      Even though I would say it is the best job I’ve ever had, making TH-cam videos is a full-time job. Besides spending several hours per day editing videos I also spend a lot of money operating the channel
      Content creators are paid when ads play in their videos.
      I don’t place the ads at certain times in the video And I don’t choose what ads play. That is done automatically by TH-cam.
      Personally I haven’t seen an ad on a TH-cam video in several years. I pay something like six dollars a month for premium that removes all ads and lets me listen to videos without the screen on
      Thanks for watching

    " Knowledge Empowers " I think what your doing is helping alot of us weekend do it yourselfers go in the right direction when loading and transporting material , Thanks for that !
    I would like to have seen a bit more on how you layered in the rock for good compaction..

      Thanks for the kind words.
      I didn’t talk much about how I did the rock because I didn’t do a particularly thorough job with this.
      I had too much large stone and not enough crushed stone on top. I also didn’t put the fabric under

    Great info about weights. It's a tough lesson digging out an overloaded dump because it won't lift the load. Keep up the great videos

    Exactly what you said. Wet dirt will be a lot heavier than dried dirt.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir, I haven’t been to the scales to do a real world comparison but google search is telling me that the wet dirt would weigh twice as much as dry and be about the same weight as the crushed lime stone.
      Obviously it’s more complex than that because Clay might be heavier than shale Which is heavier than topsoil and so on
      I want to have ballpark numbers though to try to avoid overloading the trailer

    That is good info for you to know...I would probably do the same thing. You dont need more rock though, you just need more $$ to have someone come and pave it all!!!..though you do have a decent base you could splash concrete all over it!!! Looking forward to some 30min trenching/whatever else vids!!!!

      I will have a trenching video out Tomorrow morning although it’s a short one.
      I’m with you on the long videos. Personally I like to turn them on and listen to them while I’m doing other things

    I dig your methods as they are what I have used for years measuring things. I would be interested in your findings on how much compaction rock it takes to make a firm driveway on dry dirt vs on wet dirt.

    Definitely a smart thing to be aware of. It is super easy to overload a dump trailer with stone or dirt, volume is not nearly as precise as a scale weight. You definitely don't want to be on the side of the road with a load on and busted trailer axles. And you have the right idea of bringing the stone in with a tri axle instead. For me if I have to get more than a couple trips with my dump trailer it will be more time consuming and costly than paying for a tri axle to bring it. And I also have a 14k gvw dump trailer as well. But it is only safe to haul 5 ton at a trip, a tri axle will do 3X that and still be legal.
    Weight ratings are nothing to play around with. Sure, "it'll haul more." But you know how expensive a new dump trailer is? Or how much new axles cost? Or how much the accident that you could cause on the road could cost? Definitely a good idea to do the homework on your numbers for weight. Smart video.

      And what some people don't realize is weight ratings are for an EVENLY DISTRIBUTED load. That always needs to be considered too. Especially when going over uneven terrain and in making turns. Get a 14k gross weight trailer and then say 75% of the weight ends up on one axle... Yeah, that's another reason I don't like running heavy.

      @RockhillfarmYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true. I also use the WeighSafe hitches to tell how much tongue weight I have. Just another point of reference

    @threepointservices-tractor4832 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am not trying to be critical of your methods, just a question came to mind. How did you determine the weight of the initial 5 tons, you used for the calculations. Vendors often use the volume of their bucket, when loading trucks and trailers. Did you actually hit the scale before, and after?
