    After seeing Succession end, do you still believe Connors Wedding is the greatest episode of TV?

    • @WilliamDuryea
      @WilliamDuryea  ปีที่แล้ว +40

      It's a tough call, because this season alone had three other legitimately great episodes ("America Decides," "Church and State," and the finale), but I think I would still give the edge to "Connor's Wedding" as the best episode of the series and of the decade so far.

    You are making well thought out, insightful videos, and you have a very pleasant, engaging style as well. Keep it up- it’s great work!
    I’m a lot older than you, so I’ve seen a lot more TV. It seems to me like TV began to shift in the 80s with shows like Hill Street Blues and St Elsewhere. These shows were much more character driven than plot driven; there were story arcs, but we leaned about the family life of the characters, got peeks into their inner lives. This really cracked open with ER, which became a national phenomenon- no one wanted to go out on Friday nights when ER was on. They had bottle episodes of sorts, where the focus was mostly on one patient or character, such as a man and his wife coming in to deliver their firstborn, and a bona fide live episode.
    I concur with you this kind of TV making birthed innovators who went on to expand the range of what we thought TV was or could be, which has lead to the creation of series that rival or eclipse what is being shown on the big screen these days. Succession has been a profoundly satisfying viewing experience, and I am grateful for the great talents who worked to craft a piece of art this engrossing and compelling.

      Thank you! I should go back and revisit ER. I watched a few episodes when it was originally airing, but I was too young to *get* it. I do remember all the hype around the live episode though!

      @WilliamDuryea I think you should bro! ER got me thru the pandemic. Super relevant and sharp to this day ✌🏿🙏🏾💯

    id love to see you do a video on the x files!! i love that series to death but haven’t seen much critical analysis on it, you have such a brilliant way of understanding and explaining art it would be cool to see you apply that to the x files :)

      Thank you! I would love to do a video on The X-Files at some point, because it was one of the series that was a formative experience for me when I was growing up.

    wonderful!!! would love to see a video about America Decides if you’re ever moved to make one, that episode blew me away (in a different and more typically succession-y way from this one, obviously)

      Thank you! I loved "America Decides" too. I will definitely do a video on it if I can think of something fresh to say.

    I can’t understand why people who enjoy high-end TV put Breaking Bad in the same league with HBO shows and Mad Men. Don’t get me wrong- Breaking Bad is watchable. It’s not great though. I’d rank it as comparable to, like, Sons Of Anarchy. Look at how one-dimensional Jesse’s friends are. In genuinely great shows, even minor characters have depth. That’s one of many things that separate them from the pack. Breaking Bad has way too many flaws to be considered part of television’s top tier. Even Jesse himself is a pretty weak character, frankly. I’m not saying this as a hater. I’d love to hear a rebuttal. I just find it thoroughly confusing when people behave like Breaking Bad is worthy of analyzing with a serious critical eye. If you have strong feelings about this (and based on the title of the video I’m commenting on, I suspect you do), maybe you’d consider recording your thoughts. In any case, I enjoy your content. Keep up the good work.

    Pausing at about 10 mins into the video to recommend inside no 9 if you haven't checked it out yet, a series of an anthology of bottle episodes that are dark and hilarious

      I recorded this video before "America Decides" aired, but, that said, while I think "America Decides" is absolutely brilliant, I would still give "Connor's Wedding" the edge.

    No, Better Call Saul had plenty of episodes better than Succession’s Connor’s Wedding.

    • @WilliamDuryea
      @WilliamDuryea  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I loved Better Call Saul, and if any series is in competition with Succession for the "Best of the Decade" title, it's BCS (and possibly Atlanta). The BCS finale in particular was absolute genius.
