I started ruby on rails a month ago and I was disappointed to many tutorials on the web, I cannot understand them. But this tutorial made me excited coding ruby. Thanks a lot, you gave newbie like me what I want to know, concise tutorial and direct to the point. I pray you continue to help us on our journey on Rails :)
hey brittany. just thought that i should tell you how useful this was. most of the other youtube Rails tutorials are really long, an hour, while you knew how to cut the fluff and identify what was most essential for a beautiful website. hope to see more videos from you!
Seriously thank you thank you!! I'm totally brand new to this and I had to quickly put together a site using bootstrap and I had the hardest time trying to figure it out. You totally cleared EVERYTHING up in the first 5 minutes. I love the clear concise way you explain things, THANK YOU!!
dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of weeks =)
This is a wonderful beginner tutorial. I like how you showed some of the issues that might come up and how to deal with them. Your explanations are clear and concise! Well done.
Here is Skylar from China. Just seeking for the quick intro to build up a website based on RoR. It's exactly what I want. Thank you a lot. Btw, I really like your accent!
after a year I leave studying rails now I starting over with your lessons now I finished in 3 days your tutorial of 12 min but i am happy because I did it right at the first time... : -@ i am back ruby on rails
Starting my classes this summer! Looks so fun! Already thought myself html and some css just to get a little head start. Already having fun making basic html pages! Very excited to learn more
Hey Brittany! This video was actually very very helpful, I'm starting to dive into Ruby and this is exactly what I needed, simple, efficient, spot on. I hope you keep making videos like this one, I'd love to see you work on something a little more elaborate and maybe something server-related(online).
Congratulations Brittany Arthur, your video is simple, has substantial concepts, his explanation and forceful and timely, very very good ... the internet should follow in his footsteps.
Hi, Thank you for your video. It is very informative. Can you make a second video about what the next step is to get everything connected and running online?
***** Thanks! That helped. However, now I am unsure how to get the heroku app to look similar to the local app. The photos are not uploaded and the Javascript seems to not be working properly. obscure-headland-1894.herokuapp.com/
***** I have to precompile the assets to get the css to work : bundle exec rake assets:precompile. However, the javascript still isn't working. When I click on the navigation it goes straight to it without doing that cool flip book thing when you click it locally. Also on the iphone it wont open or list the navigation when I click on it.

How do you tie the static html/css from bootstrap into the functionality that rails offers? Will you do a video on that with an example project? Danke!
Thanks for the video! Everything seems to be working fine on my site.. But the modals are not opening (when I click on them they just show me the larger image for less than 1 second..) any ideas? Great Tutorial!
hi! thank you:) Yes I have ran into a similar problem before but with a different project. I remember the solution had to do with having to remove a bootstrap file that was conflicting with a different bootstrap file. Or I found this online that might help: stackoverflow.com/questions/9884094/bootstrap-modal-disappear-immediately-after-showing
Wow, I'm new on this Rails and HTML stuff, and I have make a project this semester using all of this. I'm sure it's going to be a lot more complex than that but after your video at least I know what I'm getting into. Thanks!

Great video, very easy to follow. You should do more. Do you have any videos on php and what do you think of their frameworks, and which one would you recommend?
In your /app/views/layouts/application.html.erb line 5 and 6, change the first parameter application to default. I met the same problem, too for my situation, I don't know why, but it only happen on Windows. The parameter application works on web server.
Copying external libraries to /App/Assets is not a good practice. There is a separate folder dedicated for external libraries called Vendors and you should have placed those files there. And you also don't need to stop the server when you wanna change styles or html :)

Hey Brittany, thanks for the great tutorial, can you share me the code that is uses to search the background images since the video is bit blur + any place where i can lean these command?
hey, if you go on sublime and go to file, open... then if you open the folder instead of individual files you can have the folders display on the left side. Also you could do it from terminal depending on how your environment is set up with a simple "sublime " or any variation of that.

