode trying to work out why he was so familiar to me... of course, he was MSgt Pendleton in Bilko. "
granted
@@DerekHundik It was at 22.10 when he said to Harris 'its all part of the deal,' which sounded exactly the same as when he said to Sgt Earnest G. Bilko in The Empty Store, "What's the whole thing worth" with the same tone in his voice. That is what clinched it for me. At first I thought he was Fender, but no.
@@KebabMusicLtd phil silver show the greatest series of all.
