- Yo-Yo's (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) super-speed might be the team's only hope to fix the time drive before it jumps them into oblivion. But she's lost the power to control it, and must turn to an unlikely ally for help: Jiaying (guest star Dichen Lachman). From 'After, Before,' season 7, episode 8 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The flaw in this scene is how they didnt question Yoyo's prosthetic that looks like a real hand. In this timeline, proper prosthetic development was minimal
Agreed, The technology in 1983 couldn't even come close to that. Hell we don't even have that today. That prosthetic would be mind blowing in 2020 let alone 1983.
They're inhumans..humans that inherited super powers from alien genetics..advance technology is not gonna surprise them..

I think a logical explanation for this is twofold. As other people are saying,the inhumans at afterlife have probably seen stranger things. Secondly, the chronicoms said that any tech they left behind would hasten the development of shield, and I’m thinking by extension that would apply to other technology too in this timeline.
Having accepted that she's an Imhuman, the Inhumans in the comics had far more advanced technology than humans in their main enclave (they had a technological civilization from their inception (as proto-humans genetically engineered by the Kree as part of an attempt to jump start stagnated Kree evolution by unlocking the human potential to develop superpowers) . . . and that was 250,000 years ago.
We don't know for sure from the series to what degree the smaller scattered enclaves shared in that advanced technology, but if it was even a small degree, a realistic prosthetic arm isn't going to impress or surprise them *if an Inhuman has it* though they'd know standard human tech wasn't up to it.
I love this scene. And the fact that we ALL forgot that Yoyo has no arms but also, that the diviner has to glow when it touches an inhuman. this was genius lol

You still might. The chronochans have clearly nerfed the timeline with taking Afterlife in 1983, so maybe Jiaying never gets captured and experimented on. So there's still the possibility of Daisy meeting her mom without her being evil

Yeah. But since Daisy hasn't been born yet. She has to becareful. Or she could create herself out of existence like Nora Allen did in the flash season 5. If Daisy isn't conceived and born when she's supposed to be. Daisy might disappear out of existence. She may want to see her mother. But i don't think her team would like the idea. Mack practically told her she has to think before doings anything because unlike him when he saw his parents. He was already born. But Daisy won't be born for another 5 years and if their not careful. She may never be born. Than Daisy would cease to exist.

To a Chinese, May’s Mandarin shows that she obviously spoke the language growing up but may be a little out of touch, Jiaying’s is partly unintelligible. But again, the actress does not speak it so we shouldn’t be too hard on her.
@@sandhanitizer9113 Ming-na was born in Macao but her family speaks Mandarin. Her mom is from Suzhou. Dichen did a great job here.
In her interview with PopCandies TV, Dichen Lachman stated that she grew up speaking three languages namely English, Tibetan, and Nepalese but now she speaks only English but does understand Nepali and Tibetan as well.
considering that AND the fact that when not performing she has an Australian accent she did DAMN good speaking both a different language and a language she knows in a different dialect
May's chinese this season is somehow more pleasant to listen too than the one in season 3, just saying. It's my opinion
Agent May To be honest, her Mandarin when she’s speaking it spontaneously in interviews sounds the most natural. I think it’s all the rehearsing when she’s acting that makes it sound weird sometimes.
Liana Z that’s because she knows how to speak Chinese, but to act in the language takes a different set of skills that she hasn’t really worked on much (understandably)

Dichen Lachman has the best poker face! During the WizardWorld Agents of Shield panel, she didn't even flinch when they jokingly talked about cameos in Season 7!
I loved this episode, but I was really hoping for a mother-daughter reunion. By the way, maybe Dichen really does have some sort of powers, seems like she hasn't aged one bit since season 2.
We might see Jiaying again because May gave her the time watch and it looks like Daisy will need her help if she is going to deal with her sister

As someone who grew up in China for 6 years, finally hearing someone speak Mandarin properly feels relieving. Which shouldn't be a surprise since both May and Ming-Na Wen are Chinese.

I'm so glad that we finally have a returning character for this final season. Don't get me wrong, i know that we have a Koenig, the Malicks, and Daniel Sousa for the first couple episodes, but throughout the season so far i haven't been feeling any nostalgia at all. Like i feel like the show hasn't really been using the time travel aspect in a nostalgia fashion; like we keep getting episodes that focuses on the different decades of our history. As much as i enjoyed those episodes, i really just wanted to see returning characters who we haven't seen in a while.
Completely agree, seeing the Afterlife sets, gave me season 2 vibes.
I have a feeling the next couple of episodes are going to ramp up the nostalgia factor as we get closer and closer to the team's main timeline. I fully expect a Ward, Tripp, Davis, Talbot, etc. cameos in these last couple of episodes.

