  • Ukraine can now hit targets in Russia with American weapons. There are limitations on what Ukraine is allowed to do, but til will still create significant problems for the Russians. And it is a sign that the Kharkiv offensive can backfire for Russia.

In 2014/15 it was decided to NOT provide "lethal aid" to Ukraine because "it might cause escalation." Escalation happened in 2022 nonetheless. Western leaders need to get a grip on reality and stop fighting this war like it is a diplomatic issue; it is not a diplomatic issue. It is war. The only restrictions which should be placed on Ukraine is to obey the laws of war. There should be no other restrictions of any kind and Ukraine should be free to do as it needs to pursue victory.

The US thought Vietnam was (ala the USSR) trying to spread communism worldwide. It was a grave mistake. The Ukrainians are not going to stop fighting. Russia was likely expecting their invasion to go in a similar way as Afghanistan when when the Taliban rolled back, the people realized that they didn't have it in them to fight a group that was culturally and ethnically similar to them, and had more numbers. It is the main thing I don't understand with the Kharkiv and talk of maybe another Sumy attack, Ukraine have large forces tied up on borders where they were not able to be used efficiently.
I keep hearing that Russia has a manpower advantage along the active frontline because it has 4-500k against Ukraine's 3-400k, but that Russia has just around 500k+ in total for the war and Ukraine has 900k active soldiers.
Why allow Ukraine to use its larger force and on defensive actions as well.
I could maybe see an argument for Russia thinking it has a large enough material advantage to believe spreading out would force Ukraine to prioritise supplying some fronts over others, but even if that ended up working the result of that would be a siege of large cities that Russia just does not have the manpower to encircle or fight trough.
Extension of the frontline just isn't something Russia can get a long term advantage off, it allows Ukraine to utilize more men that were tied up and ineffective for the war effort.
Personally I don't see Russia as having a chance to win the war as I hold the 2 key beliefs that Ukraine will never give up and the West will never stop supplying Ukraine, the west will in my opinion just keep increasing capacity and eventually go far beyond what Russia has the capacity for.
But with that note out of the way, if I were Russia and I absolutely wanted to keep going and trying for victory this Kharkiv attack just does not make any sense with the resources dedicated for it.
It has to be just a propaganda move, throwing away resources and putting Russia in an even worse position just to show that it is still capable of taking territory.
Whether to show Ukraine/The West, internal population or both how Russia is still "winning", some commander wanted to show off how good he was or to show that it is taking the incursions into Belgorod seriously idk, but it definitely is not because it is a viable offensive.

bad strategy, bad tactics, bad logistics, bad morale (although strangely willing to constantly sacrifice their lives), bad equipment...
Every now and then they adjust a bit when one of the few halfway competent officers gets an inspiration (deep defensive lines, crazy dense mine belts, massive use of glide bombs, how the Ukrainians use more drones) but for the most part it's like just armed barbarians with no organization or plan running in the hope that the enemy will run out of ammunition before they run out of men.

The russians have amassed troops around the pocket. Ukraine 2 days ago started to evacuate the civilians from the town. That's several days after W. countries and 2 days after USA allowed weapons to be used inside russia. Despite this, the russians are planning something. It's also absurd to tell the Ukrainians they can't use them "inside rusha", not because of anything with the Ukrainians, but because of the relations we try to have with rusha. Because, as much as noone else recognises it, rusha illegally annexed Crimea in 2014 and four more Ukrainian regions in autumn 2022, so from a rushan perspective Western weapons have been used against and even fired from "inside rusha" for a very, very long time. For the rushans it doesn't matter if it's inside Kherson, Donetsk, Belgorod or Kursk. For them it's all inside rusha. So handcuffs off and let the Ukrainians fight the way they need to fight. And thanks to the UK.

      1) Àside from a few anti naval missiles, what long range weapons has Canada pròvided?
2)As measured against GDP per capita, Canada's contribution pales in comparison to most of our allies - especially those closest to the fighting. You can't control what's on the menu, when you ķnow you're not picking up most of the cheque.

I thought that Western leaders had learned in 1938 in Munich (and its aftermath) that appeasement of dictators never turns out well,

Are you kidding? The attention span of a "western leader" is a few days and in the case of Biden, I doubt he has learned anything for a decade (or knows what decade we are in).

Tak for det til begge. Selv bruger jeg sjældent engelske undertekster, så jeg så det ikke.
