Wow, what a wonderful review, I loved how you played along, and explaining the ending accompanied with your beautiful play, made me teary eyed. You have no idea how you were, well, spot on, to what Joost is trying to tell us. I hope Joost gets to see this reaction video. I loved how your students asked you to please watch the music video of Europapa. I'm Dutch and mega proud of Joost. Attending Eurovision was in fact his promise to his parents, when he was a kid he promised them he would, they passed away when he was 12 and 13 years old. This is in fact for him a moving on moment. Yesterday he sang it live in Amsterdam and with the last 2 lines you could hear he got emotional and the tears in his voice. He totally stole my heart. I'm old enough to be his mother, and every time I hear the last few lines I want to give him a hug. ❤🧡💙
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! 🙌🫶 I didn't know before reading these comments that he lost both parents. Very touching, and I'm glad that Joost has transfered his pain into an art!
As a Dutch guy I can say that the underlaying messages in the lyrics and visuals are very deep. It's dark, it's bright, it's trying to move on from your past. Joost lost both his parents when he was a kid. His father taught him that borders are human made, and can be broken by humans. Also, as a kid, he watched the songfestival with his family a lot, and it was his dream to once perform in them. Though, now that he made it to ESC, his parents are not with him to witness his succes of breaking borders. Nothing offered to him can fill that void of losing your parents at a young age, it shows in the song. He is trying to move on in life. Something like this at least... Maybe I smoked weed and am making this up. Whatever. Have a nice evening!
Wow. You are the only one who got both the music and the meaning in one listen. Especially the moving on and conquering yourself. Your playing, analysis and positive character are a joy to watch. Your students are very lucky to have you as a teacher ♥️♥️

FL Studio Piano Roll FTW!! Nice touch! I'm so glad you translated what you said because what you perceived is nearly spot on. And a very keen ear to the music. Did you jumped from the Europapa theme to An English Man in NY? Now I can't unhear it anymore.
Joost has another hitsong from a couple of years ago - called 'Friesenjung' - which is totally based upon the 'Englishman in NY'-melody. So not a coincidence. :)
Very Nice. Joost Klein lost his parents at the age of thirteen and in this song he explaines the rollercoaster he was in. The ending is the end of his rollercoaster because now he goes to the Eurovisie end sees this as a new beginning.
12 points to Joost and you my friend , great review and spread your sound around the world 🎉🎉🎉 just like Joost said there is no border… Work hard - Rave hard

Wow! If you realy did go into this without any information before, your analyses is amazing! Also, I am amazed how musical talented you are! You breathe music. I think you inspire your students a lot.
So glad you pointed out that the last notes are english men in New York only heard it when you played it, one of his biggest hits is a song made with a remix of English men in new york called Friesenjung. So I guesse that makes it full circle for him
He loved to watch Eurovision festival on the TV with his father and as a 12 year old kid he said to his parents: one day I am going to sing there!! And now it is going to happen. What a joy for us and for his parents on the "other side."
That was awesome! I love how you did this review. And what you understood without knowing the backstory. I do believe it's a piece of art. I love how your pupils recommended this song to you. You must be an amazing musik teacher! I wish you a great career and an amazing life. 🤗
I am Dutch, so I understand the song and know the backstory. I find it very impressing that you also understand the vibe of the song while not speaking the languague. Also very remarkable is that you play Englishman in New York. Joost had a big hit in Germany with the song Friesenjung, which includes a sample of Englishman in New York.
The song is actually a bit sad. As others already stated, he lost his parents at a very young age. There are a lot of double meanings / connections to his parents and surely i am missing something but ill try to name some: Like the song is called "euro-papa" because papa is dad in dutch. He is singing that he goes to other places but he feels lonely. He lost everything except time. he is struggeling He is giving people money but nobody is helping him. He went to mental healthcare but they could not help him. He is talking about the song Papaoutai from stromae. Papa outai means "dad is here" and the phrase Où t'es? Papa où t'es? means Where are you? Dad where are you? check out the lyrics of that song too :) He is also mentioning "i wont stop until they say, yes he does that very well" because he is seeking pride from his parents. The ending is pretty clear but i think he is talking to his dad and his younger him and he tells his dad that he listend to him. Also the burning picture and burning house stands for him closing that chapter and he wants to move on and dont want to feel the pain anymore. while he was in therapy they used burning stuff to let go the old
Spot on. 1st verse is him running away from the pain - it doesn't help. 2nd verse is him asking for help, 3rd part is dealing with it with anger. Doesn't work. Last part is him standing in a room with his younger and his older self. Burning the past and moving on. It helps.
Perhaps all has been said, but, yes dad I listened to you, indeed means that he fulfilled a promise. The Klein family always watched the ESC together and apparently Joost once promised his father to let his possibilities run free by not feeling any limitations (borders) and take part in the ESC one day. That's why Joost has been lobbying for years to make him a candidate and sing here. And yes, he succeeded
The hardcore music at the end is real Gabber music, it was created in Rotterdam in the 90's. Never before someone used this kind of music before for the Eurovision. They say...
Yeah, I know it is 90s, since many other countries got influenced by that style in those times. However, I thought it was jumpstyle, but apparently it's hardstyle (gabber). Thanks for info 🙌
Best reaction ever. I cant believe you got the meaning behind the song in one listen, people usually assume that this song is just a joke or about travelling or something to do with politics, but it's not.