@@garyhall2770 No, they are not the same actors. Chan Ho Yin "Scorch" was played by Louis Ozawa Changchien, while Li was played by Byron Mann (who played Ryu alongside Ming-Na Wen's Chun Li in the 80's movie Street Fighter).

Yes, Whitehall got his hands on her in 1989 and took everything he could from her, leaving very little of her for her Husband, Calvin Zabo, Daisy's father, to recover. Her organs, her DNA, quite possibly other body parts? All "sampled". Calvin sacrificed an entire village in China so Jiaying's powers could bring her back from the very edge of death-but she was never the same. We all know where that led her to...

@@Mtab2260 Nope. We don't know how exactly old Daisy was when Whitehall captired Jiaying. We know that Daisy was born on July 2nd 1988 and that Jiaying was captured in 1989, we don't know at what month. So Daisy had back then something between 6 and 18 months.
The diviner doesn't seem all that scary now a days. And it's ironic that May and Daisy's mother are both Chinese.

That have even more sense if you will rewatch opening scene from episode 2x09. In that nightmare scene there was a lot of rnods between Cal/Jiaying and Coulson/May as Daisy's parents.

I miss the way things use to be. I like what they are doing with Yoyo. She deserves the screen time and focus she's getting this season. But do they have to make most of her screen time with May?
I want Daisy to be going on missions with May. Why is it always Elena? I understand not going to afterlife with May and Elena. Elena needed help. May been there before. So she knows the place and Daisy was hurt barely hanging onto life. But she wasn't hurt the whole time. So can they please put some more focus on May and Daisy's relationship? Like they did in the past. Daisy looks better teaming up with May than Elena does. At leas have Daisy joined them. I want some more mother daughter moments between May and Daisy before the show ends and not just in one episode.
What more ironic is that they're both actually Chinese in real life or at least part chinese

I was happy that they at least showed that they are able to write stories with returning characters. Jiaying is played really well by the actress. Her voice is beautiful. The problem is again once more they build up this Malick guy for nothing. He is so meaningless, the actor is so weak, the character Malick is not even a freak of the week, he is less. He will only be the villain for so few moments that every moment with him ruins the whole season, because he is unworthy. Clearly, when you make a time travel story, you have to come up with things. But not that. Malick is embarrasing.
Yeah the actor isn't very good. But he's better than the Chronicoms (well, the Chronicom now, lol), they've always been lame (apart from enoch) and e7 made them a non-threat (they were so bad at planning that their whole species counted on the fact that one tiny robot didn't fall over or get kicked over, over hundreds of miles.
Tbh they don't need a villain now. the changes to history pose enough of a threat , also the fact that villains like hive or izel didn't die and potentially won
Josh maybe the final battle that shield has isn't with the chronicoms, but it's with Nathaniel and every other villain they've ever faced because of the changed history, and then fury pulls up with shield reinforcements through a monolith or something (because they may not be destroyed in the new timeline)
@@Josh-oj9mm I agree. They do not need a villain now. Episode 8 showed once more how interesting a story about the struggle with the own problems can be told. I often think that good villains have to be built much longer, maybe even over more than just one season. Sometimes they even come from inside, like Ward did, or their own story is told, like Raina's, and then only after that they collide (I did never really see Raina as a villain, I just wanted to mention her). Inventing new problems in such a short season is not the way I like. Let's see were they take us. We surely have many wishes. They cannot fulfil everything.

Malick stole Daisy's power. It has never happened before. Daisy could be killed easily, after that. He want to steal more Inhuman's strength.. and give it to his team members. As I can see, it's hazardous and also abhorrent. Inhumans are in danger. They don't born with a gift, they are just playing a thief group. It's unfair. Yo-Yo, Daisy against Malick, Cora, the teleporter guy.. Maybe this time Elena will be the biggest hero.

The Inhuman Royal Family from the Inhumans television series back in 2017 wouldn't be in season 7 of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. because some of them were still children and some of them were not born yet in 1983 and most of the Inhumans on Earth in 1983 doesn't know about the existence of Attilan.

Because that's what made her want to kill all of Hydra and Shield and go cray cray or at least that's what Daisy's father told her. Budget. They can’t afford authentic amazing sets like Marvel movies. So it has to be darker so you don’t notice all the flaws or how cheap everything looks.
