- Bowerman TC’s Gwen Jorgensen, the reigning Olympic triathlon champion, won the 2018 Stanford Invite 10K over Carrie Dimoff (also of Bowerman TC) and Missouri’s Karissa Schweizer, who made her debut in the 10K with a 32:00.55 run, the ninth-best performance in collegiate history.

The first lap was done in 77 seconds and Gwen's winning pace was 77 seconds for each 400m (3:12/km). Great pacing!!!

Her first 10K on the track maybe since 2009, but Olympic distance triathlons end in a 10K run which she’s been doing for many years...😉
You would expect the other girls to be better since they have been focused on running only. Im not American so I dont know the standards of the other women in the race.

old video, but hoping someone with track experience can explain: why did the pace drop so much after 11 mins in the video with the pacer working? Isn't the whole point of a pacer to maintain a certain pace and then step off?
Gwen has good form. A slight forward lean from the foot plant Her arm swings are in sync with her ground push off.

Like the two are mutually exclusive (pacing vs wearing spikes)??? Check out pics or video from the 10k at the last olympics. Both mens and womens field are all wearing spikes. They probably didn't wear spikes because they were treating this as a training run (not a championship race) and were minimizing impact.
All about the marathon, I suppose. Gwen's marathon cruising speed won't be too much slower than this, by the way she finished, the fact that she wasn't wearing spikes, and probably hardly tapered her training off for this.

I guess it's cause of the fact that this isn't quite a race that needed spikes. It wasn't really a 'major' race.
First two females have kind of long legs. Is that just me?
