Honestly I think it's my favorite part of the song. The buildup, tension, and suspense is almost asking: are you still doing ok in the fight? Are you panicking yet? Or are you about to sweep like the monster trainer you are?
Dawn and Lucas are holding Repeat Balls. They are also the only player characters of any game prior to Gen 7 to hold a ball that is not a regular pokéball, if I'm not mistaken. It actually makes, sense. In the games, the are supposed to be the Prof's assistants. Lab work requiring a lot of study subjects, it would make sense that they would need to catch several pokémon of the same species, which the Repeat Ball does more easily.
Its actually because those are the PLATINUM artworks. Platinum is a repetition/extension of Diamond & Pearl.Thats why they gave the protagonists repeat balls.

Never really realized just how much the *bdbdbdbdbdbeep* of the pokeballs queuing, the *bdumf - screech* of your enemy's and your primary pokemon really drove the intro there. It's so much more tense in-game it's crazy
So intense and its just a trainer vs trainer battle. GBA and DS definitely had the best music of the series. They just don't' capture the feel as well on the 3DS like they did here music wise. I mean this is just a regular battle and you can feel it with the bass here as it builds up all the while.
I agree, when I first played Platinum, after defeating the trainer, I had a feeling that I had the biggest and best battle of all haha XD 4Gen was a big milestone in the history of the Pokemon franchise, they prove it right away the songs (the theme of the HeartGold and SoulSilver games are to prove too).
i think thats mainly because the sinnoh games are purely designed with buildup in mind, everything that happens is all just a build up, you start as innocent young kids with nothing in mind but fun, while gradually learning, that the world isnt as bright as it seems, just to end up as the hero who saves the world from mayhem, ending up in the final fight against cynthia. every theme along the way is more intense than the last one, with the exception of the calm and soothing themes, serving as a break in between to further focus on story development
I strongly believed the DS has one of the strongest soundfonts of any handheld console. It was *just* in that perfect level of power where instruments are recognizeable, but have a very distinct level of quality and complexity to them. I don't have the technical knowledge to explain it, but DS instruments sound different than non-DS instruments. Also of note was the DS speakers' surprisingly weak bass performance. I don't mean that bassy tones sound bad, but they play a lot softer from a DS's speakers, which imo contributes to the unique sound a fair bit (in essence, the music becomes "unbalanced", but because it's so uniform, it feels like an aesthetic more than a limitation, like really catchy 8-bit music losing its punch with too much added complexity).
That, or you really want to capture this Pokémon and your sweating over whether you can squeeze out one more attack before the poke ball. I know that got me many times
I put the DS sounds on once I finished the game. xD Some of the remastered songs are really good like the gym leader music and route music but I prefer the original sounds more.
@@SwazzStudios It's hard to describe. But it was some kind of "inventive" sound by Junichi Masuda.
