Awful show. Maybe instead of focusing on intersectionality and gender politics, focus on characters and story telling next time.

I must have missed the part where the show focused on gender politics . . . Oh, wait, that never happened. If you're referring to Galadriel being able to fight, that's actually something Tolkien wrote about, and you just don't know his writing as well as this show does. 🙄

@@pilotg2075 actually you're kind of right. Gender politics was probably the least offensive issue with the show. It's in there don't get me wrong. The actors all paradaded that fact in every single interview and ad for this show so don't pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about. However it was the hamfisted overall political agenda, fused with over the top in your face allegory which ruined this show. Tolkien hated allegory. He thought it was the worst way to tell a story. He was right. Also are you going to sit there and pretend like this Galadriel in thos show even resembles the actual character from the lore? This Galadrial was the worst part of the show. She's an evil Karen with almost no redeeming qualities.

@@Raider8784 The political and social promotion was most likely enforced on the actors by the showrunners, Amazon CEO, etc. Not on all of course, some actors themselves seem to bring it up on their own, but overall from all the interviews I've seen with them just before the release of ep. 1 or since, they've been strictly talking about the characters, their work, the script and so on.
The problem of the show isn't the diversity of the cast. That's highly irrelevant compared to the actual issues such as the writing, the pacing, the directing, maybe some of the acting (always difficult to tell because it depends on the script and the instructions the actors are given). Even if you see it as a Tolkien fanfiction or just a generic fantasy, it has obvious issues.
Now when it comes to being a Tolkien adaptation, even though it deviates from the source material so much, I can kinda see what they're going for. I think it would've worked much better if all other issues weren't there. Also, the Tolkien Estate are at least as much to blame, not only for refusing to allow usage of the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, etc., but that they didn't make sure to keep an eye on the production and control its direction. It's like they've become the biggest sellous - taking their 250 million dollars and assigning Simon Tolkien (Tolkien's grandson), who's notorious for his dislike of the books and is probably quite happy with what is happening right now.
I think they can still salvage it with season 2 if they replace the writers and maybe the director (she doesn't seem experienced for this kind of show and story).