Hey one quick question! In your video everything was complete and working except the nav-bar is not the same as in the preview? Does this mean there is a problem with the Jquery?
I'm having an issue with font-awesome... I followed the steps in the video but I can only see square icons. I have also tried installing the gem font-awesome-rails (4.3.0.0) but still no luck. I'm running rails 4.1.7. Would you have any suggestions to help me out? Great tutorial by the way!

Awesome video Brit! This looks so much smoother on a mac im running on a windows so there is no side bar on my sublime text2 so i gotta manually go to the folders :( lemme know if there is any quick fix to this :p or is this the reason everyone codes on a mac?

So I built all the front-end things before hand(html, css, javascript) I did all your first steps but then when i transferred my welcome code to the app folder, the css was not working 100% and there was some context in odd places, I checked the HTML code and CSS, I also ran it alone on a python server and it all good alone but when I paste it into the Ruby Project Folder it acts weird. I don't know, any suggestions?
Lenny Perez o.0? Why would you post anything Ruby on a Python server?(two different languages) Also, everything in Rails is compiled with Sass, so this might be a problem. You should really check out MVC to understand what is going on in your application. What it sounds like is your controller is causing the problem.

Alright so it's either I'm getting that as an error true %> or it just doesn't load the template or well, any changes to the html (titles and such) I've chekced a million times I just can't put my finger on that
Psychopath McRapeface #1 You need to learn how to solve the issue without installing Node.js because when you upload it to the server, this will not likely be a way to solve it. Simply changing it to this true %> Will solve your problem. #2 Sometimes the number one problem with RoR is rake migrate, so check that as a secondary problem because when you have a database you will need to rake db::migrate whenever you have an update, even locally.
Brittany Arthur Awesome thanks. So once I have everything setup locally, how do I upload this to an actual host? Also, managing posts would be straight through html? Doesn't sound very efficient. This was a fun exercise nonetheless. Thanks again.
Ohh I forgot to ask you, how did you learn ROR? I can see you are really good at it and I would like to follow your steps if you don't mind me doing so.... 😊
hi, I went to a "rails bridge" workshops in SF. and then I used ROR at a hackathon. working with my friends at the hackathon on our ROR site was what helped me solidify what I learned at rails bridge. I am still a beginner at this and am not learning more about it anymore.
Nice! short and clear. BUT its only LOCAL! can somebody help me by telling me how to put this website in the net? _ I mean , besides the obvious ways of doing it by finding Web host (for free of for a few $) and uploading my page.... I followed the video to the letter. I even went through and re-did the project numerous times. My website takes forever to load because of the abundance of routing errors.

Psychopath McRapeface #1 You need to learn how to solve the issue without installing Node.js because when you upload it to the server, this will not likely be a way to solve it.
Simply changing it to this
true %>
Will solve your problem.
#2 Sometimes the number one problem with RoR is rake migrate, so check that as a secondary problem because when you have a database you will need to rake db::migrate whenever you have an update, even locally.
what are you opening myproject in at 30 seconds?
egodrunk sublime text
Brittany Arthur Awesome thanks. So once I have everything setup locally, how do I upload this to an actual host? Also, managing posts would be straight through html? Doesn't sound very efficient. This was a fun exercise nonetheless. Thanks again.
Ohh I forgot to ask you, how did you learn ROR? I can see you are really good at it and I would like to follow your steps if you don't mind me doing so.... 😊
www.codecademy.com is a good site to learn programming languages, you can learn ruby on rails and ruby on the site.
hi, I went to a "rails bridge" workshops in SF. and then I used ROR at a hackathon. working with my friends at the hackathon on our ROR site was what helped me solidify what I learned at rails bridge. I am still a beginner at this and am not learning more about it anymore.
wow, thank you for that!! I am implementing a bit of angular along with ROR and the results are amazing! anyhow.. Thank you again for the comment!
Nice! short and clear. BUT its only LOCAL!
