20 Years ago. Back then I could only read his words. He said and it came to me in words "put down your books and practice". Now the books are a reference, a teacher guiding me. I am so grateful I read his books. I never met him in the flesh yet he walks with me often. Kop khun maa krup Ajahn Chah.x

It is true that some temples in Buddhist countries are just showing off their wealth. But that is not the kind of Buddhism that Ajahn Chah was practising. In his forest monastery everything was very simple, monks were doing all the work themselves, nobody was allowed to keep money, it was really ascetic. Such monasteries still exist, one just has to separate the good from the bad.

Ajahn Chah continues to inspire the Dhamma in our hearts even today. Not only his words, but even his relaxed and easy manner, his sense of humour, etc, all radiate Dhamma.

SUCH an amazing teacher and I've always felt very priveleged to have been able to see a clip of Ajahn Chah when he was alive.
Many thanks Dhammatube for what is my fave clip on TH-cam...so far! I wish everyone could see this and learn from it...he is such an inspiration. Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu!

The essence of the Buddha's teaching can not be reached by just reading and/or just brain understanding; it can only be reached by just practising.

I tried to smile and be happy but one day i realized that with all my effort i was still not happy. So i stopped, let it go, let it be, soon I realized again that I was free from trying to control things. I smiled once again but this time with the happiness of peace. "Every problem has a solution and when there is no solution it's no longer a problem." - Inspired by Ajahn Brahm Teaching

You wont someday just realize it by magic, It would be a miracle, we are born wired to desire, have aversion and suffer. It wont go away without enough study and practice like any Buddha did.

The Buddhist thero with great discipline, who walks right in the middle of the path shown by the Great Buddha, is worshiped by all, respected and cared by all....
It's amazing to see such human being with supernatural kindness and extreme self discipline exist, even this era of the world...
Here is my worship towards their hollyness..
    Sadhu sadhu.....!

a year or so ago, after practicing meditation on my own i was hooked on the idea of quitting smoking tobacco and marijuana, i even fasted before i was very skillful in my practice haha, but i let go of the want to quit smoking to work on letting go of negative thought, thoughts of hate, desire to get somewhere, thoughts of lust, not forcefully, letting go moment by moment in the gift of the forever now, and now my last few attachments are no longer problems and shall be dismissed when they are.

I never said I had problems with Buddhism. I admire Buddhism greatly, they did what many religions stopped doing. They strove to see how far the mind could go, they pushed their mind to the limits and achieved outstanding insights on life and reality. But most religions today have not let go of that personal, sentient being idea of the supernatural Sky God. I think this is harmful to one's mind and practice which is why I originally was asking that person why they attach to it still.

Ajahn Chah is emobodiement of Peace
for me, its all about implementing 8 noble path , so that we can attain "no self" and hence Peace
the way i am trying is
    1) see such videos
    2) Meditate and keep Buddha pictures everywhere..
    3) using a mobile app called "BuDhamma" to practice 8 noble path
    Peace to All

Wishing to be happy is perfectly fine. Every being is striving towards that wish. I practice Vipassana meditation which is where you simply look at whatever arises. In your meditation you can notice that you desire happiness. You don't need to congratulate yourself or condemn yourself. Don't add anything and don't subtract anything. Simply be with this feeling of desire and it will reveal a lot of things to you. Happy meditation :)

Everyone has their own unique path to walk. It's easy to stand on the outside and say "just do this" or "don't believe that". Let them find their way in their own time. Judging someone's beliefs as "empty" may offend them. It also weakens one's own practice of equanimity.

Teachings for the worldly man. There is strife until emancipation. The worldly man wants to hear that he does not need to work hard for the goal bc there is not goal just let it go. There is nothing more difficult than the path to freedom worldly one.

Its not that difficult. When desire arises, you just note it without a judgement. (Desire, desire) and go back to watching your breath. Determined but gentle. Desire will fade as all the rest of our emotions, its impermanent, and all the more so if you don't "fuel or feed" it by dwelling.

@alfulani5 the head is like unhappiness and the tail is like happiness. When you grab the snake by the head, it will bit you suddenly. But if you grab the tail, the head will turn to bite you anyway. When you love someone or things so much, you are clinging to and don't want to lose them, but undesired situations always happen to anyone which create suffering. Buddha saw these suffering in everyone's lives and searched for the medicine to cure them.

The difference in southern Buddhism and mahayana or advaita seems to be the later sees transcendent awareness as the "true self " a omnipresent expanse that transcends death.

The comment above was intended to be a reply to quisqueyatv to his question "ok interesting, but where is the proof that those realms exist scientifically?? or you just base it on blind beliefs?? " I'd also like to add that perhaps we can never prove in words that there is actually "Enlightenment". There are claims that people have reached nirvana, but one can never know unless one experiences it oneself. Personally, I've put effort into embodying the dhamma and it's worked so far.

@Witaya4you What one needs to "believe" or have faith in... is Ajah Chan's experience until one has a direct experience of the Truth of what he is saying. t's a long road. One needs faith /belief to travel any path. That does not mean one shouldn't question and test what is being told.

Dear Buddhists, I got an initiation in a cult and it is really painful. Even if I am not a member anymore. Could someone recommend me, what to do? I could become homeless soon, I can not control my body anymore. I am afraid that it could take control of me and I could give my body fully away. I think they can do whatever they want with me. What should I do?

But yes, they might be mixed with cultural aspects, which are founded on beliefs. But if you study the evolution of science, you will notice that it is also full of beliefs and creeds, but since it has a systematic way of processing information, it eventually reaches truth. In my humble opinion and experience with buddhism, it's quite the same, there is a lot of cultural structures, but they are founded on a systematic meditative practice, and truth can be found that way.
